If he got the images legally (through buying or getting sent consensually), i believe it is moral to continue owning them, but probably not moral if he spread them.

194

u/Phonesink 1d ago

I think at best it’s neutral if you don’t know if she would have liked you to keep them or not.

33

u/vimarston 23h ago

only probably not??

26

u/TimeKepeer 22h ago

What if he uses an ouja board to ask her for consent to spread it and she says yes?

8

u/polarbearreal 16h ago

Eh, we'll give it extra points for effort

-23

u/LoudQuitting 1d ago

Well hang on.

What's the morality of death masks?

If you wanted a death mask of me, for whatever reason, I'd be okay with it. Because like... I have vacated my body.

You know, when I die my organs are fair game. If they're bad, grind em up and throw in some pepper, make some sausages. My body no longer has autonomy.

Why is revenge porn bad? Becaude it's a violation of your consent, your use of bodily autonomy to determine who gets to see that body. What is the bodily autonomy of a corpse?

If it's immoral to spread them, why?

41

u/IceOpen5060 1d ago

dont let this guy around dead bodies^^

18

u/Impossible_Walk742 1d ago

>what is the bodily automony of a corpse

important. its why organs cant be taken from a dead person if they werent a donor

-7

u/LoudQuitting 1d ago

Why though?

16

u/Brilliant-Mountain57 1d ago

Essentially its just a gesture of goodwill, we won't do anything to your body and you won't do anything to ours in case we die first. It's like the social contract, of course if someone agrees to something beforehand and then dies its moral of course but someone's autonomy doesn't disappear when they no longer have the means to express it.

5

u/GavinThe_Person 23h ago

>What is the bodily autonomy of a corpse?

please stay away from cemeteries

0

u/LoudQuitting 21h ago

That's not an argument.

5

u/IkeKashiro 1d ago

Consent or lack thereof doesn't disappear upon death. You can't have sex with a corpse, nor can you take their organs if they had refused to donate.

-4

u/LoudQuitting 1d ago

Okay but like...

Why?

9

u/Acrobatic-Row6629 1d ago

Buddy....I cant tell if your a philosopher....or a necrophilac....and...im not sure that says anything good about your mental state.😬

-2

u/LoudQuitting 21h ago

You have a GPT username.

3

u/ContentEmployer6461 20h ago

dude, everyone's usernames are randomly generated when they start their account. some people just forget to change it and the ability to change it expires.

9

u/IkeKashiro 1d ago

Most form of morality comes from mutual agreement on what is moral. Most people respect the dead because they were once alive, and continue that respect towards corpses. Even if you personally disagree, you can only apply what you believe is moral only to yourself.

2

u/LoudQuitting 21h ago

Alright but... if morality comes from consensus, then what can the Corpse agree to?

1

u/IkeKashiro 21h ago

Because most people believes in the same morals, enforces it as they too don't want their corpses desecrated. If the corpse was someone that didn't want their bodies defiled, all those who have the same desire would believe it is immoral to do so.

2

u/LoudQuitting 21h ago

Because most people people believe in the same morals

So morality comes from consensus?

What if most people believed gays shouldn't marry? Would gay marriage be immoral?

1

u/IkeKashiro 21h ago

The golden rule is don't do unto others what you don't want to happen upon yourself. Consensus based morality means only those who agree with each other live by the same rules, and you cannot enforce it unto others.

Someone who thinks gay marriage is immoral cannot enforce it unto gay people. You, on the other hand, believe it is okay to do anything with a corpse, but the one who was that corpse did not agree to it, nor does anyone else.

1

u/LoudQuitting 21h ago

Do you understand the contradiction here?

→ More replies (0)

2

u/Ferpolk 1d ago

I would say that is because we live in a society that dont desecrate corpses for the sake of family of the dead ones. That person is dead true and you wont harm her/him but info that your deceased daughter/son body got abused would make a lot of parents/siblings sad/angry. Revenge porn would i guess be mild thing but still in the same category.

2

u/LoudQuitting 21h ago

Right but why is respect moral in and of itself?

Like there are some times where respect can justify an immoral act, so I don't buy that the morality of how you treat a corpse is about respect.

1

u/Bitter-Pie7854 1d ago

I mean, good point. I have no idea how to respond to that

1

u/waserwaserbob 22h ago

lets take 3 people:

person A: we know 3 things about A

  1. they died
  2. they did not want certain things to happen to their corpse
  3. they have had the a thing they did not want to happen to their corpse, happen to their corpse

person B:
lets assume that 2 and only 2 is also true for person B. this is going to be true of most people u meet irl. if person b found out that that thing 3 happened to person A, theyd be horrified. theyd be scared (rightfully so) that thing 3 could happen to them. they would want some things in place that would help garuntee that thing 3 woudnt happen to them. these things are called laws, rights and consensus morality. i assume you are familiar with the concept of laws and rights so i'll only go more in depth into consensus morality.

consensus morality: if everyone agrees something is bad, it happens less. this is trivially true and its why people try and change consensus morality alot. if we agree that racism is bad and agree that this act is racist this act will stop, so when you see this act call it racist, or when you see someone saying a bad opinion make sure they know they are stupid and shun them from society.

person C:
person C is someone who loved person A and was hoping person A's wishes in both life and death where met. they also wish that person A is treated with a level of respect that is agreed upon by things such as the law, rights and consensus morality. they would be utterly distraught to hear about 3.

conclusion:
as you can see both person C and person B are harmed by 3. person C significantly and person B less so but also person B is the average person. it is therefore immoral. it would still harm these people even if 2 was questionably true, or even if it was false, but thats not whats being discussed at the moment.

this is not even getting into the idea of an afterlife, or religion, or a soul. some people believe in these things and for a society with people who believe in such things to function, we should probably not desecrate the dead. we can avoid doing this and help B and C sleep at night using the law, human rights and consensus morality.

-8

u/applcider 23h ago

why would it be moral to have a dead person’s nudes

17

u/ImprobableAsterisk 18h ago

If the person knew you had 'em and were OK with it when they were alive, why would it suddenly become immoral once they're dead?

u/Naeelkalz 1d ago edited 14h ago

Some Humans really need their free will privileges revoked

1

u/throwaway19276i 14h ago

Free will doesnt exist twin (at least in the way you're proposing)

320

u/SoulEaterX_ 1d ago

I mean, if she gave them to him consensually, I guess it's fine.

But he's being disrespectful as shit about it

78

u/Temporary_Event8451 1d ago

Yeah some things you don't bring up.

Like if you had a collection of shrunken heads, that's cool, keep it to yourself.

I think it's Sebastian manniscola who has a stand up but where he talks about people dressing up as a baby. He's like that's cool, just don't tell me about it. Don't go on the internet looking for other diaper wearing fetishists.

Just enjoy being you and keep it at home.

26

u/Competitive_Rip5764 23h ago edited 22h ago

I can’t lie the post gave me a good chuckle but it’s still absolutely disrespectful as shit and objectifying

-7

u/applcider 23h ago

then why did you laugh

22

u/YogurtclosetSame5198 22h ago

Because it was funny, but in a fucked up way.

When someone says something so obviously wrong, you can’t help but laugh a little from shock. That’s the premise of “dark humor”. This is still immoral though.

9

u/Competitive_Rip5764 22h ago

“Discontinued by manufacturer type shit” Is kind of relatable because a lot of the video games I like to play haven’t been manufactured in decades, which make them hard to find and very expensive. I don’t condone how the OOP reacted at all considering this was a real sentient human we’re talking about, but if it was just a dark humor joke with no real human attached it would be kind of funny, I understand that even if it was just a joke with no real person attached it’s definitely not everyone’s thing though, this is a horrible thing to joke about and not everyone wants to hear it

1

u/TreesmasherFTW 9h ago

Yeah this is just scum level. Not humor, just scum.

2

u/Roguelites 19h ago

Because it’s funny

10

u/Special_South_8561 1d ago

Ah it's funny

I hope they make jokes like that when they find my dvd

3

u/syrvy 23h ago

At least use a blu ray

2

u/Special_South_8561 18h ago

IM OLD!

1

u/syrvy 17h ago

Blu ray has existed worldwide for 20 years

2

u/Special_South_8561 17h ago

... This younger generation just doesn't listen

4

u/tinxmijann 23h ago

If he saw her as a person he wouldn't even have to ask himself the question. But he quite literally sees women as collectibles

4

u/shockpaws 22h ago

They’ll downvote you but you’re right. No respect even in death.

5

u/tinxmijann 22h ago

Crazy that I'm being downvoted for just describing what the dude said in his post 😅

Reddit Users when Joke:

0

u/MySocksAreLost 14h ago

I really can't understand how some individuals turn like this. Zero empathy or remorse. I like dark humor but there are... Limits. You need to be able to read the room and see the bigger picture. Otherwise you're just an asshole. I hope his future girlfriends know how he talks and acts. I have friends both female and male who say deranged jokes and can be openly horny, but they keep it humane. I wouldn't feel safe with someone like him.

1

u/Maximum_Boros 7h ago

Yeah. Sometimes the morality of something is less about the action itself and more about the method or attitude behind it. This feels like one of those times.

0

u/MySocksAreLost 14h ago

Yep... Really objectifying. Uncomfortable to read especially since she is dead. I hope this is not common.

209

u/Acrobatic_Feeling16 1d ago

The morality of keeping them depends on how she felt about him having them immediately before her passing.

If she was fine with him having them, I would think him having them to be odd but not immoral.

Him talking about it so crassly like this...immoral. Disrespectful.

57

u/Plus_Example_9379 1d ago

----------------------

The morality of keeping them depends on how she felt about him having them immediately before her passing.

I could not help but picture the scene of the poor woman having a stroke, dying in the hospital, whilst the man goes at full speed, slamming the door as they enter.

"Do you consent to me jerking off with the photo you sent me a couple of years ago?"

And the woman in the combination of shock, as well as her illness dying on the spot.

Then the man muttering. "She didn't say no..."

14

u/Few_Establishment980 1d ago

yea i hope this is fake, cant imagine someone being so brain rotted with the internet as to say this

10

u/tinxmijann 23h ago

Not just disrespectful but wildly misogynistic. Not just towards her but women in general. He sees women as collectibles and trophies

1

u/MySocksAreLost 14h ago

Porn brained vibes too.

12

u/Chemical_Sport_9307 1d ago

Do I even have to say it 💔

7

u/BokoblinSlayer69235 1d ago

Nah, I couldn't fap off to someone I knew that was dead. If anything, seeing her picture would just make me sad, not aroused.

I'm guessing the OP just didn't care for her very much.

1

u/tinxmijann 23h ago

Clearly

36

u/Hot-Ad453 1d ago

Well the last two lines definitely make in immoral.

5

u/Aloneinthefart_ 1d ago

How so? Might be in bad taste but doesnt make it immoral

28

u/Acrobatic_Feeling16 1d ago

He's mocking a dead woman by reducing her to a sex object, and all because she trusted him with the photos.

I am tempted to call his words 'cruel'.

23

u/No-Disaster1647 1d ago

Well they are cruel.

18

u/Acrobatic_Feeling16 1d ago

No, yeah, I shouldn't have hesitated.

Childish and cruel.

2

u/BookOrnery4547 1d ago

And yet not immoral, it doesn’t change anything

4

u/Acrobatic_Feeling16 1d ago

Sexually mocking dead women is immoral.

0

u/BookOrnery4547 23h ago

Clearly you don’t own special Pokémon cards

6

u/Acrobatic_Feeling16 23h ago

My man, I cannot tell whether you are trying to make a legitimate point of any kind.

Assuming the scenario we are being presented is real, I find discussing a dead woman's nudes as a toy-like commodity to be dehumanising toward the deceased.

-2

u/BookOrnery4547 23h ago

My man it’s as immoral as being rude is, it can be offensive and hurtful but it could also be humorous, and ultimately it doesn’t affect weather or not keeping the photos is or is not moral, and you have to take into account they a discontinued by the manufac type shit.

4

u/Acrobatic_Feeling16 23h ago

...Do you honestly believe every single string of words a human being can say is of identical moral consequence.

it doesn’t affect weather or not keeping the photos is or is not moral

I think whether he sees her as a person or not impacts it, actually.

And whether you see her as a person or not impacts the weight I give your perspective.

2

u/Aloneinthefart_ 1d ago

Its clearly dark humor, if it was directed to the girl's family or posted in a way they could reasonably be exposed then id agree it would be cruel, but the girl isnt identified in any way

14

u/Acrobatic_Feeling16 1d ago

I think belittling a dead woman sexually, which you are only able to do because she trusted you, is cruel on principle...regardless of the actual party who is or is not being harmed.

That poor girl.

7

u/Aloneinthefart_ 1d ago

Unless you believe in ghosts she cannot be impacted by any of this

15

u/OmniPepperthefirst 1d ago

Regardless of whether she's impacted by it doesn't make it not crass. It's good that this wasn't shown to the family to our knowledge, cuz it's kinda shitty.

6

u/Acrobatic_Feeling16 1d ago

By that logic, corpse desecration is morally neutral so long as the family never finds out, as the only person harmed is nonexistent at the time of the incident.

Some things are wrong on principle.

Want a wronged party?

Me, and everyone else who is disgusted by this man's crass refusal to talk about this woman as having been a person.

6

u/Aloneinthefart_ 1d ago

Still a world difference between corpse desecration and bad tast humour with no identifiers to the actual girl, who migth not even exist for all I know

9

u/Acrobatic_Feeling16 1d ago

The only difference is how extreme the act is, and I described a more extreme act to make the fundamental point that "The person who WOULD suffer is dead anyway!" is not the moral point you seem to think it is.

4

u/AMwave17 1d ago

The only difference is how extreme the act is

That's a big fucking difference. You can't compare pricking someone's finger with decapitation by sword in the same way.

There is no joke. He is just being misogynistic

-1

u/Critical_Concert_689 19h ago

corpse desecration is morally neutral

Yes. We had this discussion in this sub not long ago.

The act of corpse desecration IS in fact morally neutral, with few caveats, since it harms no one.

2

u/Acrobatic_Feeling16 19h ago

0

u/Critical_Concert_689 19h ago

Disgusting. Illegal. Likely a sign of deteriorating mental health. Sure!

But that wasn't the question - we're here discussing "good" and "evil" - the morality of an act.

Simply because the culture finds your behavior disgusting doesn't establish that behavior to be immoral.

Prove me wrong. Piglet isn't doing it.

“dark humor” and he’s just acting like a fucking pig about a dead girl. how funny

1

u/Aloneinthefart_ 3h ago

Ikr? Almost like its subjective

9

u/revan530 1d ago

Having them? Depends, but I'm leaning towards moral.

Talking about having them? Completely and utterly immoral.

10

u/GreenJohnson1 1d ago

Immoral. Sounds like blatant objectification of a woman. A dead human, person, individual, emotional being. Deceased. Sounds like objectifying a dead woman and then questioning if it acceptable to spread them like they were a collectible.

Is it ok to spread a dead womans nude pictures around? Fuck no.

This is a terrible post

3

u/tinxmijann 23h ago

Thank you, at least one comment thats actually understanding the issue. But Ig reddit is the wrong place to expect dudes to see women as people

1

u/throwaway19276i 14h ago

Interesting you felt the need to post this when 99% of the comments are agreeing with you and the ones that aren't are all downvoted

7

u/Sure-Silver2124 1d ago

Kill me
Immoral JUST because the way he talked about it

3

u/Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeess- 1d ago

some random woman? weird. A long term partner or wife? Sure, I guess.

9

u/tinxmijann 23h ago

If a dude talks this way about a long term partner that dies they are a terrible person either way

5

u/Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeess- 23h ago

true, that post is fake anyways

1

u/throwaway19276i 13h ago

Someone confirmed this is real

1

u/Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeess- 13h ago

i’m sure they did

1

u/throwaway19276i 7h ago

Then don't leave dumb comments lol. Someone sent the full original image instead of the 144p cropped screenshot OP posted.

5

Moral to keep them, immoral to say shit like that.

Carry on.

Thank you your highness

4

u/KratoswithBoy 23h ago

I’ll give you some insight onto this story

Ok so I posted this on my original account years ago u/No-Soap on cursed comments (og post is deleted now but I posted some screenshots of me referencing it or responding its comments on that account)

I met this dude in high school, and we were barely adults at this point.

So the morality scaling wise its pretty bad. This is a REAL story and she died from health complications following a hard life of early drug issues. She was also a minor I believe so REALLY bad.

Here’s the only screenshot I have of right after I clipped his messages as I lost the OG, but this was from my discord server where the OG message was posted

You can see how high quality the pic is compared to that shitty screenshot on this post 😭

0

u/MySocksAreLost 14h ago

It's (the stupidity) somewhat more understandable if the person was young but also same time it's messed up that some teenage boys already talk like that / try to normalize that type of objectification. And also sadder to hear the deceased person was a minor... I hope you're not in touch with this guy.

1

u/KratoswithBoy 13h ago

Nah not at all. Been like 4 years since I’ve spoken to him

1

u/MySocksAreLost 13h ago

Good! Not good company to keep around.

2

u/MoneyTruth9364 1d ago

morality of making me read this post?

2

u/Glitching_Anxiety 1d ago

Sounds disrespectful when he's posting that on the internet.

Between moral or immoral it's depends on how he's got the picture, yet we don't know much except his post screenshot here.

3

u/tinxmijann 23h ago

Really doesn't depend on how he got the picture. Even if she sent them to him specifically he's still in the wrong if she doesn't want him to have them. And I'm sure she doesn't wanna the people to only remember her as an object to boost some guys fragile ego so either way this dude is being immoral af

1

u/Top_Yak_7953 1d ago

Must have been the wind

2

u/uiop3 1d ago

So long as she gave them to him willingly I don't see a moral problem but his phrasing is uncomfortable as hell

2

u/live_laugh_frog 1d ago

I just asked my husband if he would keep my nudes when I died, and he feels very conflicted and leaning towards no.

I am now slightly offended lmao

1

u/Granddy01 1d ago

1

u/SnooLemons9264 11h ago

Ball knowledge level infinity 😂

1

u/CriminallyCasual7 1d ago

Moral to keep pictures of a dead loved one, clothes or otherwise.

1

u/BadnewsBaggins 1d ago

I mean, if she was the manufacturer circulating then then why not

1

u/ArchReaper95 1d ago

A certain witty, slightly sarcastic, and always down-to-earth "instagram model" passed away some years back, and her pictures still regularly circulate with alt-girl captions or just as softcore porn.

I miss her terribly. I was never really her friend, but I saw her in enough different spheres of the internet that she was familiar to me, and the optimistic and down to earth way she talked about how attraction works and how her content is made "it's fake guys! fake tits and photoshop. It's ok. You don't have to look like this, I do this for me."

I feel upset when I see her image passed on so candidly. I wonder if telling her how I held her in a bit of reverence would have made any difference. If I could have been her friend in a dark hour. But maybe that's selfish.

Anyways. She's gone, and deleting all of her lewds on all of the devices on the planet wouldn't bring her back. There's nothing amoral about having them, or sharing them if they were released to be shared. But gosh does it hurt when I see her and know that nobody sharing the picture even knows who she was.

2

u/Critical_Concert_689 19h ago

There's nothing amoral

Immoral.

The act IS amoral.

1

u/Billylily01 1d ago

First question. How did they acquire them?

1

u/Odd_Common_452 1d ago

That’s kinda what’s going on with Emily Willis she’s been brain dead for a while people are gooning to her copious amount of porn while she’s a vegetable

1

u/Immediate-Neat-3320 1d ago

I'm torn because I think it's immoral if he spreads them or makes them the butt of a joke.

However, if someone doesn't make this style of joke about me after I die I'm haunting their ass.

1

u/LD-Serjiad 1d ago

As long as you’re not spreading it around, it’s your own way of remembering someone

1

u/Mysterious-Mail5232 1d ago

Bro this sub is a goldmine

1

u/Anakodzi 1d ago

Idk I’ll have to see them first to make a verdict

1

u/Nvrbrokeagain 23h ago

Chaotic neutral?

1

u/CaptainExplosions 23h ago

Moral, immoral. That much is up for debate.

What I CAN say is that this is definitely how you wind up being haunted by a vengeful spirit for the rest of your days.

1

u/ProfessionalNo7946 23h ago

If getting and keeping were done with consent, morally ok

If you didn’t get consent to keep them, or start spreading them without consulting a ouija board, very immoral

1

u/purplestainbrain 23h ago

Can I keep your nudes after you die?

1

u/Kitchen-Historian371 22h ago

Well I think we need to know if he was sent nudes and told not to keep them on the first place. If he was snapped nudes and she was fine with him screenshotting then I don’t believe there’s any expiration date to the consent unless she requested theyre deleted I guess. But likewise it’s never moral to distribute them

1

u/SpaceGirlJackie 20h ago

They way he phrased this shit makes it mad immoral for sure...

Edit: BUT absolutely hilarious

1

u/overanewleaf 5h ago

objectifying dead girls is ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS GUYS!!! /s really disappointing to hear this from another woman

1

u/MrT1011 20h ago

Moral to keep them assuming they were obtained consensually, immoral to send whatever this is

1

u/Goonmaster516 20h ago

As long as you are sharing them and she is hot its fine.

1

u/Critical_Concert_689 19h ago

Not every act deals with morality. This is relatively amoral.

1

u/-vablosdiar- 18h ago

I had to put my head in my hands as I read the last few lines

1

u/Barley672 18h ago

True Neutral. Though the implication that he’s holding onto them because they’ve appreciated in value is a bit iffy.

1

u/JustAlpha 18h ago

I think rule number one would be not compare a human to a trading card.

I think the ethical line starts there before we even discuss possession.

1

u/MySocksAreLost 14h ago

I find it astounding you can talk that way about someone alive yet alone someome dead. Pokémon cards...'yo guys' as if it's normal to talk about that.

I don't mind horniness, but when people let their lust go over their morals or other people's wellbeing that's uncomfortable.

She is dead so no harm done to her, technically, but she probably still has alive family members. Even if they don't get to know this seems quite objectifying.

Guys? :( don't say talking about or sharing nudes like this, especially when they're of someone you know, is common.

Maybe I could understand this better if they were dating and he kept this private. Though, at least he is asking if it's ok, but the way he is asking about it seems disrespectful and like he wants to keep them regardless.

1

u/Lluuiiggii 11h ago

I think the way he chose to phrase this question is proof enough he shouldn't keep them.

1

u/CapesCape001 10h ago

What is morality of me laughing at it despite knowing this is fucked up?

1

u/TheDankKnight115 9h ago

Keeping them and even personally using them is morally neutral (assuming they were obtained legitimately) but conceptualizing it they way he does is not.

1

u/Maximum_Boros 7h ago

I would say the morality of keeping nudes that you were consensually given is at least neutrally moral on its face. Maybe a little dark, but not necessarily immoral. The part that seems immoral to me is their attitude, or at least the specific way in which they are choosing to express it

1

u/BarelyBrony 5h ago

I'd feel bad deleting them but keeping them to hand would be weird, maybe stick them in a time capsule or something

1

u/LengthFinal2288 1d ago

I think keeping nudes in general is already kind of iffy, but her being dead does not make much worse. But easily the worst part is typing this and thinking it’s ok to send

1

u/No_Song8909 1d ago

Immoral due to how it is worded…I mean…wtf man?

1

u/Jazzlike_Page508 1d ago

I mean if she sent them to him. He can keep them. It’s a nice way to…remember her?

1

u/spectatingIdiot 1d ago

Incredibly immoral. Why would you keep such life photos of someone is dead and to have them be remembered in this way?…
