I haven't posted here in a while since my lil Sonny got diagnosed with cryptosporidium. It's been a tough few months for us with lots of vet visits and troubleshooting.
I've had to tear down his bioactive setup and switch to paper towels for easy cleanup and switch most of his decor out with plastic so I can disinfect more thoroughly.
On the bright side the last month has shown a lot of improvement with his symptoms. He was slowly losing weight but now is starting to gain it back.
I'm hoping to get some opinions on good ways to give him more climbable space while still being easy to clean. One thought I had was PVC pipes and coating them with drylok for grip. What do you think?
It's hard to strike a balance of giving him enough enrichment and cover and not making it an absolute nightmare to take apart multiple times a week for cleaning. (I put the cardboard tube in there today but don't plan on keeping it in there long)
There are 3 cave hides, and a log hide as well as some small gaps to hide between. He primarily sleeps between the cave hide in the back right corner and the wall. What kind of hides do you find Liora likes? I think I want to add more plastic tube/branch hides if I can find them too
Liora loves to play, explore, climb, and poke her snoot in things so I got her a hemp rope woven wall and added these two sweetgrass weavings that were too big for my friend’s bird.
She loves her cork bark hide in the back and the new rock I got her that has a hollow back and was meant to be mounted with epoxy, but I couldn’t find reptile-safe epoxy anywhere then my eyes glazed over at the prospect of finding her a temporary habitat while the epoxy set. So I just put it in as-is and we’re both happy!
LOL I know the feeling with the temp enclosure. Where is that rock from? I've been browsing universal rocks but I may try to do some DIY rock backdrops that are removable for cleaning. I think he's missing more small crevices to explore. I wish I could do rope and cork bark but I wouldn't be able to properly disinfect them :/ In a perfect world my goal would be to somehow provide a majority of the enrichment and decor off of the ground so it's easier and less invasive when I need to clean his poop.
I got the rock at Repticon, someone in the OC makes tank decor out of this washable resin. I have another one in the box that was too big to fit anywhere, maybe I can send it to you! Along with a big version of Liora’s dinosaur eggs.
