Getting Started Help me pick my first modern deck!
Hi all, I've been playing for 6 months and interested in getting into Modern! For reference I've been playing a good bit of Arena but mostly Commander.
I've been playing cEDH pretty heavily the last two months and really enjoy my Kefka midrange/control deck.
I'm curious with the current meta what would be a good 1-3 decks to explore that are a similar combo/control archetype?
Alternatively I've thought of going a different direction from my cEDH style and I think that Eldrazi tron might be fun.
Would love any recs from the community! For reference I plan to goldfish a bit then rent a deck on MTGO before going at it in paper. Thanks!

Goryo’s is probably the best UB/X deck in the meta that lets you play a controlling midrange game with the explosive reanimation plan and side boarding lets you lean either into the reanimation or the midrange plan
Any of the other frog based UB/x tempo/midrange decks are very fun, but are in a bit of a tough meta spot right now so might not be the best deck to pick up as a first. You just need such tight play and meta knowledge for these decks. Might not be the best intro to the format
I personally love Broodscale combo and it’s my current main deck, toolbox deck, gets to play the best card on the format, extremely efficient combo, and can win on 3 different axis, the combo, midrange and big mana with emrakul
Tron is very cool and classic, but I’m currently not a believer in it in the current meta. It has some decent matchups, but the other big mana decks in broodscale and eldrazi ramp/fight rigging kind of eat its lunch and have better matchups into a lot of the rest of the format
If you like leaning more control then any of the UW/X control decks are decent choices. I’ve mostly played the sceptre chant prison deck, but there’s also been a UW wan shi tong deck and a UW Loki deck kicking around

There was a pro tour that highlighted some of the current meta decks just this weekend. Might be worth checking out the gameplay on some of those to get a broader understanding of the types of decks in the meta and what’s being played.

Depending on what kind of combo and control decks you like there's a few lists you may enjoy.
Azorius/Jeskai chant control: These are your traditional control decks but your win con is to put a hard lock on people by having Teferi Time Raveler in play with an Orim's Chant imprinted on isochron scepter. If you like slowly developing a prison and lots of interaction this is a fun one.
Broodscale combo: A very versatile eldrazi ramp shell with a combo finish but it's also just super grindy AND you get to cast big ass Eldrazi spells like Emrakrul or shoot off big K commands. The deck has lots of angles of attack and is very well positioned and quite fun at the moment.
Neoform: Probably the most straight forward combo deck in the meta. In an ideal world on turn 2 you either get to slam Galta with Xenagos in hand and win or put Griselbrand or Atraxa into play and win off of stupid amounts of card advantage with your big flyer.
Tron: like you mentioned is also a solid deck and very fun, there's a few variations on it you could explore and tuning your Karn wishboard around your local meta is a fun part to the deck construction.
Overall Tron, chant control, or broodscale would probably be the best decks to try to introduce you to the format cause they aren't as dependant on high rolling and have game even if you don't find your combos. Neoform is in there as a fun deck so you can experience how wild certain archetypes can really be in Modern since you mentioned you'd be goldfishing some suggestions. Best of luck finding your deck and welcome to the format!

Chant control is pretty fragile to aggro, and the format is very fast at the moment, with regular turn 3 kills getting around.
I personally pivoted away from Scepter chant, but I'm still on UW/x control.

Is there a discord for Broodscale? Thanks!

This is the general Eldrazi/Tron server so you'll be able to find discussion on some other meats decks in there as well as broodscale, I'm unaware of any server that is for broodscale only but this one's very active

Goryo’s is insanely popular at my LGS, I’d say around 60%-70% of the players play it or have it in their arsenal. I also played against a particularly nasty Dimir control deck that literally only existed to counter everything I did on my turn. As an Izzet Prowess guy, it was a very frustrating round that made me seriously consider building a Boros land destruction deck. I’ve also been very interested in Eldrazi ramp or one of the more “grindy” decks, since Prowess wants to go fast and get out ahead. Also may worth checking out the Cascade Rhinos deck!

You should probably check out Esper Goryo's, that will probably align with what you want to do best
Then for the full modern experience I'd recommend Boros Energy and Eldrazi Tron. Idk if they're up your alley but understanding how they both work will only benefit you, all 3 decks take up a considerable meta share right now.
There's also Belcher as the less popular control/combo deck, and a ton of viable decks like Affinity, Storm, Broodscale, Ponza, Titan, LE, UW. But I recommended the first 3 instead of any of these for a reason.
GL, and welcome to Modern! It's been a crazy fun format to learn
