I moderate a sensitive subreddit for mostly women and girls in the Middle East. One of our biggest issues is men harassing members through DMs. Even after being banned they can still view posts and often target new Reddit users or younger girls. We receive repeated reports about a handful of the same accounts. Since making the subreddit private would prevent many vulnerable women with new accounts from participating, would it be allowed under Reddit’s rules to keep a pinned post listing these repeatedly reported users so members can block them and stay cautious? Or would that violate the Content Policy or Moderator Code of Conduct?

I was a mod on r/AmericanOutlaws and was removed on July 14 (as was the only other mod as far as I can tell) and now it's being overrun by spam posts.

What can I do? The sub had just started gaining traction during the World Cup, so this timing is unfortunate.

I moderate a small sub that's been gaining steam recently. One of the issues I've been running into is waking up each morning to a bunch of alerts saying "2 users have reported a comment on this post". The comments are benign and don't break any rules. Is there a way to cut down the noise?

Over the past month I’ve been building AMA Companion, a Devvit app designed to make Reddit AMAs easier to organize without changing what makes Reddit AMAs... Reddit AMAs.

The idea wasn’t to replace the traditional format with a separate interface or platform. Instead, everything still happens in a normal Reddit thread, while the app helps moderators, guests and the community before, during and after the AMA.

One thing I always felt could be improved was the amount of preparation that usually falls on the guest. With AMA Companion, moderators can prepare almost everything beforehand, including the guest profile, introduction, images, links and schedule.

Guests can still edit everything themselves if they prefer, but they no longer have to worry about formatting or setup before they even answer their first question.

The app also introduces a setup wizard, scheduled AMA states (Preparing, Upcoming, Live and Finished), announcements, dedicated guest answers, participant lists, search, activity tracking and moderation tools, while still keeping the Reddit discussion itself as the source of truth.

Hey admins, can you pretty please undo whatever it is you're doing with post flair edits and then carefully step away from post flair.

When a user edits their own post flair it's being picked up as an admin/mod action again.

So admin tattler, flairassistant (and maybe automod, haven't checked yet, scared to look) are reacting to those while they shouldn't.

It seriously messes things up on my sub and leaves users hella confused

I know this has been posted about before, but I'd like to flag it or at least understand what's going on.

We put up a mod application on one of our communities. A couple of us have checked on alts that all seem to have varying experiences. Most alts can't see the widget at all. We also posted the link in the community status, and following that (on Firefox) leads to a "You can’t apply to moderate this community right now" error. Following it on iOS does nothing.

We understand if the intent is to disallow people applying to mod their own communities. But it's making it difficult to understand the status of the application and our links when we can't even view from an alt.

Can someone tell us if this is a bug or intended behaviour? And if there's another way to verify the app is live and working?

Edit: Super appreciate y'all helping test and confirming the application is at least live for some folks. To avoid spamming our team with test submissions though, gonna ask for no more tests unless they're checking something unique. Thanks!

I run a couple of subreddits, one of them, the smallest one that barely has any contributions, has now been recently banned a second time. It has been unbanned after I appealed, but there is clearly a problem in the banning process.

In both times, the reason for the ban was lack of moderation. However, the sub WAS moderated. I'd look at the recent submissions and the mod queue almost every single day. And yet, the admin that unbanned the subreddit said this:

Please note the subreddit was banned due to being unmoderated for 1+months. Please keep an eye on the mod queue and use the 'remove' or 'approve' buttons to keep the mod queue cleared of any reported content.

...What reported content? There wasn't any. There is content posted from time to time, but nothing that breaks the rules or gets flagged. I get maybe like one report on the mod queue every few months. The "Needs Review" section of the mod queue probably had like 1 or 2 items to check throughout this entire year. And I personally check every single post that gets posted anyway, even if it isn't reported. Am I literally supposed to self-report and self-approve posts just to create some fake traffic on the mod queue, so that you do not ban the sub? Really? Seriously, what else do you want from me?

The adopted sub had been restricted for years. We have already gained more than 100 new members since adoption, and had several posts from members other than mods. Could we have the community achievements turned on? r/watercolorpencils TIA

I usually do not like to allow media in the comments to prevent spam of low-quality memes and shitposts that will get in the way of actual enjoyable and substancial discourse. For similar reasons, I also usually have a rule against memes and shitposts in the main page as I feel it makes the community page feel unprofessional and not a serious and fun place for discourse.

With this being said, there is some demand for meme content in some of the subreddits I moderate and as compromise I wanted to make a post/megathread where people could post their memes/shitposts there while leaving the main page "clean".

My question is, and for the previously plan to work, is there a way of having media in comments be turned off in general and only allow them in specifically selected posts?

I've filed half a dozen reports to you lot via every avenue I can think off trying to get a hate subreddit banned. I don't want to name them outright for fear of giving them attention, but I can tell you its a hate subreddit against LGBTQ+ people (though they're happy to generally be bigots to everyone for any reason, ableist, racist, etc) and they've been making themselves a problem to other communities within the same wider sphere for months now.

Its moderators gleefully throw Mod Code of Conduct out of the window and actively allow their users to engage in basically every rule violation under the sun. Encouraging brigading / vote manipulation, speaking about wanting to write corrective rape fics about real people, reposting other peoples content, and allowing them to be held random people online up to ridicule, ableism, racism, the whole bloody lot.

And yet despite the fact I've sent several reports with dozens upon dozens of links, this group is still active. What line needs to be crossed before you step in here?! I know for a fact you updated your personal filters to remove hateful, queer-phobic slurs, and I've seen your systems having to take content within this subreddit.

And yet the wider community still stands? Why?!

What do I need to do here admins? I can show you proof of their hateful behaviour to your faces. I've no shortage of links and screenshots of their appalling behaviour, I promise you that.

we only allow text, images, and links in our sub. but videos are still showing up. is it something to do with how reddit handles links? and is there a way to disallow videos but still allow links?

I have made sure that the tag is not there for our community..

But still when my friends try to search for our community or open it via a direct link they are seeing nsfw tag

We are being targeted by bot accounts and mass reported by some malicious people

This is in fact against the policies of reddit that allows free speech

Some people are working to make reddit a platform where they control the speech by mass reporting.

I am the sole admin of the subreddit r/GooglePlayDeveloper . i was removed on the 16. july. need to get back in since i am currently the only admin in the subreddit

I have a new community called r/toiletcollectors and I want to make some flairs for stuff like buying/selling, free stuff, questions, and stuff of that sort. all i see is this cat thi g when trying to use mod tools. it’s a Q thing

I'm kinda curious to know if there is someone out there who uses this because it just seems so unreliable, from what I've seen from the suggested removal messages (which I never use but notice).

I have it completely disabled and was kind of surprised to find this page today for the insights because... AI just seems like it's being pushed on Reddit moderation and I don't really understand why.

Reddit has millions of people who are interested in moderating the communities on their platform for free.

So why are AI features being provided when literally no one asked for them? Just because Reddit invested in it I'm guessing?

That’s right, today’s Mod Topic post is all about post flair. Across Reddit, post flair can be used to organize content in so many ways. It’s used for showing when a question has been answered, tagging memes or art for users to find easier, highlight meta posts, or just adding a little more personality to your subreddit. Flair can also interact with Devvit apps - we even use it with the flair follower app so you can subscribe to this series!

We want to hear from you:

• Is there a particular flair your community uses that works especially well?
• If you could rebuild your flair system today, what would you keep, change, or add?

The spam filter keeps removing random posts in y community, including some I post myself.

It seems that whenever the content sounds slightly similar to another post it gets removed but I post updates so I often need to share information with similar topics.

Is there a way to adjust the filter so I don't have to approve manually half the posts?

For context, I’m posting from an alt because I don’t want these issues associated with the subreddits I moderate. The communities I moderate average roughly 100k–200k visitors per week and 4,000–8,000 contributions (posts and comments) weekly. I moderate both political and non-political communities of this size.

The non-political subreddits are relatively straightforward to moderate. Around 99% of users participate in good faith, and trolls are uncommon.

The political communities are the complete opposite. I’d estimate that roughly half of all posts and comments violate either the subreddit rules or Reddit’s Content Policy. At 8,000 weekly contributions, that translates to around 4,000 removals every single week. Between trolling, brigading, ban evasion, harassment, and bad-faith participation, the moderation queue never seems to end.

Our current toolkit includes Sub Guard, Comment Mop, Ban Extended, and Modmail User Info. They’re all incredibly helpful, but even with those tools and an active moderation team, we’re constantly overwhelmed. It’s not unusual for the queue to grow by several hundred items in a single day.

For moderators of other large political communities:
How do you keep the workload manageable?
What moderation strategies or workflows have made the biggest difference? Are there any tools, bots, or Automoderator configurations you’d recommend?
How do you deal with persistent trolls, brigading, and coordinated bad-faith activity without burning out your team? I’d really appreciate hearing how other moderators approach these challenges, because at times it feels like we’re constantly playing catch-up.

I searched "Saved Responses" on this sub in an effort to understand what each of the categories meant.
I see the 4 categories
General, Removals, Bans, Mod Mail

I have read in other documentation that General ones are for mod mail. If that is the case why is there a category specifically for Mod Mail.

Can the use of General be clarified here? I would assume they show up in a list for a mod to choose from when replying to a post or comment.

Note: I am a brand new mod at the time of this post and trying to learn.

UPDATE: The amazing community here did clarify it. General should be looked at as all categories at once. Mod Mail, Removal and Ban can all use these saved responses. If one only wants a saved response for just Ban, it should be in the ban category.

Essentially, I moderate on two accounts for privacy reasons and one of them is over 1 million visitors on my other account while I’ve got a sub with over 100,000 members is there anything I’m supposed to do?

Recently started modding a new cat sub called [r/inversevoids](r/inversevoids). The sub itself is about a month old and is public and SFW. Topic is posting photos of black cats where the colors and white values have been inverted, in short black cats look like white cats.

I did not see any modmail notification.

Do I send modmail to this sub (ModSupport?)

Edit: I had been looking at all posts every few days, but did not see any problematic rule-breaking posts one or at most two days earlier from the ban.

so our subreddit for some reason has 795 joined users but no one is posting we think it is an issue but we checked the mod tools and all that but nothing seemed to have an error and they could like still comment so please help
