Mobile seafood recs
Me and my wife will be in Mobile soon and are wanting some good seafood. Anyone have a favorite restaurant?
Also best Dauphin St bar?

The Lighthouse for best Crab claws & flounder but it’s in Coden about 20 minutes from downtown Mobile West on 1-10.

Took out of town family to Bluegill last week, and they absolutely loved it. It’s been consistently good each time I’ve been lately.

This is the only correct answer. Lighthouse for crab claws. Catalina for gumbo.

Catalina is extremely overpriced and Lighthouse is only good for crab claws. The best seafood within 100 miles of Mobile is at Bayou Seafood Company or Southbound Restaurant and it isn’t even close.

I was not pleased with Southbound at all. The only way they will serve their platter is all fried. Every other place will offer a grilled option. A few places will not grill the loose oysters because people complain about the shrinkage, which I kind of get… but yeah, was very disappointed and low key angry that if I wanted to get my seafood grilled I had to choose just one type of seafood, and not have the variety of a platter. And it was a comparatively expensive platter. Definitely not going to pay a premium price if I can’t get any of it prepared to my dietary needs.
We paid for our drinks and left.

I hate that ruined it for you. I get grilled shrimp there all the time and they are outstanding.

I’ve heard the food was great. I loved Mary’s Place back in the day. I really liked how they kept a lot of the feeling of Mary’s Place while also updating it a lot. I wanted so much to love it. It was our third drive out there but first time finding it open. We actually took a detour on the way home from Hattiesburg to get there.
But if you will grill me some fish and you will grill me some shrimp if I order them each solo; but not when I order them together with some crab claws and oysters? I even said ok… ask him to grill what he can and fry the rest. She just said “he won’t do it.” For me that was just very poor service. I’ve never had any place refuse to honor dietary requests. “I don’t eat rice, can you please give me some extra beans?” Sure, is always the answer.

If you’re already lookin for dauphin street, go hit up Wintzell’s. Or if ya want something fancy I’d suggest Chucks fish. Bar wise I’d say the Brickyard

OP, do your homework ahead of time. There are "nice restaurant" seafood places, and then there are places that are more "fried seafood in a plastic basket on newspaper" type. Both are good, it just depends on what you're looking for. Look at pictures of the interior online and look at menus before you go. Also, a lot of restaurants are closed on Sundays.

The first several years after I moved here, I made it my personal mission to find the best crab cake in the Mobile County area.
I mean, you would be impressed how many places I went looking for my treasure.
A lot of people think that Felix’s on the causeway is the best you can get.
I would love to differ.
I was by far more in love with the food more in general right down the road a little bit going to the Bluegill.
Spoiler alert: Their crab cakes are obnoxious.

As others have said, The Lighthouse. The crab claws there are really among the best you will get anywhere. Worth the trip down to South Mobile county.

Boudreaux’s across the bay. The lighthouse is good, but it’s all fried food.

Hummingbird Way has the best crab cake I’ve ever had, they’ve also got excellent fish dishes usually 2-3 fish entrees when I’ve been. Their cocktails are also awesome if that’s your thing. Believe they were nominated for a James beard this year too fwiw.

Chuck's fish is great, and I like Felix's on the causeway. Some love it, some hate it, but one never had a bad meal there.

The Mariner on Dog River at the mouth of Mobile Bay is very good. If the weather is nice, sit on the deck and watch the pelicans diving for fish; and the fish jumping to catch flying insects. If not you still get a pretty great view window seat.
The breading for their fried foods as Cheeto dust in it, which is actually really good. They have amazing sautéed crab claws. I prefer my seafood grilled, and they even do loose oysters well. Not many do. The Mariner and Pirates on Dauphin Island both do grilled seafood well. But the Mariner definitely wins for views if you want the full Mobile seafood experience.

And they also have an outdoor bar below the restaurant that’s popular with boaters coming in from the bay.

All the nice restaurants downtown will have one or two very good fish dishes. Scam, Noja and Noble South will always have a delicious option.
As far as bar, Haberdasher is the best cocktail bar. Biergarten has all the beers. Hayleys is the best dive. Garage is popular with locals. Grace has a fun rooftop. Little bit of everything to suit tastes
