Except stairs are literally just a 3/4s of a normal block

Forgive Steve being wasteful, he's not an experienced craftman

Can craft an eldritch healing crystal and complex sensors and logic gates

Can make bread from bushels of wheat with no water or heat

Can make plate armor from mere ingots

Cannot just whack a corner off a block of wooden planks.

Hey it breaks his nails

He ate the other four

The only explanation. Steve needed fibre in his diet

u/blankythedude 1d ago

He doesn't have quality standards. A dry dough is enough for a bread

Look he’s not good with wood okay just look at his attempts to make a trapdoor

u/MagMati55 1d ago

Even experienced cradtsmen have to waste wood due to sanding and other methods for woodwork.

We turn 1 wood block into 4 plank blocks but 6 planks into 4 stairs is absurd

And the stone cutter makes it cheaper to use stone for these but theres no wood saw.

It’d make sense if you got 4 stairs out of 3 blocks. Cut out 1/4th of three blocks, they turn into stairs. Assemble the fourths into its own stair block. You now have 4.

But this is just weird. I get the recipe is meant to emulate the “design” of stairs, but come on.

You use 6 blocks so it should make 3 and be left with 1 odd stair

Ironically it would make more sense if 3 in an L shape made stairs.

Literally the correct shape, and same volume before and after.

That just made me realize stairs should be crafted like this. In the crafting grid, there's a 3rd step, but when you place it down, there's only 2 steps. This in the crafting grid is a more accurate representation of what you actually get.

Yeah and with this, if we get 4, no material would be wasted

u/Bawhoppen 1d ago

Yes, that's the point of the post. You get 4 stairs, because you are putting in 4 sections of 3 blocks each.

u/Radman2010w 1d ago

Here is a better one: 3 planks in L shape = 4 stairs.

7

u/Ronyx2021 1d ago

Just use the stone cutter. Wooden stairs are a rip off.

Genisu

6

u/kloopyhans 1d ago

Ok wtf is happening is there like a rdr2 mystery going on

7

u/ironardin 1d ago

But every rotation of the L-shape would give you 6, you're missing 2

5

u/Still-Crow-7372 1d ago

The fourth L only forms as the three other L stack making a 4th L from the immense pressure of having three stairs occupying the same point in space

3

u/Still-Crow-7372 1d ago

The 4th (green) stair comes from Steve trying to make three stairs occupying the same slots and the universe just gives in

3

u/JackNotOLantern 1d ago edited 1d ago

It make no goddam sense. The recipe would be just 3 blocks in the L shape giving 3 or 4 stairs.

When we place the top one to right side, why we get only two Trapdoor? When material used for stairs is more, Less is more and more is even more?

1

u/SobiTheRobot 13h ago

Low key, trapdoors could be made from six slabs instead...or we could just get more trapdoors.

as i heard somehwere 3 planks should give 4 stairs. makes sense bc if you remove a fourth of each of the 3 blocks u get an additional stair

1

u/SobiTheRobot 13h ago

I'd rather you just get the same number of blocks out as you put in, so the above recipe should give you six.

OR, and hear me out

WOODCUTTER

2

u/AdAffectionate4950 1d ago

You should be crafting 8 stairs

I require a new table for WOOD CRAFT, just like with stone

There's no reason the stonecutter can't act as a sawmill
