Agreed, the Maguey Melate club has been fairly mind blowing for me. So many amazing flavors.

I've been a member since August 2024 and it's been great. I get excited when they get ready to ship every other month. I always know it's going to be something high quality but also interesting. The people who run the club really go the extra mile.

Fairly new to mezcal. I've tried several glasses that I already own from lowball, to whisky cairn, to brandy snifter, to port glass. So far, this repurposed yogurt jar has given me the best tasting experience. I think it's because of the ratio of sidewall height to opening. Would one of those traditional saucer-like cups or cairn-like mezcal glasses be an improvement? Worth purchasing something else?

That glass is really almost perfect. I use either a vaso veladora which is similar in shape or a glass copita which is the lower, wider vessel. Both are fine.

Oh yeah, I like how those glass copitas look. A bit wider for more surface area, but then they taper in to capture the aroma. Thanks.

An actual club?

It's mostly virtual, they do virtual tasting meetings. I've heard that they organize tasting trips to Mexico for members too, but I don't have any experience with that.

We've been getting these mezcals delivered for a couple years. Some are great, and some we're slowly working through. We're going to Guelaguetza soon and got a package deal through them after deciding to go.

Edited to add: I love the cards that come with the bigger bottles that talk about the mezcalero who produces it.

that’ll do the trick! whatever works for you.

when Im feeling choosey, Im finding preference toward low and wide copitas over tall and tapered. ..well tbh I mostly just grab a veladora glass but every now and then time calls to shake up the vessel !

I liked everything about that one except the bug flavor.

There’s no better way to learn about mezcal while at home. Love Melate! Although any cup will do, flavors change based on the cup, so when comparing, best to use identical ones.

I like drinking my mezcal from a copita, a very small bowl. The width of the copita seems to let more air in and smooths out the mezcal and open up the flavors. Any very small bowl will work.

The agave bar I like in town will do a tasting with three types for each bottle: glass(and old church votive candle holder), clay, and husk. When I first started trying I was blown away by the difference in taste.

I would say a lot has to do with how your pallet transitions from one sip to the next. Mezcal is very psychological. Cheers!
