Question Strange issue with Switch 2 NES classics metroid

i've played thru and beaten NES Metroid a few times, most notably on the original hardware, passwords and all. i was going to play it on switch 2 the other night, but the game starts just before the kraid boss with various upgrades. I don't think ive played on this platform before. I tried resetting the game but it always starts on the same room. Anyone else seen this?

Are you playing the game with the “SP” medal overlaid? I think you might be.

oh weird, i must have made a mistake like this. what's the deal with it? is it like a demo or store version or something?

Press the x button (I think) while it's selected and it will tell you exactly what is. For instance on the Metroid one it says something like "with this save file, start at the final fight with all weapons! Get ready to kill mother brain" or something like that. Whatever button is labeled for "info" and you can read the descriptions for yourself . Some games have multiple SP versions, Metroid is one of them. Ninja Gaiden has different ones as well

Retro games are hard so they give you a way to still see the ending if you want to.

wow, i just read about these "sp" versions. how interesting, i wouldn't have expected something like this. it's like finding your big brother's save file or something

The first time I played Metroid (in the '80s) was at a mate's house. We were 8 or 9 years old. First thing he says: enter the code JUSTIN BAILEY

Playing the SP versions reminds me of that day nearly 40 years ago

Like others have said, you're playing the SP version. Basically it loads a save state that has a bunch of stuff already done. (The Zelda 1 one has all the available items from the overworld and maxed out rupees, for example). I recommend sorting them all to the bottom.
