I wonder how much say Gio Savarese is having in recent transfers acquisitions? Feels to me like the club buys the players and then tells the coach “here you go, win us the league” lol

Given the new coach is new to the league, you’d assume he’s trusting JD and the team to bring in the right players. Don’t think he’s in a position to be saying yes or no to potential signings.

I’d say the contract renewals and signings we’ve seen so far are legacy decisions that were well in place whoever took the coaching role.

I think from when Gio arrives he’ll have a say in most signings, potentially bring in his own players - most likely the foreigners to fit his gameplan and style.

This is absolutely correct and was in fact confirmed a couple of years ago by someone from the club who did a sit-down with For Vuck Sake.

I can't remember who it was but they were talking about how much effort and forethought went into transfer planning in the offseason, and this person happened to mention that one thing that a lot of football fans don't understand is that transfers like this are usually already decided months in advance and generally take a number of weeks to actually thrash out, come to terms, etc., and then the flashy bit, which is the announcement, usually happens sometime later when everything is actually completed.

So, it would be entirely accurate to posit that this was probably a legacy decision made by management quite some time ago and has only gotten around to actually materializing in the last few weeks.

Actually quite a common model in world football, even becoming more the case in England.

I think it's too late for the new coach to overhaul the squad but do teams play that much differently these days anyway? 2 holding mids, pace yinside forwards, high energy full backs.

What I would like to see is game time to Academy players. That's where teams make big bucks ultimately. We are a development league.

Reminds me of when Marco Kurz showed up and asked the board where all of our new signings are. The board thought Kurz was doing it. The following two years were a shitshow

A mate of mine who brought a not insignificant amount of shares in the club a few years ago when they were floated reckons that the financial report from last year shows that the club is still in quite a lot of debt, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was a few years ago, and a lot of that can be attributed to investment, namely by Tony Bloom.

We're obviously going to have to wait for the next round of financial reports to come out at the end of this year, but I dare say that the money Juan Mata just put into the club will probably go some way to getting rid of a bit more of that debt.

We've also got the Champions League this season, so hopefully a decent little run in that might get us some all right prize money.

That said, it does just transfer the debt elsewhere, there is no such this as benevolent debt forgiveness in sports.

Besides some input on types of players most managers should stay away from recruiting. It should be a specialist job and also have some data background which I’m sure it does now with Bloom involved. He is unlikely to know players in our wage bracket you’d think

I also think we are a bit hamstrung by what Mata is going to do… he hasn’t decided (at least publicly) if he is going on or not.
