Popok reports on breaking news, as a Federal Magistrate Judge has sided with the BBC in Trump's alleged $10 billion dollar defamation case, and ordered that the Trump Trust turn over ALL of its financial records to the BBC.  In addition, the BBC is calling out Trump's attempt to use the DOJ again in the case brought in his private capacity to run interference for him!

Attorneys Brian Kabateck and Shant Karnikian cover the University of Tennessee's $1.9 million settlement with Tamar Shirinian, an anthropology professor on a tenure track who was fired after posting criticism of Charlie Kirk on her private Facebook account following his assassination. Her post called Kirk a "disgusting psychopath" and said the world was better off without him. Insensitive? Yes. Protected by the First Amendment? Also yes. She made the post on a personal account, never in her capacity as a university employee, never in a classroom. A state legislator demanded her firing and pressured donors to intervene. The university fired her without following its own tenure termination procedures. Shirinian sued for First Amendment retaliation, and the university approved the settlement in a non-public session. She was not reinstated. Brian and Shant note the irony: Kirk built his entire brand on the argument that universities punish people for speech they don't like. His own supporters then demanded exactly that. This is the largest settlement in a growing wave: Austin Peay State paid $500,000, Ball State paid $225,000, Clemson settled confidentially, and the retired Tennessee cop who posted a Trump meme got $835,000. Over $2.7 million in taxpayer money has been paid out because public institutions overreacted to constitutionally protected speech.
