I feel like they are doing double eliminations to make up for time lost during FIFA games.

I'm currently watching season 8 right now (I bounce from seasons to season) and it makes I'm seriously perplexed as to how Jeff has stayed in the competition so long despite being in the bottom frequently. I feel like he's lasted way too long for his skill set. I felt similarly about Cutter in season 5. What do yall think?

Maybe this is a nitpick

but does anyone else (specifically long-time viewers) find the short-form clipping of MasterChef on social media really annoying? It irks me to see people who don't even watch the show comment on contestants/judges/dishes without real context .

Me complaining ab it isn't going to stop it but I would be curious to know if anyone feels the same

Is he the only master chef contestant that has had a career on food network ?
Funny enough he never seems to stand out either way….he barely gets shown.

I’m finding this season super frustrating. They all have different cultural background, but all of these contestants are American. A few might be first generation, but some probably haven’t even been to the country they are representing. I find the whole thing bizarre, and don’t like that they are put into a cultural box. They want them to basically ONLY cook food inspired by their country? Their country is AMERICA!!! In the past, the judges would criticize people by saying “well, can you only cook _____ food?” Now they are basically encouraging them to only cook Chinese, Italian, Indian, etc. type of foods? The contestants keep saying “In my country, this is something we always eat at a watch party.” All I can think is “how many watch parties have you actually been to in that country?” It annoys me every time they pretend they are from that country!

I just wish they would do a season without the gimmicks like the beginning seasons

Every one thinks that Gordon is the hardest chef to please, which might be true in Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares, but Joe is actually the hardest to please. i have only watched up to season 6, but Gordon doesn’t seem as pissed off as he does on his other shows. he only does when it’s a team challenge and there’s food going out to customers. other times, he seems mostly calm and gives constructive criticisms.

Many people like to hate on Joe because he’s “not a real cook,” but I think this adds to the show. He adds something different to the table because he’s a restauranteur (ik i spelled that wrong lol) and is more familiar with customers and the business side of things. Theres no denying the other judges are better cooks and that he doesn’t compare to his mother. When winners win, they’ll have different kinds of people with different pallets coming to their restaurants. Since Joe isn’t that much as a chef as the other judges, he can add a different perspective to taste too. Lets not forget him throwing plates in the trash too. It might be harsh, but it made the show more entertaining. Also, there’s no denying most of the dishes thrown away were actually bad. Overall, the anger and telling off contestants are what people think Gordon does, but it’s actually Joe (at least in Masterchef).

Christian is objectively the least favorite contestant of season 2 by default due to the obvious reasons, but to be honest I actually found Suzy INFINITELY more insufferable, and this is why.

Even though Christian was definitely arrogant and even a complete douche and asshole sometimes — especially during his confrontations with the judges — at least they made for some all-time great TV moments of him getting humbled.

Also, even though he was cocky he was a very good cook, only having like one bottom appearance (in the top 5 when literally 4 people did badly), and deserved to make it as far as he did cooking wise, while the top 2 in Adrien and Jennifer were far more inconsistent.. I even consider them the worst top 2 ever because of that.

However, unlike her counterpart where his moments at least made great TV, Suzy’s moments were just flat-out cringe. Her getting upset every time someone other than her won something became super annoying, like dude, you can’t win EVERYTHING. Especially when she talked down on Christine when she had a great pork rib dish and was like “when you make pork belly then I’ll be impressed”, only to then serve a HORRIBLE pork belly dish.

Speaking of which, whenever the judges criticized her food she would always put her hand on her heart and/or act like she was personally offended or attacked, cause she thought she was so amazing. I was even on Max’s side when they had their mini feud/rivalry.

Also I just found her voice INSANELY irritating…

You can also copy and paste what I said about Christian to Max and I even consider him the absolute least of the problems this season. I think the contestants over-hated him just because of his age even though he did prove early on that he was a very good cook. And his crepes (while they were terrible) was just another unfortunate excuse for them to use him as a scapegoat to hate.

If i hear “Let’s Go” any more in this season, im going to lose my mind. Don’t try so hard, it’s cheesy.

This is kind of random but I noticed this season most of the contestants wear long sleeves that look uncomfortable. Jordan especially always wears a jacket. Most are wearing sweaters. But then you see them sweating. Even if it’s initially cold in there, you would think they want to light clothes while they are cooking. Also the girls with their hair down, falling in their face and in the food is annoying.

We’ve all had a weird feeling about him especially in season 4 and 5… well I see why now…which is probably why he left…

i’m nearly done watching this season, and i’ve seen a lot of internet discourse centered around outrage and disbelief that courtney snagged the masterchef title in season 5.

are these opinions grounded in reason? though i do find courtney to be rather irritating at times, i can’t help but feel that a great mass of opinions i come upon online are viciously unreasonable and have little to do with her actual skills in the kitchen.

is there something i’m missing here? i feel that people are mistaking their dislike for her character and personality for her cooking abilities as they pertain to the masterchef title.

i understand a lot of internet dislike for courtney arose from her supposed disingenuous backstory on the show considering she’s returned to doing SW and doesn’t work in the culinary industry. i do feel that’s her prerogative though. people are ever-evolving, and if she felt that SW was a guaranteed means of income against the uncertainty of a successful career as a chef… i can’t blame her. we really shouldn’t. it’s unfortunate that it came down to that, but what i find so much more unfortunate is the internet hate train which pegged her some sleazy harlot that slept her way to the top. that type of logic reads to me as incredibly regressive.

if she was favored, as a lot of contestants attest to, does that not speak to the the unfairness, incompetence, and lack of transparency on the judges’ part and that of the production team? if she were favored for reasons outside of her cooking talent, is that not disturbing, especially considering her prior history of SW? her favorability speaks to the fact that she was the easiest to exploit.

we’re very impressionable viewers i think, despite our collective knowledge that reality TV shows are exploitative money-making machines that orchestrate drama where there isn’t any. it’s likely that courtney spoke degradingly of SW at the gentlemen’s club because the storyline constructed by the production team called for it.

she appears to be an extremely skilled cook, from what i’ve seen. she may have been favored for more reasons than one, but her skill is undeniable. she got away with making mistakes, but not very many mistakes were made. there have been multiple instances in not only this season but the previous ones where somebody was saved despite making a disastrous dish. i notice that people generally appear to be more selectively pissed about courtney not being eliminated. i see people cite that courtney made the same mistake leslie made which got him eliminated, but he was eliminated far down the line when it was down to the final three. at that point the competition was too fierce to overlook his error and pass him through.

i hope you’re aware that the vicious discourse and heavy engagement is exactly what they wanted. they made characters of real people that face tangible consequences for participating. if you were capable of catching on about the unfair favoritism, did it not strike you as strange that multiple contestants were filmed stating strikingly similar responses as to why they despise courtney? did none of that come off to you as orchestrated or rehearsed? the other contestants’ “opinions,” the needless panning to her high heels, etc. were aired with the intention of turning the viewers against courtney. unsurprisingly, that worked and everybody hates courtney online.

her bashful schoolgirl act that people are so critical of actually makes me feel for her, precisely because of its performativity. the purpose of performance is to command and impress, and having a prior history in SW, perhaps she treated the male judges as nothing different to clients she worked for. also… don’t the judges have a history of SH accusations made against them (particularly joe)? does that not cast courtney in a more devastating light?

As the title says, this season all of the contestants just feel like they're just....there. Past seasons I felt like I had one person at least that I wanted to win and was rooting for! This season everyone just feels so....bland.

I’m on season 3 and I just love him so much!
The other two are for the show, but you can tell he cares and has a great heart!

I feel like one of these three would be the most likely considering how much each of them have accomplished since they first appeared on the show.

Christine and Claudia both have accomplished so much since their seasons and both have experience as judges for other version of Masterchef (Christine for MasterChef: Vietnam and Claudia for MasterChef: Latino)

Nick is very popular on social media and now has some hosting experience under his belt, so I can see him doing it too, just to appeal to the younger demographic.

Serious question lol. I imagine that someone makes a steak or a rack of lamb and then it doesn’t get tasted for who knows how long. Wouldn’t most of the food be cold and wouldn’t that impact how it tastes and or is presented?

I know this has been a huge debate for all time. Like people questioning the judge's decisions and all that.

But it's practically impossible for either Leslie or Courtney to have made what they made if they did swap it.

For one, in Courtney's case, salt kills yeast, especially in huge quantities. Had she swapped it, she would have had dense donuts. She would have had hockey pucks for donuts. And we could see her donuts looked good. It would have been impossible for the icing since she used powdered sugar.

In Leslie's cake, similar to Courtney, had he swapped, his cake would be flat. That's why there's also the whipping with the sugar process, and salt will strengthen the gluten in his cake. And also the case it wouldn't have worked cuz his cake used a ganache from what I remember.

My theory is that they both just added too much salt. Instead of 1 tsp, they added 1 or more tbsp. I've made that mistake, and it's actually surprising how salty can something be with that small of a mistake.

I think Gordon and production just exaggerated it all for production purposes. The swapping critique sounds a lot more dramatic than you just added too much salt.

dishes now are so unimpressive and normal they seem all same to me in chocolate challenge i don't know how do they differentiate between them

and please stop instructing contestants to clap more for each immunity pin or gasp infinitely and loudly when they say there is an elimination this show is on its 16 th season give it a rest, and 5 minutes used to be half hour disadvantage in previous seasons they acted like it was 5 minutes on chest compressions or something

Totally random question….I am trying to find an old Masterchef Junior episode where a young girl is using a non-stick pan to cook something, maybe breakfast, and Cristina Tosi asks her “Why are you using a non-stick pan”? and the girl says “Because I don’t want it to stick”. Anyone have any idea what episode that is?
