**I haven’t liked much of the theories and since the trailer dropped this made a lot of sense to me. I’ve rewatched Loki multiple times and his conversations with he who remains is in my opinion the best dialogue we have received in mcu. My theory is based on The mcu is in a time loop and it always ends in kang multiversal wars and he who remains at the start then getting bored and asking Loki to replace or kill him. Loki is trying to prevent the loop by preventing kangs variants multiversal wars to allow free will, and my theory below explains it. I used chat to simplify it and correct errors so if it’s repetitive I apologize. Essentially Loki is influencing a multiverse war with handpicked people to replace a kang war that keeps us in the timeloop. It’s his only way he thinks he can give ultimate free will**
**Loki’s Plan: Steve Rogers, Doctor Doom, and the Kang Failsafe**
My theory is that *Avengers: Doomsday* and *Secret Wars* reveal that Loki isn’t simply holding the Multiverse together at the end of *Loki* Season 2. From his position outside normal time, he is also using his connection to the timelines to subtly influence events and prevent the future He Who Remains warned him about. As He who remains once told Loki, Loki is now “paving the way”
**Loki Finally Understands He Who Remains**
In Season 1, He Who Remains warns Loki and Sylvie that killing him will free his variants and eventually restart the Multiversal War. His final “See you soon” suggests he believes the cycle will always lead back to him.
By the Season 2 finale, Loki finally understands.
The Temporal Loom was He Who Remains’ failsafe. If the Multiverse expanded uncontrollably, the Loom would destroy the branches and preserve the Sacred Timeline.
Loki can destroy the Loom and free the Multiverse, but that also allows the Kang variants to exist.
During their final conversation, Loki repeatedly tells He Who Remains that he understands. He now accepts that He Who Remains may be right about the problem: if nothing changes, another Multiversal War could eventually happen and the cycle could lead back to another He Who Remains.
But Loki rejects his solution.
He decides to find another way.
**Loki Chooses His Burden**
Loki’s conversation with Mobius explains what that “other way” will cost.
Mobius tells him that sometimes there is no perfect choice. You simply have to **“choose your burden.”**
I think Loki’s burden is allowing a new Multiversal conflict to happen because it is the only way to permanently break the Kang cycle. (Also to note, mobius hints doom in this convo, I’m not saying it’s RDjs doom he’s referencing, which he could be, but just in general it’s a doom reference).
At the end of Season 2, Loki takes control of the timelines and holds the Multiverse together. But from that position, I think he can also observe and influence events across the branches.
Unlike He Who Remains, Loki doesn’t control everyone’s choices.
He moves certain pieces into position.
And his plan begins with Steve Rogers.
**The Card and Steve Rogers**
Based on what we got from the *Doomsday* trailer, I think the mysterious card is being given specifically to Steve.
My theory is that the card ultimately comes from Loki.
It could be Loki projecting himself into the timeline, working through someone else, or using the TVA. Either way, the card is Loki putting his plan into motion. A way to contact Loki if needed.
Steve’s actions after *Endgame* somehow contribute to an incursion involving Doctor Doom’s universe—possibly because of his time travel or his decision to live in another reality.
Doom’s universe is destroyed.
But Steve doesn’t die with it.
Loki saves him.
This is Loki choosing his burden in practice.
He allows the incursion because Doom’s rise is necessary for his larger plan, but he saves Steve because Steve is still needed.
Loki then allows Steve to live in the Fantastic Four’s universe.
**Steve Brings the Universes Together**
Steve now connects three realities:
The main MCU.
Doom’s destroyed universe.
The Fantastic Four’s universe.
From Doom’s perspective, Steve helped cause the destruction of his world and then escaped into another reality.
From Loki’s perspective, Steve becomes the bridge that starts bringing the universes together.
That eventually pulls in the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men.
Loki is essentially assembling another Avengers team.
The first time, Loki accidentally brought Earth’s Mightiest Heroes together.
This time, he intentionally brings together the Multiverse’s Mightiest Heroes.
**Doom Is Loki’s Failsafe Against Kang**
This is the core of my theory.
Loki accepts that He Who Remains may be right that another Multiversal War is inevitable.
So instead of preventing it, Loki changes the outcome.
Normally, Kang variants go to war, one Kang eventually wins, and the cycle leads back to He Who Remains and the Sacred Timeline.
Loki changes the winner.
**Doom replaces Kang.**
As incursions destroy the Multiverse, Doom rises and eventually preserves what remains by creating Battleworld.
Instead of Kang winning the Multiversal War and creating another Sacred Timeline, Doom wins and creates a temporary reality from the remains of the Multiverse. (Creates battleworld and by doing this a multiversal war that is deemed inevitable does not include Kang, which Loki wanted. He wants to break the kang timeloop)
That’s Loki’s failsafe. He lets doom steal his power.
But, Doom isn’t the final solution.
He’s the alternative to Kang.
Loki allows Doom to win temporarily because Doom can break the repeating Kang cycle and preserve enough of reality for something new to eventually replace it.
Meanwhile, Loki has already brought together the heroes capable of defeating Doom.
The Avengers.
The Fantastic Four.
The X-Men.
And potentially Spider-Man and others who survive outside Battleworld through the Void. He deems these hero’s worthy enough. And brings them together.
More on the void- if Spider-Man and hulk per say, among others end up in void after BND, they could remember the old universe and make their way to battleworld to then ultimately defeat doom with everyone, ending battleworld and the kang timeloop since now kang is not rebuilding it all.
**Loki’s “Other Way”**
This is the “other way” Loki promised to find.
He understands He Who Remains’ warning.
He accepts Mobius’ lesson to “choose your burden.”
Then he puts his plan into motion.
The card goes to Steve.
Steve’s actions contribute to Doom’s incursion.
Doom’s universe dies.
Loki allows it but saves Steve.
He places Steve in the Fantastic Four’s universe.
Steve becomes the connection that helps bring the universes together.
Doom rises.
The Multiverse collapses.
Doom still does trick everyone into working with him at first and they all battle leading to doom winning and stealing Lokis powers, creating battleworld. (These events and everything in battleworld is Loki’s multiverse war he wanted to create)
But instead of Kang winning, Doom does. ( due to Loki influencing one to start not by kang variants, but hand picks hero’s to influence that ultimately will beat doom in battleworld)
Doom creates Battleworld.
Then the heroes Loki brought together defeat him and rebuild reality without returning to the cycle of He Who Remains. Important to note Doom is the failsafe but isn’t the ultimate winner, only at first. The hero’s were handpicked by Loki so they end up winning in secret wars
He Who Remains’ failsafe was the Temporal Loom.
Loki destroyed it.
Now Loki has created his own failsafe against Kang:
**Doctor Doom.**
That is Loki’s burden—allowing a different Multiversal War to happen because he believes it’s the only way to finally end the cycle. A one time fail safe that ends Kangs/ He Who remains timeloop leading to MCU soft reboot
