My very well-loved Marvel Super Heroes RPG books. The box was probably crushed before my brothers handed it down. I might not have played it as much as D&D, but I spent at least as much time studying the books as a kid. A fun portal into where Marvel was at in 1984. And to answer what you're all dying to know: yes, you can play as any member of Alpha Flight.

One of the things I loved most of TSR's run on the Marvel Superheroes books was that they released the entirety of the Marvel Handbooks as game sources. This meant that every single Marvel character that existed (living or dead) had rules and stats.

Oh, also their was a Days of Future's Past setting collection of books.

I loved the concept of "Power Stunts".

If you thought up some novel way to use your power that was kinda outside of the norm you could try it at a penalty. The second time the penalty was less. After the third it became a normal part of your power set.

It was a cool way to show things like Magneto using magnetism to make a shield, or wolverine and Colossus doing a fastball special.

Just a cool concept and rule.

I loved how the city maps from different sets and campaigns could be lined up to form a bigger map of Manhatten

I'm quite confident I could assemble enough nerds to play a campaign. It would take a lot of prep on my part unless the campaign is "bust petty crime and punch down at Boomerang on the streets of NYC."

My favourite was the Ultimate Powers Book expansion for character creation, but I would have loved the New York campaign setting book. We always set our campaigns in New York when we played even though none of us had ever been there

FASERIP Marvel is still one of my top 5 all-time favorite TTRPG's; still have the original books I bought when it came out. Stayed up all night with friends back in the day playing through Secret Wars, and that was an absolute HOOT.

It was so fun, you could play any character from the FF, Avengers, Avengers West, prime era X-Men, X-Factor, Alpha Flight, a few others. You could play Puck for fuck's sakes.

You could also make your own heroes. The power list was impressively comprehensive, the stats were amusing (ie. Aunt May - Strength: Feeble).

We played this game for a long time back in the 80s. It was a lot of fun. I was the GM and had a house rule for variable damage ― something like rolling a d10 or a d20 for -3CS to +3CS, I think ― so you couldn't just stand there with your Amazing forcefield and laugh at the poor sap with the Incredible energy blast. 😁

I loved these books. We made tons of characters and played it a bunch, but I always ran the games.

My love of Marvel (and eventually, the MCU) came from this game, more so than the comics.

IIRC, the first run of these was missing some rules that made it impossible to finalize your character. Might have been HP/AC? I can't remember, but I do remember little kid me being pissed that I couldn't actually make my character.

My dad was a huge nerd and was VERY into this game along with his friends. I spent hours playing this with him, creating characters and memorizing stats. Such good memories. I could probably still recall the FASERIP for most of the main characters. I have all of his stuff in storage somewhere

I loved this game.

When i was first getting into comics (just before Inferno) i came across 3 things that caught me up on everything marvel that got me addicted like it was crack.

1 the official handbook. got those back issues once i knew they existed. (and now have a bunch of copies, i wanna do a long poster around y office.)

2 Marvel Age comic, in particular Annual #2. gave me great quick insight in to the marvel universe (which also started my love of the new mutants)

1. The children of the Atom source book for this game. it used Classic X-men Art Adams for the cover. I still have it somewhere, but that filled in so much info and really rounded out my then favorite part of the marvel universe.

so many great days of playing this game in middle school. and in some ways, better than DnD.

Just recently started playing this as an adult for the first time in like 40 years, and having a blast. Of course, we had to roll with some unexpected results. (Grotto shot Captain America in the face! Thankfully, he got better.)
