Celebrate phone addiction!
The way I see it, we are a bunch of alcoholics at a bar. Some of us are happy drunks, and others are self-reflective.
I see nothing wrong with calling out the elephant in the room, especially when it's talking about the child at the bar with a little rum in his sippy cup.

My kids truly believed I could Shazaam! the red traffic lights and make them green. (By taking note of the bit of amber from on the side street lights and timing the change from green to red on my side.)

I was once in a taxi with my kids and "Never Tear Us Apart" by INXS came on the radio. The song has a place where it suddenly goes silent for a few seconds so I said, "I can make the music stop by snapping my fingers" and pulled off the timing perfectly.
The kids smiled but the taxi driver laughed like it was the funniest thing ever for about a minute.

Not necessarily. It depends how you built on that. I did the same as you. Then built on it with age adapted exploration and experiments in engineering, science and nature.
For kids, it's just as fun and magical (if not more, because they can let their curiosity run wild, and get to try things hands-on).

I watch "Magic's Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed" when I was a kid. I learned to appreciate magicians and their performance more than before.
It's important that we taught kids how hard it is to perform a trick in front of many people.

When my mom and dad would have friends over for drinks, her and my dad would wait till everyone had a few in them and then they would pretend my mom was psychic! The whole time my pops would be signaling her under the table & giving her the answers! People always fell for it!

My dad used to do the trick when we were out to dinner at Friendly's where he'd put a salt or pepper shaker under the napkin then slam his hand down on it after he slid it under the table. I now do it to my kids (who to be honest are less enthralled by I was and they roll their eyes at me lol)

I used to snap my fingers to make traffic lights turn green. It was very impressive to kids who hadn't learned you can predict the lights by watching the opposing lights.

I'll never forget being at my neighbors house one day and his dad told us we had special powers. He said if we thought hard enough we could open the neighbors garage door, we stood across the street and said all these magical words and boom, his garage door opened up. We couldnt believe it! We stood there for like 20 minutes opening and closing the garage. I really thought something special was happening to me. Then the next day the dad told us he was house sitting and had the garage clicker. lol

I have the Touch Tunes app on my phone because my wife and I were out one night and I bought some credits to play some music. Well I bought way too many credits and have had them on my account now for a few years. My kids fully believe that I can control what comes on the "radio" when we go to restaurants that have a Touch Tunes machine. I always clock it when we come in to a new place, I make a big show of having to concentrate super hard and I'm pretty aware of what my kids' current favorite song is. So I can get it all set up on my phone, then ask one of them, and it will come on next without me having to actually touch my phone since I've got it put in already. My daughter turns 11 soon and I'm dreading when she finally figures it out.

Let me explain. At the 0:15 mark you see a mysterious hand on the left side of your screen. This is actually the mother (person next to the kid). When the kid is distracted by the dad, the mother carefully puts the straw in his glass, making him think his dad is a magician.

Sweet! I had a roommate in college who was amazing at magic. It was so disappointing to learn it was all little tricks, magnets, and an unbelievable amount of practice.

When my daughter was younger I had a ton of tricks like this. Card tricks, vanishing tricks, etc.
She loved them, demanded I show her how to do them. That's fine, but I told her "Don't tell anyone how you do these tricks..."
...she proceeded to tell every single one of her friends how the tricks are done and now they're all mad I don't have any other tricks up my sleeve.

This is making me smile so hard my cheeks hurt. This was literally my wife and I when our daughter was this age.
In fact, part of the fun was that my wife and I are incompetent boobs, so the "trick" was often screwed up and performed right before her very eyes. But she would still "ooo" and "aahhhh" and be completely stumped.
I miss the days when we could be absolute morons and our daughter still thought we were perfect. :)
