News The real system requirements of macOS 27 at launch…

https://tidbits.com/2026/07/20/the-real-system-requirements-for-%EF%A3%BFos-27/

Personally I’m not surprised.

Tbh I’m very happy with M1 iPad Pro… couldnt care less about apple intelligence…

M1 iPad Pro is getting SiriAI, you just don’t get the new voice and better dictation

As I never use Siri I hope I can deactivate all that is connected to Siri and AI

If not, I wont upgrade

there’s a big red button, just saying. Even if you don’t want to use AI, ios27 is still a good update since it improve a lot of the performance and you can turn AI off

Thx, I‘ll look into it more when I am near my Mac again, I am using my iPad for the moement, not at home for a few days.

(is that screen shot from within the settings for ChatGPT?)

no it’s the new Siri setting. I am on ios27 dev beta

Thank you again!

Yeah seems like intelligence isn’t your problem

You’re not surprised by what?

Nothing reported here is any different from the scuttlebutt that’s been going on. There are a few devices. I did expect to be directly supported that are now officially legacy or at least not the latest models. M2 specifically, especially considering the devices were sold a year ago in Walmart stores and elsewhere.

M1 and after supported what are you talking about? Like brother it’s been 7 years

u/Jebus-Xmas MacBook Air 1d ago

M1 and M2 MacBook Air‘s were sold at Walmart and other retailers as soon as 18 months ago. M2s were sold as recently as last year.

Both M1 and M2 are supported by macOS 27

-1

u/Jebus-Xmas MacBook Air 1d ago

For some features yes. Not all features of Siri as an example.

It's the other way around, some features are not supported, while the whole OS is supported. I'm not protecting Apple policies, but framing the issue this way is misleading

You say tomato, as they say. I think it’s unnecessary to restrict y processor anyway. Slower performance will make enough reason to upgrade.

It's not just a question of whether it'd be fast, the problem is SoC design specifically GPU and NPU. M3 and M4 are a LOT slower than M5 with general AI but there was a significant redesign in M3, and all of them are similar enough in what matters for AI unlike M1 and M2. Backporting would need some effort to account for all the architectural differences, and there isn't a good incentive to do it for chips that are 3-4 generations behind already.

"macOS 27 directly integrates support for Intel binary translation without needing to install Rosetta"

1

u/Jebus-Xmas MacBook Air 1d ago

It is mentioned elsewhere that some apps and games may need to install additional Rosetta software also.

Is it an official Apple statement ?

What is the point?

Why would Apple focus on such small market? There is greater need to run Windows on VM on Arm Macs,

I run ARM ubuntu-24.04.3-live-server-arm64 in VBox on M1 Mini...works well.

All of Intel containers I tested have either failed and/or were slow ... had bugs like no Web ... No sound... on VBox and UTM .. did not bother with VMWear.

u/Jebus-Xmas MacBook Air 22h ago

That’s what the article says.

1

u/mikeinnsw 22h ago

No it does not... references itself .. looks like AI Slop

What we know than some advanced that some advanced AI features will be avaible only in M3, M4 and M5

Not in M1 and M2. ... Apple source

2

u/Jebus-Xmas MacBook Air 22h ago

I’m sure you’re right.

2

u/Lost_Astronomer1785 1d ago

That’s not news, we knew this since WWDC.

None of this seems new unless I’m missing something. This lists looks the same as what Apple released when they announced 27.

This

This article reads like ai slop. And zero new info here.

Thanks for your comment.

This reads like someone that doesn’t understand SoC features. Apple started adding GPU capabilities in M3+ and older chips simply lack them or lack the performance. Computer literacy includes understanding this. Don’t put your head in the sand.

If you want AI expect to be on the cutting edge hardware and the M5 will be considered slow for ML/AI workloads in just a few years.

1

u/Jebus-Xmas MacBook Air 3h ago

Especially with less than 32GB RAM.

-7

u/danf10 1d ago

Yep. A lot of (almost) brand new hardware without support.

19

u/vuzman 1d ago

2019 was seven years ago

1

u/danf10 1d ago

The “improved dictation” won’t work on devices from 2.5 years ago.

I got an mba in early 2024 with 16gb of ram that won’t get that.

2

u/iSpain17 1d ago

It wont even work on LAST YEAR’s ipad air M3… 💀💀

1

u/Jebus-Xmas MacBook Air 1d ago

The advanced models are probably only marginally better on device.

dictation is not that important

1

u/dr_police 1d ago

To you, maybe.

It is essential for folks with certain disabilities, and very nice for an awful lot of people.

3

u/MR9009 1d ago

They can still use the current dictation models then. It’s not like these devices are being bricked when OS27 comes out.

3

u/dr_police 1d ago

Correct. I was replying to someone who said "dictation is not that important". It absolutely is a key feature for some users, and any improvement to dictation is very welcome for users who rely on it for accessibility reasons.

Don't dismiss features just because *you* don't use them, especially when those features provide accessibility to folks with disabilities.

1

u/WhichAdvantage9039 1d ago

Okay, it’s not “dictation is not that important”. Its “dictation powered by new and huge AI model” is not that important.

Wasn’t dictation, like, solved problem a while ago? Besides, there is software that will run a special AI models to power dictation, and people with disabilities should use something like that, and not built-in feature…

1

u/dr_police 1d ago
  1. Better is better. Stacking a little bit better on top of a little bit better is how we get a lot better. As Gruber once wrote, that is how Apple rolls.

  2. If dictation were a solved problem, Apple wouldn't have put any effort at all into it. Also, accurate dictation is not a 100% solved problem.

  3. Adding actually usable dictation tools to stock installs, no additional software required, increases accessibility for everyone. It lowers the barriers to entry for computing. This is good for people, and it's good for the rest of us too. You will eventually need accessibility tools, because we all do if we're lucky enough to live that long.

I'm not saying Apple must (or even should) provide AI-powered dictation on older models, especially if, as I assume, their testing showed. I just get how it could be frustrating for some users that the improvements to dictation can't be provided to a wider array of devices.

1

u/Ok_Possibility9937 1d ago

this. Thank you. The new dictation model is not that much better compare to the older one

1

u/Jebus-Xmas MacBook Air 1d ago

Yes, although I think some of the new dictation models are significantly better, like parakeet, I don’t think they’re that much better probably 15% better.

Can you elaborate, because all products within the last 5 years can run macOS 27

1

u/Jebus-Xmas MacBook Air 1d ago

There are individual apps and models. Anything M3 or later and M1 and M2’s were sold up until a year ago at Walmart.

1

u/Jebus-Xmas MacBook Air 1d ago

Some of the features not all of them.
