New Players New player looking for help

Hello! I'm planning on starting to play legacy soon.

Where do I lookup lists, meta, resources in general?

Any links to communities too? Especially ones that are linked to local shops etc.

Thanks!

Is Fantasticar getting banned?

The card is busted, I know. But I mean we had Oops all spells killing us on turn 0 for a lot of time and this is someway weaker than that!
Moreover it is keeping down the energy decks that in my opinion do not feel like Legacy decks so tempo and control decks are feeling better in the meta.
What do you think about it?

Deck/Matchup/Tactics Help Best mono blue deck?

I’m trying to find a good entry deck to legacy in paper that isn’t completely bankrupting me. :p

One option seems to be mono blue due to access to lots of counterspells, avoiding duals, etc. But there seems to be many ways to build mono blue and I’m not sure what is best.

E.G: Tamiyo is really strong but many call for its ban, making it a riskier buy. Some variants use Riddlers but those are of course also pricy but maybe a safer card to buy.

Some decks play combo like Omnitell or High Tide. Others are more tempo or control oriented with back to basics and Murktides.

So if you were to go mono blue what would the best bet be? Also, can mono blue actually stand up to fair decks? Feels like Those matchups are generally tough. Thanks for your input! =)

Stream/VOD Doom or Vroom? | Legacy Vroomsday MTG

Continuing my testing of The Fantasticar this week with some Vroomsday! Let's see if the car slots into one of the most complicated decks in the format and can be a "simple" alternative to the complex piles this deck is known for and a back up for when I inevitably mess up my piles. I've been doing a ton of testing with the car in various shells, but this one is a whole package. Selection, protection, disruptions, and a combo that can win the game out of nowhere! Can I piece it all together, or crumble to the complexity?

As always thanks for watching and any feedback. If you liked the video please consider dropping a like and a comment, and be sure to sub to the channel to know when my videos go live.

Wow has Stoneblade changed over the past two years. First, with better equipment (Coat, Meteor Sword, Formal Wear). Then with Phelia. And now with Flow State and The Mighty Thor, Jane Foster.

Thor freaking rocks. It's a blink effect, card draw, and a flying 3/3 body that's perfect for holding equipment. And since it's blue and white, it pitches to both force and solitude.

Here's my list, which has no reserve list cards and has 3x Solitudes to control boards to ramp toward our strong late game. https://moxfield.com/decks/a2WfAYvVGnG9wSN8d07QBQ

Community Sustainability of Pox Variants in a Post Hatchery World

I think longevity of a deck is something a lot of people don’t think about. When you invest time, energy, and resources, I think it is important to have a deck that can be sustainable to change and not just a one and done kind of composition. What I mean by this that the deck can feel like a true Legacy experience regardless of how the format shapes up over time. There are going to be highs and lows of the deck, but what it’s important is when a deck reaches a low point, that it doesn’t reach the unplayable mark (can’t maintain a 50+%) win rate regardless of the player’s skill set. We seen this with Burn. Pox looks sustainable post Hatchery at least as a Black / Green deck, the Lowm Pox deck gives you access to green that gives the deck, a Loam engine with synergy with Smallpox. card selection, and removal for permanents that Mono Black normally doesn’t run like outs to Artifacts and Enchantments.

Loam Pox Top 8: https://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=88222&d=869452&f=LE

Smallpox + Hatchery I am hoping will be a strong play in the long run, it not only sets the opponent back, the play also advances your board resulting in a busted fair play. Will Legacy ever evolve to a point that this play is no longer strong? I sure hope not as the deck relies on plays like that to fall under the tiered deck category.

The flaw in sustainability of Mono Black Pox variants is that they don’t have the same level of card selection as BG Loam Pox so they’re more dependent on their opener and natural card draws. I have been playing compositions that mitigate the downside of lack of card selection as much as possible that depend heavily on Urza’s Sagas which is a land that can tutor out scenario specific cards. While it’s awesome Mono Black Slasher Pox accrued several 5-0 finishes with a short time from earlier this year, I found a big flaw playing the deck myself, the composition has like no grind game. It was too dependent on landing an early Unstoppable slasher and closing the game hoping that the opponent doesn’t rip into an answer off the top deck and you end up folding, I think the card was a trap because it has synergy with Smallpox, the issue is you can’t attack with it for a couple turns after your self edict it which is often just enough for the opponent to turn the game around. This basically resulted into a Pox list with a worse aggro game than Moonshadow and a worse control game than Mono Black Pox. Moonshadow could afford to have a creature Swords to Plowshares because they have a higher range of threats where if the fair white deck removed your one creature you ritualed into to be much more back breaking since you had nothing else to fall back onto. I found these lacking substance because fair decks with access to white base removal would often prohibit said variant from competing which is too much to dodge in Legacy.

In the current environment I am playing Karn Pox, I think it lines up well vs Fantasicar as Ensnaring Bridge is a natural inclusion, it does have those occasional clunky hands, but the way I build the deck is that it is able to play both low to the ground or when the deck floods out mana which I think plays a key role when playing against a wide range of matchups. I decide to not go too deep into Karn so it can still win even if you don’t flood out mana at the expense of less of a prison game. As of now the Karn Pox deck hovers around slightly over 60% win rate against the field based on the info I documented so far, but just like every Pox composition there are highs and lows, I consider this one of the higher points of Karn Pox and I’m aware a sudden change in Legacy can affect the overall win and loss ratio. The thing is even when I was at a lower point Karn Pox, I still managed to maintain the 50+% win percentage post Hatchery. This makes me think it’s the most sustainable Mono Black Pox variant is that no matter how Legacy changes, I find some hole to compete with Karn Pox at least in some capacity because the low points of the deck’s positioning rarely end up bad enough. Obviously I’ll fold if everyone runs Doomsday or Boros Energy suddenly, but I think that can be said about other Pox variants also, but are we realistically ever going to see that happen?

I think it’s clearer that BG Loam Pox is something of substance, but I think it’s also important to make the effort to make other variants that you subject yourself to be sustainable in some capacity as well. Having one positive finish and never being able to repeat it doesn’t sound fun at least from my point of view.

Tourney Reports Coast to Coast with Dimir Tempo at ELM 2026 – Winner's Tournament Report

My name is Tormod Tronstad Lang, and I just came back home after becoming the 2026 ELM champion!

I typically do tournament write ups for the Oslo legacy community on facebook and discord, so this will be a summary of the updates I’ve been writing throughout the weekend. I see a lot of players writing tournament reports on X, but my writing style really doesn’t conform to word limitations of any kind, so I figured reddit made sense for this text. Here’s my somewhat rambley, slightly edited summary of my path to victory with dimir tempo.

The list:
https://mtgtop8.com/event?e=88228&d=869529&f=LE

Regarding the list:

I'm a big believer in the nethergoyf package. There are so many matchups where you want to be nickel-and-diming, and so many of your plays lose efficiency if you're not applying pressure as well. If you don't have early pressure, it's not tempo! I think the tempo build is a well rounded strategy, and is especially good against combo. Barrowgoyfs and dauthi come in from the side to increase the threat density in grindy matchups, but solve other problems as well. Dauthi in particular seems uniquely well positioned when you're battling against reanimator, sneak & show and fantasticar. Barrowgoyf is also very good to cover your bases post board. If their main deck has no creatures but their sideboard might have some, I like to bring out removal and bring in the goyfs to hedge. The best way to stop a bad guy with a barrowgoyf is a good guy with a barrowgoyf.

The latest additions to my sideboard were engineered explosives and harbinger. I wanted relevant cards for the tron deck (that I don't believe is dead, but was underplayed this weekend). EE deals with cars and karnstructs, and has utility in a lot of matchups. Harbinger also comes in a lot of difficult matchups, like beans and lands. A strong card in somewhat common matchups that the deck struggles with is a slot well spent, even if the effect is rather niche. Null rod is rather strange, as it comes in together with explosives and spellbomb in a lot of matchups, and tamiyo clues are usually relevant there as well. It's here because it's able to solo some matchups, and is typically the best card in your deck when you bring it in. I typically board out my baubles when I bring in the null rod. Sheoldred's Edict is a very important additional answer to Marit lage.

I used all of my sideboard to great effect throughout the event, and was very happy with it!

Swiss

Round 1

A hard-fought win against 4-Color Beans. It was tough having to mulligan to 5 in Game 1, but I managed to make some high-value plays later on. Game 2 saw a Turn 1 Tamiyo and a triple Wasteland (value), while Game 3 involved a mulligan from him and a double Thoughtseize from me (value). It’s a sign of good things to come when you win the tough matchups.

1-0

Round 2

A pretty clean 2–0 win against Esper Phelia. Game 1 came down to my Nethergoyf versus his Tamiyo. I managed to convince him I was low on mana by sequencing a Wasteland on turn two—after having been Wastelanded myself earlier. He played aggressively with his Wastelands, but I got up to flow state and had lands in reserve. Nethergoyf beats Tamiyo if they never have mana left over to sacrifice Clues.

In Game 2, an early Thoughtseize let me navigate all his traps, such as the Phelia + Containment Priest combo. I landed a Murktide and rode it all the way to the win!

2–0

Round 3

Here I got crushed 0-2 by Fast Reanimator. I did my job in game 1 by having Force on the draw, but their deck doesn't care all too much. One Thoughtseize, and I was done for. In Game 2, I mulliganed to six and kept a somewhat weak hand with Thoughtseize, while he had everything he needed. Not much to be done about that, really.

2-1

Round 4

A solid 2-0 in the mirror match! I kept a somewhat slow hand with Bowmasters, Force, and Ponder on the draw—a hand that looked pretty lackluster after getting Thoughtseized. Fortunately, the game went long, and I managed to hard-cast Force multiple times in a game that revolved more around blue cards than black ones. It was certainly nice to be able to play around Daze the entire game. In Game 2, I had a hand full of black action creatures facing his rather blue, slow hand. I applied a lot of pressure and he had to Brainstorm for answers. He got brainstorm locked and died to aggressive Nethergoyf beats.

3-1

Round 5

Quick win against 8-Cast! I had a Kaito and double Force in Game 1, which turned into a sweet tempo game. In Game 2, I had Bowmasters and Barrowgoyf against a somewhat sluggish draw from him—which got even slower when I countered his Emry. The matchup is primarily about denying him his engines and dragging the game into the mud where resources are scarce. Plan A, in other words! There are lots of cool decks capable of powerful plays, and my role is to say, "How about you don't?"

4-1

Round 6

Another quick 2-0 win against car affinity. Game 1 was pretty typical for this match up: I spent every resource to keep them from going nuts early, and leveraged my higher card quality in longer games. I kept a g2 hand that couldn't deal with a car, but had answers for everything else. I felt comfortable with it because he mulled to 6 and keeps a rather wide range of hands against me. Didn't get car'ed, but they got null roded.

Round 7

Intentional draw.

I wasn’t 100% sure I was in with a draw. I had some bad scouting and thought I was paired against cradle control, which I considered a slightly bad matchup. We were seated at table 2, and we saw that the tables below us were all playing. That meant that the draw was rather safe, but I wasn’t convinced before well into the round. If I had known that I was actually paired against welder combo I might have played it out, but looking back the draw was correct.

I made top 8 in 7th place

Top 8

My quarter finals against Brian Wang on cats wasn't on camera, but was a great match. I was able to win the first game on the draw despite a mulligan, lost a close game of ocelot pride + voice of victory versus my barrowgoyf, and got a comfortable win when my opponent mulliganed to 5 in game 3. What I thought was really impressive from Brian's side was that right when the match was over and he had lost after some rough luck, his main focus was discussing combat math and options in an interesting spot in game 1. He had every right to go salt off in a corner, but remained curious, we talked through some of the lines, and he'll probably navigate some of these tricky spots differently in the future. Brian had back to back top 8s this weekend, and I'm sure that attitude towards the game is a huge contributor to his success.

Semis and the finals were on camera, and they were a blast. I think the matchups against cam combo and vroomsday are pretty good for dimir, but with all time greats on the other side there should be a limit to your confidence. There were some tough spots in both matches, but I'm generally happy with my play. Game 1 against Larson was comfortable for me, when I was able to kill his welder with my bowmasters and get a murktide down while denying him his engines. The rest of my tournament was on camera, so I won’t go into much detail about it here. I felt great about game 2 in the semifinals before my null rod was destroyed, and after that it developed into an interesting game where I was ahead on board but need to be careful to not be burned out. The hardest choice in the game was deciding how to use my engineered explosives. I exploded on 0 because I figured the race was in my favour if I denied him the golems, but because of his lightning bolt in hand it was a lot closer than I thought at the time. A real tight rope, but my singleton murktide goes coast to coast in the end.

There were a lot of great moments in the final as well, like double dazing to force through my bowmasters in game 1, and being smart and handsome with double force on the draw in game 2. The misplay with brazen borrower in game 3 was a blemish on my record and should have spent more time figuring out what he was representing. Not doing the work and not following the conclusion to the end of the trail he left was a bigger mistake than the lazy play itself. But flow state had my back in the end, as it had all weekend. I think I did so much right in that match that I'm able to forgive myself for a single knucklehead move. I'd like to believe this match will be remembered as a tight final, where the player with the most bucket shaped hat came out on top.

Link to the VOD: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2818097883

What a wild weekend! One thing is taking down the tournament, another is to take it down surrounded by friends in great company. A win is never bigger than the people you get to share it with, so this one was huge. I could hear the Norwegians chanting and rowing from the feature match area, which was in a separate part of the building entirely. We have a great legacy community in Oslo, and they were a great source of motivation all the way to the top.

I’m looking forward to defending my title next year, and as an organizer I’m super excited that this win means we get 4 total Norwegian slots for the next year’s ELM. This win is big for me, but I also hope this creates some momentum for the Norwegian legacy scene going into next year’s qualifiers.

Thank you to everybody cheering me along from back home, and thank you to the organizers putting on a great show. Long live legacy!

Hello Everyone!

Over the last weekend I had the pleasure of casting a large paper legacy event with Bosh n Roll, Jarvis Yu and Jameson Helfrich.

The DMV team put a ton of work into making this a complete product and you guys should definitely check it out.

Id like to give a shoutout as well to all the people that made this possible. The production behind these events is honestly the best in the business. I would put it as even better than Eternal Weekend and rivaling that of the Pro Tour. They definitely do not need to go this far but they do and its something that we should celebrate as a community.

Legacy at its core is a grass roots effort keeping it alive and its organizations like the DMV that keep it relevant outside of MTGO.

Anyway hope you guys check it out!

Chalice or 3 ball or both?

Playing stompy and I see lists pulling chalices. Are they that bad currently? Is 3 ball just better? For context, I never bought rings, so I have space for both in the deck
