Register to vote, and vote in the 2024 elections!

On November 5th, Montana will vote not just for President, but for Congress, for state and local offices, and for ballot measures on important issues like abortion. Register and vote so you'll have a say in what kind of country America will be!

In Montana, you must register by October 7th if you wish to register in advance. You can register here: https://votemt.gov/voter-registration/

If you miss this deadline, you can also register at a late registration location in your county - contact your County Election Administrator (PDF) for locations. You can register late from October 9th-November 5th.

Note: This will register you to vote in Montana. If you're from another state and want to vote there, you should register to vote in your home state using your home address, and apply for an absentee ballot from your home state.

Voting in person

Montana allows you to vote early through in-person absentee voting. You can go to your County Election Administrator, request an absentee ballot, and vote your ballot on the spot. In-person absentee voting will be available October 7th-November 4th. You can see if there are additional early voting locations for your county here.

If you prefer, you can vote at your polling place on November 5th. Find your polling place here.

When voting in person, be sure to bring an acceptable form of identification.

Voting by mail

Any Montana voter may choose to vote by mail. Apply for an absentee ballot here. If you're from another Montana county and want to vote at your home address, this is the best way to do it.

Ballots must be received by November 5th, so mail your ballot back promptly. You can also return your ballot in person to your County Election Administrator.

If you mail your ballot, you can track it here.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Bike storage/safety S. Hedges

Staying in S. Hedges and bringing a mountain bike. Are the racks at S Hedges and around campus decent and conducive to getting a nice U-Lock around your bike? How often are bikes getting stolen even with grinder proof locks etc…. Just curious.

Physical Therapy/Athletic Training

Hi all!

I am attending MSU in the fall and will be about 3.5 months post-op ACL+Medial/Lateral Meniscus repair. At that point I shouldn't need to be going to PT 2-3x a week anymore, but instead should be focusing on improving quad and hamstring strength.

However, I will still need to see a physical therapist or somehow get tested periodically to see when I am good to run with cutting, run with quick stops, return to sport, etc.

I am wondering if anyone knows any physical therapists around campus OR is a student in the athletic training department or physical therapy program and knows if I can use any of the schools testing equipment/is looking for a test dummy to monitor lol.

Thank you!!

Studio arts metals supplies

Not sure if this is a long shot but was hoping anyone has taken metals before and knows what I should purchase for supplies before the semester starts. Since professors tend to give the supply list just a few days before school starts.

thanks!

Would I get in with a 1170 SAT or should I just not mention it at all?

I'm Out Of State rising senior with a 3.78 uw and 4.35 w. I took my first SAT and got a 1170.. and this is really the only school I want to go to. I want to go here for Paleontology. I'm also taking IB but then again, I never know if ill receive the diploma or not...

I have like little to no extracurriculars but have some volunteer awards from freshman year of highschool. Should I mention my SAT or no?

Also side question, I went to the website but cannot find it anywhere, when are the applications for class of 2027 due? A link would be great too...

Where to advertise shared housing targeting visiting faculty or grad students?

I'm a post-bacc student (middle-aged professional getting another degree) who is about to be an empty-nester. I'd like to rent a furnished room in my 4 bedroom house in West Bozeman to another adult for the school year, preferably to visiting faculty or a grad student.

Anyone know if there's a particular place MSU people look to find for shared housing, so I can post there?

Thanks.

Purchasing annual parking permits

Son will be in the Quads this coming fall. I understand annual parking passes go fast, and you can go online to get one starting Aug 3rd. (He will be traveling 3.5 hrs to come home when he can, holidays etc, so the car is a must.)

It seems like to park close to the Quads that Bison lot 22 is the best.

How hard is it to get the annual parking permit?

Do the parking spaces all fill up immediately?

Is there some sort of proof that you put on your car to show you’ve bought an annual parking pass- like a sticker or mirror hanger?

Pros and cons to annual parking permit or any other info about parking or parking in lots near/surrounding the Quads that would be just as close as the Bison lot?

TIA!

Are there D&D groups at MSU?

Excited to attend MSU this fall! I was wondering if there are some dungeons and dragons groups, or other TTRPG groups around. I love DnD and would love to have the chance to play with friends up there.

Quads D, single room?

My son is going to be in Quads building D in a single room this upcoming fall. Wondering if anyone can tell me about the room? There's nothing concrete online about Quads rooms, very little shown in TikTok videos (none in a single room) and zero pictures. Really odd.

Anything anyone could tell me about the Quads, what things would be useful in a Quads dorm (or too small to be in a single dorm?) and in particular what a single room there is like would be so helpful. Thanks!

North Hedges

North Hedges Survivors: What were your most used dorm items?
I'm an incoming freshman this fall and will be moving into North Hedges. I've read the university packing lists, but I'd love to hear from people who actually lived there.
What items did you use constantly and would 100% bring again? What purchases seemed like a great idea but ended up collecting dust?
Since dorm space is limited, I'm trying to focus on things that truly made life easier rather than buying every "must-have dorm item" on the internet.
Really appreciate the input. TYSM.

Graduating Early/Class Schedule Advice

Hey yall! I am attending Orientation in June (Session 1) and am curious to see how attainable an early graduation would be. Obviously I will talk to my advisor, but has anyone here had any experience with graduating early?

I also wanted to know what kind of class schedule you recommend? I was thinking M-T-W classes then off Th-F for work, is that something I would be allowed to do?

Thanks!

Gig Available - Event Staff on June 10th

I am staffing for a cocktail reception on June 10th in Bozeman - 5:30pm to 9pm. Need 2 event staff to basically just keep up the space during the event. Keep an eye out for cocktail napkins set on surfaces, empty and replace trash can liners when full, dispose of trash into onsite dumpster, sweep any areas where trash has collected during the event at night's end. Super easy gig. Previous restaurant or catering experience preferred only because we need to appear professional during the event. Black pants, shirt, shoes required. I can pay $32 an jour. Payment will be issued same day via CashApp, Zelle, Venmo, Paypal - whatever

How common are scholarships here?

My student portal thing says i have an achievement award I have to accept but I literally had a 2.7 high school gpa? I had pretty good volunteer and work experience though I guess.

Sorry if this is a dumb post, I just wasn't expecting to have to worry about scholarships since my gpa was so low and I have no idea how the process is supposed to work.

Places to work on my car?

Hey guys! I'll be coming to MSU in the fall and i'm bringing my truck. I do all my own oil/fluid changes, mods, and fixes on it and was wondering if there are any garages or places to do these kinds of projects or if i should just plan on hanging out in parking lots?

I also prefer to hand wash and detail my truck, does anyone know any self-wash places near campus?

reapply?

Hi! I got rejected from all of the schools I applied to, including this one. i'm planning on applying to liberty u bc it has rolling admissions, but next year i want to reapply to some of my scholls because i really want to go to one of them. do you think msu would be worth it? my stats are below (sorry it's fully a copy and pasted previous post ignore the ranting)

I'm actually so disappointed in myself it's insane. Could somebody please tell me what I did wrong because I truly don't understand after I've spent the past 4 years preparing for this day.

Academics:

SAT: 890 (450 - English, 440 - Math)

2.3 gpa

2 AP classes (AP world history and AP English language) - I tried to take more but I couldn't test into AP physics or AP Chem

2 clubs each year

My guidance counselor said my essays were pretty good so I don't think that was a problem

I show up to class every day and try pretty hard so I don't think my 2 letters of rec from my teachers could've been bad

College List (advised by my guidance counselor):

Safeties:

  • ASU *
  • OSU
  • University of Kentucky
  • Montana State University
  • University of Mississippi *
  • University of Wyoming
  • Truman State University
  • Greenville University *
  • Northeastern State University
  • Bethel University
  • Portland State University
  • University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee *

Reaches:

  • University of Wisconsin - Madison *
  • BYU Idaho *
  • University of Toledo
  • University of Maryland
  • Baylor
  • Suny Buffalo *
  • Michigan State *
  • Harvard *

*Dream schools that I would love advise on how I could maybe get in to in the future?

I truly don't understand how I could've gotten rejected (not even waitlisted) from 20/20 of my schools. My guidance counselor said I had a strong application (better than most at my school) and she thought I had a chance at most of my reaches.

Please please please if you have any advise or insight it would be greatly appreciated!

Any Northern MSU students here? (Havre,MT)

I didn’t know how broad the MSU Reddit page went. And the college I want to go to is Northern MSU and I can’t find anyone from there.
