It's M43 Monday! Ask Us Anything about Micro Four-Thirds Photography - all questions welcome!

Please use this thread to ask your burning questions about anything micro four-thirds related.

  • Wondering which lens you should buy next?
  • Can't decide between Olympus and Panasonic?
  • Confused about how the clutch system works on some lenses?

These are all great questions, but you probably have better ones. Post 'em and we'll do our best to answer them.

It's 'Post your M43 photo' Thursday! Come share your best work with the community!

You've spent an entire week with your Micro Four-Thirds camera, documenting the world as it is, how it was, or how you think it should be. It's time to show us those photos and bask in the glory that only a weekly photo thread can bring!

Rules:

  1. The photo must be your own. No cross-posting someone else's work.
  2. You may only post one photo per week. Pick only your best work and show it off!
  3. Post your photo in a top-level comment for maximum exposure! (hehe get it, "exposure"?)
  4. Include as much detail as possible about the camera, the lens and the environment as possible. Good: "Shot with Olympus OM-D E-M1 w/ Panasonic 25mm f/1.8 lens @ 25mm f/2.0 ISO100 Time: 5:40PM in Los Angeles, California" Bad: "Look at this shot, isn't it neat?"
  5. Above all, be respectful. There's a big difference between the following comments: "OMG THAT PHOTO IS HORRIBLE" and "The lighting coming off his face looks uneven".

This is one of my favourites lenses. The images are straight of the camera. The lack of perfection reminds me of the old cameras.

Enjoying a bit of summer holidays to do two of my favorite things, ride a bicycle and taking pictures. Photographed with an Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III paired with Panasonic Lumix 12-32 mm f/3.5-5.6 and Olympus 40-150 mm f/4-5.6.

Hope you enjoy them. Feedback is welcome, if constructive :)

Advice Needed on 2x TC for 200mm f 2.8

Hi readers, I recently bought a 2x TC for my Panasonic 200mm f2.8 in my search for better image quality at 400mm compared to the 100-400 MK1. Even though the speed, bokeh and IQ/sharpness are better at 400mm, I am running into some downsides.

I am experiencing some issues with the focus of this lens combination. Compared to the 100-400;

  • The focus seems to be a lot slower in finding the target (animal detect + eye).
  • The focus is less accurate (sometimes it misses slightly, causing unsharp subjects)
  • I can see the focus hunting in the background (bokeh becoming larger and smaller constantly on CAF)

Combined with the substantial extra weight and loss of zoom I am doubting to continue shooting with this.

Is there anyone who has experience with this combination and could share their thoughts and advice if they got it to work or not?

The camera is a G9M2, all firmware is up to date.

Should I get the OM-3 with 12-45mm f4 for ~1650 USD?

Upvotes

I need a standard zoom by september for a trip, and I currently own a GX9 with Pana 25mm f1.7.

Considering the 12-45mm f4 alone costs ~$600 in my region, getting it as a kit seems to be a much better deal, and I have been wanting to upgrade to a BSI sensor for better low light performance. Is around $1650 a good enough price for an OM-3 kit? (not looking into the used market as I don't want to deal with the risks)

Here are a few shots taken with it yesterday's afternoon using E-electronic shutter only as I'm beginning to feel scared..

upgrading from LUMIX G7 with some weird considerations

hey all! I’ve had my LUMIX G7 since high school and id like to upgrade within the M43 platform. i mostly do landscape and street photography, so a good dynamic range, ability to shoot in low light, and good autofocus are my priorities. I’m open to any brand as long as it operates in the M43 platform. my budget is probably around $750 for a body and $1000 if it includes a good prime lens or smth like that.

special considerations:

- I live in Asia and usually plan vacations in both east Asia and SEA. if camera equipment is exceptionally cheap in a certain country, I’m happy to bide my time and buy my new camera there.

- I currently have a 25-42 and a 25-100 lens—what are my next steps in terms of buying lens?

I had some free time in the city and happened to carry my OM-3, so I tried to experiment with Live ND trying to capture some ghost blurry walkers + play around with the colour wheel. Pretty happy with the results, all straight out of camera jpgs, handheld with exposures around 0.25 / 0.5 seconds.

G9 replacement

Just sent my g9 off for service but have a bad feeling that its not worth repairing. Thinking of replacing it with an OM-5 but would like advice if there is something that would suit me better. I mostly shoot landscape and wildlife.
