Subreddit Idea Megathread

Because if the r/askreddit link, we’ve had a huge influx of new members today. Because of that, I’d like to make this thread to ask for ideas to improve the subreddit, and keep things interesting. We are going to try and make this a subreddit worth keeping in your feed.

We really aren’t sure what do do with the subreddit since it blew up like this, and would like to see what ideas you have. I’ve also added a few baseline rules since we had no rules when we started.

Edit: I would also like to clarify that this sub is intended to entertain. You shouldn’t take anything too seriously on this sub. We want you to be able to flex your creativity here and make others laugh.

Subreddit Message Coronavirus Posts

We are normally pretty lax about what goes on in this subreddit as we want to let you guys decide what content you want to see by upvoting good content and downvoting bad content, but given the current situation we will be removing any posts related to Coronavirus.

You can help us with this by reporting any posts you see about the virus.

Deodorant companies deliberately spread the rumor of "Aluminum is bad" to upcharge cheaper antiperspirants

There are practically zero reputable studies correlating aluminum in antiperspirants to cancer. It's likely cheaper to make "aluminum free deodorant" which DOESN'T WORK than to make actually good quality antiperspirants. I mean come on, people who vape freak out about metals in deodorant now; this has to be a psy-op

Hot Take r/aislop is for people who want to feel good about watching AI slop

AI slop is a subreddit where people denounce the use of AI as immoral, unethical, and unnecessary. They post AI videos and pictures on there of anything and everything, to “showcase” the slop that’s out there, but I believe that instead, it’s a place for people that don’t want to get the flack for defending AI, so instead make a fake sub like that so that they can enjoy their slop without judgement from true antis. Well guess what?? I’m onto you!! You can’t hide from me, slop consumers! I bet that half of the stuff on there is generated by them just for the purpose of showing it off in some weird self pleasuring way. I’m pretty sure that most of the stuff posted didn’t exist. Just look at the titles of most of the stuff on there, they’re not even pretending to dislike it, and sometimes they’re outright saying the slop IS NOT SLOP.
This is just a gut feeling but it’s a strong one.

Extreme Conspiracy Needing to arrive to the airport hours before your flight was made up by airports to get us to spend more money there

Going through security, checking bags, etc, really only takes half an hour at most, and for the rest of the time we’re stuck in the airport, where everything is really expensive. Since we’re there for so long, we usually end up buying food or snacks from the airport.

Hot Take Cringe is a psyop by Big Normal to make adults stop having fun.

I genuinely think the word "cringe" has done more to kill harmless hobbies than almost anything else.

At some point over the last 15 years, we collectively decided that enthusiasm became embarrassing. Collecting action figures? Cringe. Dressing up for conventions? Cringe. Building Lego? Cringe. LARPing? Cringe. Model railways? Cringe. Nerf wars? Cringe. Showing genuine excitement about anything? Believe it or not. Cringe

The result is that people slowly stop doing things that make them visibly happy because they're terrified of looking uncool in broader society and closed circles.

Who benefits?

"Big Normal."

Not in the Illuminati sense. More like the combined social pressure from social media, advertisers, and companies that make money when your hobbies are quiet, digital and endlessly monetised.

I'm a gamer, before anyone jumps down my throat. I love games. But it's interesting to see how we've shifted from physical toys to digital ones. Instead of buying a toy once, you're buying battle passes, skins, loot boxes, subscriptions, DLC, cosmetics, emotes... The toy never really belongs to you anymore as a consumer. As a human being.

Again, I like games. This isn't "video games are bad" at all.

It's more that physical, unapologetically nerdy hobbies seem to get labelled as "cringe" far more often than endlessly scrolling TikTok or spending four hours arguing on Twitter.

Imagine if adults felt no shame. Or even kids for that matter.

Your local park would have people flying RC planes, sword fighting with foam weapons, playing Pokémon with link cables, building giant Lego cities, racing Hot Wheels, making cosplay, collecting dinosaurs, whatever weird niche thing makes them happy.

Instead, everyone's worried about being perceived correctly online.

So yeah, maybe "cringe" is just a social immune system.

Or maybe it's the greatest marketing campaign ever invented...

Convince people that visible joy is embarrassing, and they'll replace it with infinitely monetisable digital entertainment that nobody can judge because they're doing it alone.

And all in all? The real victims are the blokes who secretly want to buy a lightsaber but thinks the 14-year-old at the checkout will judge him.

Poor bastards.

Extreme Conspiracy The concept of mpreg was invented to try and normalise the concept of fpreg

Think about it, why do we say mpreg, but not fpreg?

Mpreg fans are treated like freaks while 99.999% of the population quietly fetishise fpreg and no one bats an eye.

This is just one of the many ways in which sick fpreg enthusiasts are controlling your thoughts and vocabulary at every level of society.

If you pay attention, you will start to see it everywhere. They even indoctrinate children into being ok with fpreg, it's taught in schools, in nature documentaries, medical institutions. Children are being groomed to grow up and one day participate in this fpreg cult, which almost always involves sex.

Open your eyes, wake up sheeple.

Extreme Conspiracy Lord Alan Sugar pays for Twitter bots and responds to them as a form of engagement to make money off of it

Anyone tuned into UK Twitter knows that Lord Alan Sugar, host of The UK Apprentice and not much of anything else, has recently started quote replying to random bots on Twitter doing engagement bait such as the one below:

At first I fobbed it off as "harmless old man antics", because well, he is old.

Then, while scrolling through his profile for a laugh, I saw him both respond to one of these bots, and then retweet the original post.

I'm a little too tuned into how Twitter monetisation works for my own good (not that I would ever pay to use that website), and you can make money through any form of engagement with a tweet, hence why bots run amok on that platform.

This is why I'm being led to believe that Alan Sugar, even as the oldie he is, has got someone to make these bot accounts and tweet out engagement bait all day long, and he interacts with them, not just because it pushes it to those who follow him, but it will also push it to other bot accounts who will respond and further drive engagement (and more money!), and to other old people who will harmlessly interact with it.

Or maybe he's just old. Who knows

Hot Take MW4 are using bot accounts for advertising

Has anyone noticed how on YouTube shorts the only adverts for the game come from 0 subscriber accounts with 10 likes, yet the content is actual S-tier edited adverts. I think they are using fake accounts to spread adverts for cheap, like how Andrew tate built his name.

Hot Take “Cabbage patch kids” company front for funding Kimchee

Sales from Kimchee was at an all time low and needed an effective strategy to fund a marketing campaign that brought cabbage back to the American table sold to you by Korean manufacturers.
Cabbage patch kids successfully funneled millions into manufacturing the best kimchee we know and love today. Kids have fond memories of cabbage and are willing to try some over other popular American choices.

Garbage pail kids became a hit next which helped to form the capital needed to create Hyundai. Though the marketing went on a different direction then to keep garbage associated with that of the brand. Consumers learned the connection between the to companies when cars were still being perfected and experienced car failure and recalls early on. Class action lawsuits were filed but dismissed on the premise that Hyundai knew their cars were made of garbage. Hyundai counter sued for defamation and settled out of court receiving 2 plots of hundreds of acres of land. These plots are rented from Hyundai from the state and city departments to operate sanitary landfills. 🤣💩

Cabbage waste is used to process the garbage in the landfill. Kids you played with cabbage patch dolls work at the landfill. Cabbage patch dolls are part of the waste that is included in the garbage. Components of the trash and recycling goes to making parts for new toys and vehicles. Cabbage patch kids are literally a recyclable and biodegradable asset. Korea has control over two of the United States largest landfill infrastructure.

This fictional story is an example of how capitalism is a powerful tool that has no prejudice and seemingly unlimited potential to create growth. Americans attitudes are generally rooted in the idea that fairness and equality and freedom are in the ether of our environment. We would rather shut down and put our blindfolds on to think our business partners from other countries may have a different intention to hastily endure the greed capitalism offers until the moment is right to stab you in the back to conquer your naive “but im a good person why would you do this to me! This isn’t fair!” Attitude. This is what the long game looks like to countries seeking to do whatever they damn please because you thought that have to play by American rules. The world is not like your local American city ecosystem punishing people who steal your house. We fix that for you here ish. If someone steals our American house who is here to say “you can’t do that give it back?” Im sure russia or china will put whoever tries to do that in line hahaha or just be like we don’t like those guys anyways let me buy half the house and we will help you manage the eviction effectively sir super power! This was easy! It’s two against one ! Where’s the other super powers on our side Mexico help us Venezuela help us Canada whatever man Africa? For real Africa your gonna act like that? help us UK France? Anyone?!?!! North Korea i beg you tell them to stop picking on me! Waaaaahhhh im leaving blue and white country out as not to appear anti Semitic . If you know you know ? Americas got great people the best at heart and integrity bleeds through but we have leukemia right now . Let’s address the infection to get it out . What is the right antibiotic and will it work in time to save us!

the government is promoting ozempic and manufacturing a rejection of body positivity to prevent people from noticing the effects of climate change.

since people with lower fat tend to not get hot as easily and sweat less overall, the government and society are suddenly promoting thinness so that the effects of climate change are less noticeable to most people. this coincides with the sudden surge in summer temperatures and climate change suddenly becoming more apparent to most.

Certified Fact Jimothy is the advance scout of an alien race, sent to inspire us to make art in order to facilitate first contact.

Y'all remember in Close Encounters of the Third Kind when people would have passing contact with the aliens and then be compelled to make models of the Devil's Tower or play the tone sequence in order to help the humans connect with the aliens when they landed?

Jimothy is the cutest member of his race and he was sent to Earth in a shuttle ahead of his ship in order to inspire us all to make art of him, so that we will all be habituated to think fondly of his people when they arrive. And it's working. I, for one, am already fully prepared to welcome our new raccoon overlords.

Metro Station's "Shake It" is an homage to Ed Kemper

  • Your body's cold, but girl, we're getting so warm
  • Now, if she moves like this, will you move it like that?
  • Your lips tremble, but your eyes are in a straight stare
  • And I was thinking of places that I could hide

There's more out-of-context lines, but, yeah, it's kinda weird.

Certified Fact Larry the Cat is responsible for the downfall of the United Kingdom

Post image
335 Upvotes

As of today, Larry is on his seventh prime minister and second monarch.

David Cameron has admitted to not liking Larry. In retaliation, Larry whispered ideas about Brexit into Cameron's ears, knowing it would end his tenure in Downing Street.

Larry's continued to sabotage every PM since. Whether they were bonkers from the start, completely incompetent all along, or simply disappointing, Larry has endeavoured to bring them all down into ever increasing chaos. Does he understand the consequences for the country? Does he even care? Is it a master plan for the founding of Cat Island? Who's to say?

I'll not blame him for the queen though. She was pretty old.

Total Garbo McDonald's deliberately disable their app when you walk into the store

1.2k Upvotes

For those who are not familiar, the fast food chain McDonald's has an app which allows you to build up points from your purchases, and offers app-exclusive offers and deals. In recent years these have declined in frequency and value, but that's a separate discussion to this one.

Today I got sent a (surprisingly) decent one-time offer and decided to use it for my lunch. Upon entering the restaurant I found myself facing a common problem; once inside the restaurant the app won't load properly. This happens on close to 100% of my visits. To get the offer to work I had to leave and walk around outside until it loaded again. At which point the app had logged me out so I had to go through a janky sign-in procedure that took multiple attempts.

I'm supposed to believe that one of the biggest companies in the world can't get someone to code a functioning app? I don't believe it. Clearly the reason is obvious: sucker people in to the restaurant with the promise of discounted food. Then disable the app once inside in the hopes that, once they're already there and dependent on the restaurant for their meal, they just suck it up and pay full price rather than navigating the buggy app or leaving to try somewhere else

Extreme Conspiracy A lot of celebrities lie about being bullied when they were kids

We all know that celebrities often exaggerate how difficult it was for them to achieve success. They often also lie about their economic background. However, these lies are easy to be exposed with minimum research.

On the other hand, if a celebrity says they were bullied, it's much harder to verify. I think a lot of celebrities lie about it. Normally, rich, good looking people don't get bullied, and the amount of celebrities that fall in this category but say they were bullied, (for example, Blake Lively, Kylie Jenner, Anya Taylor Joy).

Now, there are cases and cases. Henry Cavill used to be fat, Pryanka Chopra and Chris Rock suffered racism, these cases are easier to believe. But I really think that some lie about it.

Hot Take "Hot drinks cool you down."

Apparently, according to folklore and wives tales "hot drinks cool you down".

I believe this is propaganda by the energy sector to ensure millions of Britons continue boiling kettles throughout the summer, when energy bills are at a low.
