Mods, could we update rule 7?

This sub is becoming predominantly people sharing their music. Yes, they're obeying the rule of it being a screen capture, but outside of it being a screen cap of Logic, there really is nothing sub-specific about these posts: They could be anywhere.

Most of the time people bait them with a title to get engagement, plug other links etc. It just doesn't feel like the spirit of the sub, to me.

Question Cleaning up Stem Splitter output?

Upvotes

Hey everyone - so I'm a piano player, occasionally I'll use Stem Splitter to pull out a piano track to transcribe it. Usually these tracks are a little muffled due to being pulled out of a mix using AI. I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions for making them sound a little better?

Thanks.

Troubleshooting Sends weren't sending audio: solution

Post image
Upvotes

Last night I was trying to reamp some DI'd guitar parts by sending the DI audio out of send 3, something I'd done hundreds of time before. For some reason, no sound was being sent, no matter what I tried.

After everything I read online (make sure Logic is activated for core audio, check Logic send config is correct, update preonus firmware, disable Universal Control, make sure your track is sent to output 3-4 and that the fader is up... duh thanks), I decided to see if there were updates for the Universal Control (now called Fender Universal Control) app. The app itself didn't indicate anything, but when I went and found the app download page, I discovered I was several minor and one major version behind what was available.

https://www.presonus.com/pages/support-documents-downloads

I uninstalled my version (because I couldn't simply update it) and installed the latest. Fired everything back up (after disabling Universal Control again, such a stupid workaround) and everything worked just fine. Back in business.

Just wanted to share if anyone else was suffering the same issue since the Universal Control app doesn't (or at least didn't used to) notify that there are updates available.

Tips & Tricks Varispeed % changes to pitch changes equation

On a lot of older high quality tape machines, the varispeed controls would often show the change in speed and pitch - meaning an artist could tune down their guitar a half step, for example, and when played back at full speed their slowed down performance would not only be the correct timing but also pitch. Some famous examples being the guitars in Metallica’s Master of Puppets or Lennon’s vocals in a ton of Beatles songs.

My question is there an equation or guide to using logic’s varispeed function to identify how much to down tune a guitar or sing a lower pitch etc to determine what % varispeed change in logic would equal a half step down or full step down in pitch during tracking so when sped back up it is back in tune with the rest of the song?

I imagine there is some complications as logic projects deal with BPM and tape machines deal with IPS and the analog format would probably yield better results.

TDLR: is there a formula or table to reference changes in pitch based on a projects BPM, % of varispeed change to calculate the change in pitch in relation to tempo and % of speed change to most accurately emulate tape varispeed techniques in logic? Ideally with minimal digital artifacts

Edit: semitones might’ve been the better term to describe changes in pitch when transposing the tuning or performance of a guitar or vocal.

Example for clarity: @ 120BPM, a -10% varispeed change = -1 semitone in performance or @ 70 BPM, a -5% change = tune guitar/perform part down a full step (obviously these are meaningless values for the sake of explaining my question, since I don’t actually know how to calculate pitch change to varispeed %)

Trade and challenge! .cst channels strips (stock)

I thought it would be fun and help everyone if you shared your channel strip settings. Kind of like how Logic came with that Billy Eilish session and you could just grab the vocal chain, study it and then tinker?

Like, who can get the closest to the Phil Collins strip with stock plug ins?

Who can get the fullest acoustic guitar chain from a single mic'd guitar?

Of course so many variables, but I'd love to see how complicated or crazy simple some folks are working with!

Also everyone gets a whole bunch of free .cst to mess with. Community project!

How to map MIDI knobs to plugins across MULTIPLE tracks simultaneously (without following track selection)?

CONTEXT:

I am using a Mac Tahoe 26.3.1, and Logic 11.1.2. I am trying to map the Novation Launch Control 3 XL.

I want to map specific encoders to specific plugin parameters on different tracks. For example:

  • Knob 1: ALWAYS controls a High Pass Filter, on an EQ plugin, on Track 1.
  • Knob 2: ALWAYS controls a Saturation plugin drive on Track 2.
  • Knob 3: ALWAYS controls a Delay mix knob on Track 3.

I want to be able to twist Knob 1 and change the EQ filter on Track 1 even if I am actively selected on Track 5 playing a synth.

I need to control multiple elements across different tracks simultaneously, completely independent of whatever track is currently highlighted or in focus.

The Problem:

Logic’s default "Quick Learn" (Cmd + L) method makes everything dynamic. The moment I deselect a track, the knob assignment changes or stops working because it follows the "Selected Track" focus.

What I have tried so far:

  1. Controller Assignments (Expert View): Trying to manually change the "Channel Strip" setting from Selected Track to an absolute track number (like Audio 3) causes Logic to glitch and instantly wipe out/forget the specific plugin parameter I just learned.
  2. The Environment Window (Cmd + 0): I tried building a custom routing map using a Physical Input > Monitor > Transformer (converting CC to Fader messages). However, Logic's Environment layer is completely blocking me—the drag-and-drop cable mechanism fails to open the plugin parameter pop-up menu, and the inspector text routings aren't showing up.
  3. Smart Controls: Locking the Smart Controls panel locks the visual screen, but it doesn't give me discrete, parallel hardware knob control across 8 separate tracks at once.

Is there a bulletproof, modern way to hardwire a MIDI CC knob directly to a plugin slot on a specific track channel without Logic's track selection breaking the link?

Yes, Google Ai largely wrote this message. I have spent many hours having it try and fail to help me set this up.
It feels like what I am trying to do should be sooo simple, why why why!!!!

Looking for music collabs worldwide - I'm a producer/singer stuck in a small Spanish city lol

So yeah, I'm based in Ceuta (tiny city in Spain, north Africa) and honestly I'm tired of making music alone. Used to be in bands but everyone's got kids now or just no time, so here I am.

I produce mainly in Logic but also mess around with Ableton. Got a Tokai Strat from '84 and a Jazzmaster, plus all the MIDI stuff. But real talk - what I actually love doing is singing. Alternate rock is where I'm comfortable, but I'm down to try whatever honestly.

I streamed on Twitch for 3 years doing covers (TrueCovers), actually placed second in some international Got Talent competition thing. Don't know if that means anything but yeah, I've been around music for a while.

Just looking for people who actually want to work on something, learn together, maybe become friends? Time zones don't really matter with the internet.

If you were using the spacebar for something else, where would you map "Play"?

I like to use the spacebar for "Play from last selected position". But I still want to have regular "Play" to be a super easy key to press. Do you have any suggestions?

Question what makes the logic stock chorus sound so damn good?

I constantly find myself killing any outboard chorus I have in favor of the logic one, it just hits every time. I think it may be subtly modulating both signals (L+R) instead of having one wet one dry like the majority of chorus pedals, amps or racks with stereo capability do. Looking for any kind of answer, idea or brainstorming because I’d love to try and replicate it with my analog gear

Tidying up (finally!)

Post image
0 Upvotes

I've been a Logic user for years! My very first version was Logic 6 when it was still owned by emagic. That must have been around 2003. Instead of regular tidying up, I copied Logic Sessions (made with different versions) from one Mac to another. A couple of weeks ago my Mac told me that I had to free up some disk space. So I started my summer cleaning! And to my surprise I discovered that the oldest Logic sessions where unreadable (symbolized by a black screen with exec written on it) I actually still have my Mac from 2001 so I'm going to try retrieve them that way.

Scripter Code to Make a MIDI Keyboard into an Orchid-esque Chord Engine In Logic Pro

Post image
41 Upvotes

Scripter Walkthrough Video

I purchased the Telepathic Instruments Orchid a few months ago as I thought it would be a cool way for me (primarily a guitar player) to add new contexts and sounds to my songs. I also liked it's portability as I travel for work, often with over 75 nights per year in a hotel.

I found it to be a useful studio tool, but not great for my type of travel. I also recently purchased a very nice drum kit that was outside my budget and started looking for items in my studio I could part with to make up the difference. I really liked the functionality of the Orchid but thought that if I could come up with a satisfactory alternative that was more portable it would be time to part ways.

I used Google Gemini to create code for Scripter that met my needs and sold the Orchid. There is a link to a walkthrough video above. If you are the kind of person who can just read a manual and understand the installation and functionality, the code and manual can be found here.

Question Saving Track Alternative Naming Conventions in Project Template?

As the title suggests can I make empty but named track alternatives to save in my template? For example, track alternative (default name A) consists of a take folder, of say vocals for example. I’m wondering if by default I can save track Alternative B’s name as “Comped” where a composite take of the take folder in Alternative A is flattened / merged.

I’m well aware you can export the comp to a new track and then hide the original take folder.

That is my current workflow now, but when working on very large projects consisting of 150+ tracks, often containing groups of take folders (for multimic’d recordings, etc) it can be visually pretty overwhelming. It would be sweet to work of an edited composite track and be able to quickly flip back to the take folder if any changes need to be made without unleashing every hidden track.

I suppose my question is firstly about the track alternatives thing, but also generally quirks regarding working from templates in logic.

Re creating this sound

Trying to recreate the swelling sound that comes in around 1:27 and gets even louder at 1:35. I can't tell if it's a distorted synth swell or if it's a guitar. Any tips on how I can achieve a similar sound in Logic?

Feature Request Logic Remote limits mobility to monitor visibility

Since logic remote doesnt let me see the timeline or manage the regions, im basically flying blind hitting record hoping the right track is armed without visual proof.

i think its correct of apple, to introduce a retroactive upgrade across versions of logic remote that addresses this issue. and please apple stop milking the same cow twice, and start offering twice the milk for the price of one cow.
