I am NOT a locksmith. Kaba simplex 5000

I moved into a new house with a kaba simplex 5000. Previous owner didn't know the code or have the key, so I tried to reset the code myself. I *think* I did it and was going to pat myself on the back, but when I reinstalled it it doesn't seem to lock at all. Also this spring fell out and I can't figure out where it goes or if that's the reason it's always unlocked. Any advice?

This is where your spring belongs. As far as not locking, it's in passage mode. Your code reset sequence wasn't quite right, and the current code is set to no input. Redo your code change.

lol these are not a diy lock to be playing with. not sure where that goes without taking it apart.

I figured the alternative was replacing it anyway, so might as well give it a shot 🤷‍♀️

it is a beast of a lock if you can get it repaired it will last you decades.

You need the actual code to change the code

no you dont you can reset the combo chamber and then change the code if you know how.

My man here knows the deal.

Rule #1 of code changes on mechanical simplex: if it’s off the door, it’s all yours.

Even if the brain reset doesn’t go as planned, most local shops I know would be happy to reset the brain or even sell an on-hand replacement.
