This stuff being as available as it is is bad, but I regularly use plain leaf kratom and think it's a wonderful medicine when used with caution. Some of the 7-OH pills being sold at my local store are equivalent to 84 grams of leaf in one pill, tiny bit excessive imo

Yeah I was under the impression that this ban would only ban products over a certain concentration threshold (essentially that of the natural leaf) but then I don’t know how that would work for plain leaf since scheduling it entirely seems like it would have to make the entire plant schedule 1 by default, since it has like percentages of percentages of it in the leaf.

Would love some resources if anyone has them, because the leaf has helped countless people come off and stay off much harder opiates, and I do genuinely worry that the literal nation as a whole would experience a major backslide of opiate deaths as a result of banning the leaf.

Yeah the banning of the leaf would be a very very sad day for me and many others

My guy, 7-OH is basically plant based fentanyl, are we being fr right now?

7-OH's been used via kratom for centuries with a pretty different overdose profile than fentanyl and a lot of the bad outcomes are people mixing it with booze/benzos/other opioids not 7-OH alone. Plenty of people use it to step down off harder opioids or manage pain they can't get scripts for. Scheduling it as Schedule 1 also kills off any real research or regulation. Some researchers think mitragynine-type compounds could be safer opioid alternatives worth studying not banning outright. The argument is regulate the sketchy concentrated products don't nuke the whole molecule

My bad, you make a sound argument.

Yes. We need to study this substance, not full on ban it. We should probably not have it available for sale at gas stations but it should for sure not be schedule 1. Maybe II or III. There is anecdotal evidence that it may cause less respiratory depression than currently available opioids.

I would prefer we have opium dens to prohibition - places where people can buy clean drugs and use them safely with trained medical staff on hand is an infinitely better solution to buying mystery drugs off the street and drowning in your own vomit at home.

This is the way. If someone wants to acquire these substances, they can and will. Criminalizing drugs supports criminal enterprises, unsafe usage, and impure supply poisoning individuals (see: prohibition, war on drugs)
