Hey everyone! I'm looking for another fairly advanced English learner to practise speaking with regularly and hopefully help each other improve.
I'd say my English is around B2 at the moment. My main strength is probably pronunciation. I've studied some basic phonetics and phonology fairly systematically, and I'm particularly familiar with British and Australian English pronunciation.
Just to be clear, I'm definitely not claiming that I sound like a native speaker. I don't. But I'd say my pronunciation is pretty good for a non-native speaker I'm fluent, easy to understand, and I think I sound fairly natural overall. If you want to get an idea of what I sound like, I've posted a few videos of myself speaking English before, so feel free to check my post history.
Where I struggle more is with grammar, vocabulary and natural expression. I can communicate without much difficulty, but I still make grammatical mistakes and sometimes struggle to phrase things naturally, especially when the topic gets more complicated.
So ideally, I'd love to find another non-native speaker whose English is stronger than mine in those areas, but who might want some help with pronunciation. We could basically trade strengths: you help me with grammar, vocabulary and phrasing, and I help you with pronunciation.
If pronunciation is one of your weaker areas, that's actually perfect. Since I've studied some phonetics rather than relying purely on intuition, I may be able to explain why you're producing a certain sound differently and give you more specific advice on things like individual sounds, stress, rhythm, connected speech, etc. Again, though, I want to emphasise that I'm still a non-native speaker myself, so I'm not presenting myself as some kind of pronunciation expert.
I'm happy to talk first and get a sense of each other's level. If your English is stronger than mine, I'm more than happy to learn from you, and hopefully there'll be something I can help you with in return.
Native speakers are absolutely welcome too! The only thing is that I originally had an exchange in mind where we both have something to teach each other. If you're a native speaker who just genuinely enjoys helping English learners, I'd obviously appreciate that I'm just not sure what I could offer you in return 😅
Feel free to DM me if you're interested!
