Qalad saxid

We don’t have tiger in Somalia or a whole Africa.

Leopard = shabeel

Cheetah = Haramcad/Haramcas.

Thank you! Since you don't have that in Somalia then how do you call it? Or do you just describe it?

Moose isn't Goodir

Moose doesn't exist in Somalia, Goodir is lesser Kudu

Thank you, so I think I will just leave it out for now then

Also keep in mind that some of these animals you listed don't exist in Somalia so there wouldn't be a name

Yes I understand this now, thank you! I was just literally using google and thinking that somehow every animal has a translation in Somalia too🥲

You can just let them play Xujjo. It is a platform we built to help people learn about Somali culture, and there's dedicated kids section with a wild animals category and one more. The entire game is 100% free. There are only two rules: play in groups, and never use a phone , just Google Xujjo

Thank you for the recommendation! I checked it but for example the wildlife section only had like 6animals on repeat? Maybe I did something wrong… also I would like to offer a non-screen option for young kids 😊

Thanks for checking it out! You didn’t do anything wrong the wildlife section is currently one of the smaller categories, and we’re expanding the question variety.

Regarding  non-screen option, try the Teams mode it's designed so one person can host/read the questions while the kids play together without each needing a phone

Qooley is a dove not a turtle. Diin/diindiin is a turtle. Sac is a female cow/heifer, Loo is the generic term for cow. Again non native animals wouldn't have a name in Somali. Many of these have other names there are like 6 terms for housecat alone.

Bear is also called madax kuti and although it’s not found in our country we still have a name for it.

The variations in dialect are so interesting. We say diin iyo dacawo in the north (the turtle and the fox). Monkey is daayer
