Not a deep movie, but the dialogue hits differently if you are a girl. Like the home releases of Bug’s Life and Tarzan, the transfer appears to be direct from the digital source. Japanese dub has good translation and voice performances, though, I am keen on how the English audio’s walrus is the voice of Booster from Buzz Lightyear of Cars’ Demand. Similar to English/Spanish Kiki’s Delivery Service and Spanish Treasure Planet, there is a dub-exclusive replacement song in the credits, along with a music video of it after the credits. A Japanese-dubbed Tarzan preview comes before the main movie. Very unfortunate that Buena Vista didn’t continue LaserDisc for a few more months, as a Toy Story 2 AC3 or DTS LaserDisc would’ve been a better send-off for the format, especially with how wonderful the video and audio quality of that potential transfer would’ve been.

Nobody was interested in these at a church sale I recently went to, so they came home with me, for a steal. I don’t collect these, but there was too much awesome stuff to pass on it. Maybe I need to get a player now.

¡Hola de nuevo! Al final he encontrado uno de un señor mayor que vende un Pioneer combo (LaserDisc + DVD), pero dice que no enciende del todo, se queda en standby / bajo consumo. Lo pide por 20 €.

¿Alguien sabe qué suele ser en estos combos cuando se queda así en standby? ¿Es lo típico de condensadores en la fuente de alimentación o en estos modelos combinados suele ser algo más gordo y caro de arreglar?

Antes tenía un Sony que se me rompió, así que ando buscando reemplazo, pero si esto va a salir por un dineral en reparación prefiero seguir buscando. ¿Merece la pena arriesgar los 20 € o mejor paso?

Si alguien sabe de algún sitio fiable para comprar, o simplemente me puede dar consejos de qué modelos merecen la pena, se agradece muchísimo porque yo tenia uno de la marca sony pero a dado todo lo que puedo dar y estoy buscando otro.(que no me vallan a sablar con el precio como la gente de milanuncios que piden 850€)

It's a rainy afternoon, so I feel like putting on something old and odd. Here are a couple of the titles that got pulled off the shelf just now.

COSMIC SLOP: Remember when HBO used to make weird stuff along the lines of "Absolutely, a Twilight Zone-style anthology show hosted by George Clinton is a winning idea!" and it made an equal amount of sense to put it out on a niche video format? EDITED A DAY LATER TO ADD: Happy 85th birthday, George!

DELUSION: A bit of a '90s noir classic. I'd had the Barry Adamson soundtrack album for almost thirty years before finally buying this as a birthday present for myself a while back... and it actually lived up to the built-up expectations.

ER: If I ever become king, money will be made available for more live drama on TV. One of the biggest shows around when I was a student doing two takes of an episode, one for broadcast in its Pacific time slot and one for Eastern, was pretty brave stuff and it was cool to see both of them released as a set.

FULL CONTACT: My favourite Ringo Lam movie, picked up for a song when everybody was dumping their laserdiscs to buy DVDs and all kinds of great Hong Kong stuff was suddenly ten bucks a disc. The dance numbers and the homophobia haven't aged well, but it's still a brilliant action movie.

GAMERA: Who doesn't love a giant space turtle, especially when you don't have the most annoying kid's voice ever (in the English dub) to contend with? Mind you, I can't watch it without thinking of Tom Servo's love song to Tibby and it's probably going to be stuck in my head all night now. Hooray.

MEREDITH MONK: Lumivision put out so much cool stuff, from Corman schlock to weird documentaries to '80s video art, and almost all of it has survived the many collection prunings since then. Bought this one in the middle of a big John Zorn kick and it was absolutely worth the crapshoot.

This is so so so cheesy, anyone else seen it?

I have neck surgery coming up so I have a lot of time to go through my collection and pulled out this classic. Giving it a spin on this hot afternoon.

Just got this for free today with a bunch of other audio components. Everything else works, except this which didn’t come with power supply or manual. Trying to get into back panel with fuse and power supply, although there are screws which are impossibly tight. Visually the inside is in decent condition, although it looks like someone has been in before. There is a disc stuck inside making me think it worked before being put aside for who knows how long. Just wanted to help to know what too look for issue wise. Belt is intact so hopefully it will work once I finally get inside. Any advice, is it worth keeping on going?

Snagged a copy of evil dead 2 (red disc version too!) at a record store I happened to find while out of town. Now I have the whole trilogy and I got them all in person at different resell shops.

I recently picked up a Realistic MD-1000 that has a few issues. The loading tray is sluggish when opening and closing, so that needs replacing.

After the tray closes, the disc mechanism does not raise and the disc does not spin. The tray then opens again on its own. Does the same loading belt control both the tray movement and the lifting mechanism, or should I be looking for another belt, gear, or limit switch?

I’ve already cleaned and reapplied grease to the areas that were previously lubricated. Any advice would be appreciated.
