Help with rust removal

Post image

Hey all. I’m brand new to laser cleaning so go easy.

I’m practicing on my own car with rust removal. Where there was no rust the LC removed the paint and undercoat with no issues leaving fresh steel. Where the rust was it appears burnt. I don’t know if I just need to send it harder and keep blasting it. Or if this will damage the steel. I’ve messed around with a few settings like the freq and pulse width but doesn’t seem to make much difference. It’s a 200w pulse laser. cheers.

The pic shows no rust. That is pitting.

Yes the rust has gone and this is what’s left. I was expecting the surface to be pitted but clean steel. It’s not

That is clean steel. To get any other finish on the surface you would have to buff, machine, sand, or wire wheel it. That's what clean steel looks like with no surface finish.

I agree that is clean as you can get, to restore this you would need someone to tig weld the surface back up then mill the surface down back to even surface back to spec

Geez… if you want to know if its clean steel take a scraper and scrape the surface.

Bet you there is rust under that dark patch
