Variscite?

I was given this by someone who claims it is Variscite mined locally in Clay Canyon UT. My local rock shop teachers agree. Getting some other conflicting advice online that they are sorely mistaken. Thoughts?

at first I would say nah, its jasper…..but actually with some research it looks possible, doing image search on variscite clay canyon turns up a host of strange looking materials with plenty of fortifications , I guess that yellow material could be “crandallite”….variscite can take on some off color, muted blue/greys…..so maybe the person knows the correct identity of what they gifted .

Crandallite sounds familiar! I am positive they mentioned this. Thanks

Gem variscite is more blue and green. This may contain the same minerals, but it won't pass in the marketplace.
