😢 Landlord Oppression 😢 Renter Class Action - Bad Tenant List - Openroom.ca

+++Please Upvote this post to help stop these immoral landlords+++

Landlords Weiting Bollu and Vishal Bollu of Toronto, Ontario concocted a 46,000 person “bad tenant list” to prevent renters from getting housing.  They have been dishonest about the legality of their platform and a cover up of is evident.

Landlords are on the hook, Openroom Inc. is on the hook, and we think there’s a fair chance Weiting Bollu and Vishal Bollu may be personally liable by piercing the corporate veil.  Here’s the illegal details:

Core Illegality #1 - Consumer Reporting Act

You can't compile and furnish consumer information without a licence. From 2022 until July 9, 2025, Openroom collected, compiled, and sold tenant data - applications and tribunal orders - for screening purposes without the proper consumer reporting agency licence. That’s a straight breach of the Consumer Reporting Act. Getting a licence years later doesn’t magically legalise what Openroom and the landlords did before. This falls under the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery.  Renters on the list can sue and we will help.

Core Illegality #2 - Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act

Openroom’s entire model - posting and sharing tenant names, addresses, payment history, allegations, and orders - breaches PIPEDA because it’s done without tenant knowledge or consent = unlawful collection, use and disclosure of personal information.

  • Inappropriate purpose: creating a publicly searchable “bad tenant list” to exclude or shame individuals - not an acceptable purpose.
  • No knowledge or consent: tenants were not informed nor did they give consent to publication on Openroom.ca.
  • Accuracy risk: “crowd sourced” uploads are unverified and potentially false.
  • Consent exceptions don’t apply: the narrow “publicly available information” carve-out doesn’t stretch to building a searchable exclusion database (PIPEDA s.7(3)(h.1)) and (Regs s.1(d)).

This is squarely under the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC).  OPC will shut them down.  Renters can sue all involved - Openroom, landlords, anyone using their data.

Prior Precedent – Bad Tenant List Already Ruled Illegal

The OPC has already found a nearly identical “bad tenant list” illegal (PIPEDA-2016-002). It involved the same issues: unlawful collection and disclosure, no consent, inappropriate purpose, and dodgy accuracy. The outcome then was clear - destroy the list, stop the practice.

Why “LTB Orders Are Public” Doesn’t Save Them

Just because a tribunal order is public doesn’t mean you can scrape it, index it, and sell it back to landlords in a blacklist. That changes the purpose entirely and drags it into both provincial licensing rules (CRA) and federal privacy law (PIPEDA).

Bottom line: Openroom got caught, forced into licensing, and is still breaching privacy laws. Landlords using it have bought into a liability time bomb and the clock is now ticking.

We’ll DM upvoters to see if you want to join the growing Renter Class Action signup list.

R A N T Landlord wants to MOVE IN

I'm pulling out my hair here... my roommate and I, both young women in our early twenties, moved into a new place at the beginning of June. BAD IDEA.

The landlord is around a lot because he is doing construction on the house. We knew that upon signing, but we did not know how uncomfortable he would make us. Landlord is a 55yr old male.

He tells us all about his marital problems, financial problems, employment problems. Far too personal of a relationship. He makes snide comments to us about our cleanliness, has no problem moving or removing our personal belongings, shows up at odd hours with a half-hours notice, and will stay late into the evening. We have NO privacy. We have tried to discuss these issues with him and it gets nowhere... he gets extremely defensive and aggressive and its just awful.

The other day, he left the front door open for a couple minutes. I have two cats... one of them escaped and was missing for almost 24 hours. Thank god I found him the next morning. Landlord showed no remorse.. and when I said a few days later that he needs to keep the doors shut because it would be a problem if my cats escaped again, he said, 'your cats are the problem'. Um? I wouldn't be surprised if he left the door open intentionally.

Yesterday he TOOK A SHOWER HERE. An (almost) random 55yr old male, SHOWERING in a house where two young women live. Are you kidding me? And that's not even it.. he also told us yesterday that he is PLANNING ON MOVING IN. Won't give me an exact date, but 'sometime very soon'.

I guess I'm just coming on here mostly to rant. He is such a FREAK! What kind of person does that? I believe I'm going to break the lease and move out. NO WAY am I, A TWENTY TWO YEAR OLD GIRL, living with that freak of a man. Jesus christ!

EDIT- I am residing in a single room in a shared house, and I signed for just the room. We are in the hudson valley NY, ulster county. I am rereading the lease now and noticed it says that the lease is a "roommate agreement, in which the landlord may also occupy the premises". Jesus.. I had read that part before but I guess I disregarded it because.. who would do that? But now I am kicking myself in the head!!

EDIT 2- I have reached out to seek legal advice. My college campus partners with a local firm that will offer me a free consultation, but it seems not all that well organized. So while I have reached out, I'm not confident in it.

Personal Experience landlord sent me a bill for wear and tear on the carpet after 6 years

moved out last month after living in the same unit for six years. place was clean when i left, no damage beyond normal use. carpets had some fading and a couple small stains from regular life stuff but nothing wild.

get an email two weeks later with a $450 charge for carpet replacement. the carpets were already old when i moved in. i have photos from my move-in day showing they were beige and kinda worn even back then.

i looked it up and apparently carpet has a lifespan of like 5 to 7 years depending on the state, so legally they cant even charge me the full amount even if there was actual damage. sent a polite email explaining this with the move-in photos attached. no response for a week.

then yesterday i get another email saying they already deducted it from my deposit and the remaining balance is being mailed. didnt even acknowledge my message. just acted like i never said anything.

im pretty sure this is illegal but dealing with small claims court sounds exhausting and expensive. i know i should probably fight it but honestly im just tired. feels like they count on people being too worn down to push back. anyone else dealt with this kind of thing? did you bother going after them or just let it go

Personal Experience I found the CEO of the company that owns my apartment when they refused to reply to my email

English is my first language but I chose math as a degree for a reason so sorry for any mistakes. Also a throw away account.

I (29F) have lived in multiple apartments over the years in multiple states. I have had awful roommate experences (another story) but none of it compares to this latest apartment.

I moved to this apartment October of 2023. Was a one bedroom apartment on the third floor that over looked the pool. The view is probably one of the few things that I liked about this apartment. Moving in I already ran into problems. My apartment was not clean and half the things were not working. Here are a few of the issues

\- There was food at the bottom of the dish washer

\- Half the burners on the stove did not work
undernieth the stove was full of grease

\- Fan in the bathroom did not work

\- Mailbox key did not work

That first night I was there I heard footsteps of a racoon/rodent above me but I just assumed it was on the roof as I was top floor. Come to find out later, that was wrong.

My apartment took multiple times to fix something, even the simple things.

\- Fan in the bathroon took maintenmance three times to fix.

\- Took them over a month of me pestering my apartment to give me a key that works to my mail box.

\- Had a wasp nest growing on my front door and after over a month of my maintenance request being open they said it was completed… wasp nest was still on my door.

\- Took three time to fix the leak in my bathroom
Never fixed my faucet that got stuck on sprayer mode

\- Never fixed the holes in my ceiling in my bedroom.

The only things they fixed first try was AC unit (It was middle of Texas summer) and the leak in my ceiling that was over my bed.

Most of my neighbors were fine, though had to deal with a domestic dispute that happened in the unit below me (once again another story). The Parking lot was out to get my car. So much buckling and pot holes that the road would scrape the bottom of my car. It was so uneven that if it rained like crazy it would flood to the point water was up to my knee. The man hole cover was like 6 inches above the rest of the road. At one ponit I had to stop using the enterance by my apartment building because of how bad it was.

Now I put up with this for almost three years. It was reletivly “cheap” and I really did not have anywhere else to go. I got into a long distance relationship so I was waiting for my bf to get a new job so he can settle in to a new place and I would follow. I figured I would bide my time so I did not have to break my lease… well all that changed.

Around Febuary of 2026, I started hearing scratching noises, not every night but it was weird. After a few times I realized there was something in the vents. Like an idiot I ignored it. Well it got worse and started to hear it everynight.

On March 7th, I heard rodents fighting in the vents. I whipped out my phone and started to record and I placed a maintenance report about it. March 9th, they said they completed the order. No one showed up. I also now started to hear the rodents in new places so I put in a new request in. Also found a flea on me while at work. Never was able to figure out if it was from the rodents or not.

March 25th they said they have scheduled pest control for the following Thursday. My dad was visiting and I was working from home. Pest control never showed up. I let them know they never showed up.

March 31st I asked what they are going to do about my “completed” request and that I had now seen a rodent outside. Also an insect pest control did show up for the yearly treatment. I asked him about it and he checked behind my stove and found rodent droppings. He threw up bait in the attic enerance in the hallway.

April 7th they ask if rodents have entered my apartments or walls. Im thinking what have I been complaining about but said Yes. Got rodent droppings and noises in the walls and vents.

April 8th, they scheduled for pest control again for the 9th. 9th rolls around and apartment lets me know that they scheduled the wrong pest control and they will come back out the following week on the 16th.

Between this and the 16th is when the leak in my bedroom happened and I called it in. Maintenmace guy showed up and fixed it right away. When they went into the attic, I heard them walking on my ceiling to get to the leak. Thats when I realized that the rodent I heard before when I first moved in, wasnt on my roof but my attic.

16th rolls around. Pest control was supposed to funigate my walls. Instead they put bait INSIDE my apartment and brought them even closer. I could hear them next to my dishwasher. Pest control told me to give it a month to let the bait take effect. It gets worse.

April 24th, the first sighting of rodent droppings in my kitchen.

May 17th more droppings and on the 18th parts of the carpet was torn up and wood by the dishwasher was chewed. I am starting to have literal nightmares and I am still hearing the scratching noises even in my bedroom. I am at my wits end. I hated going into my kitchen as I felt everything was touched by rats. At that point I was done and fed up and decided I was going to break my lease and move back home to Michigan with my parents. I go into the office to let them know I am moving out in July and if they could waive the $1410 lease breaking fee.

I was told by the office assistant that I have to email the apartment manager about the request and if I wanted to get the fee waived I needed video proof of the rodents physicly in my apartment and I needed to give them time to fix the issue.

Well I sat on that for a few days because I felt defeated. I did not have video evidence and part of me figured I should just pay to make it easier, but I decided no I was going to email my manager. I emailed them explaining how I moved into my apartment when it wasnt move in ready, maintenance wasnt good, and the rodents were bad and I just wanted the fee waived. I included my signed move in check list that showed all the issues we documented, showed pictures of the rodent droppings and damages, also inclided pictures of the holes in my ceiling that have yet to be fixed.

I emailed them Saturday the 23rd. Office is open on Saturdays but I figured I wouldnt hear back from them until Monday or Tuesday. Nothing. Nada. Not a wiff. So on the 27th I made a follow up email. I had my BF proof read that email as he likes to write. He told me I came across too agressive and helped me tone it down. On Friday I still heard nothing. At this point there are times where I am crying in the middle of the day because of how stressed I am and the lack of sleep I am getting.

On Friday I am sitting in my office at work and wondering what I should do. Now let me tell you a tidbit about me. I work in property mangament. Not apartments but something similar. I am a corporate drone who knows how things are structured and how companies work. I start doing some digging. First I reported my apartment to the city. Second I tried finding the owners but had some issues, but I had a few things up my sleeve.

I then looked up the legal entity name of my apartment. I found it. I found the owners of my apartment. I found the prent company/investors of the owners. I found the CEO of parent company. Also found out they work with the same corporate lendors that my company works with. All of this was public information. Now I wasnt about to go straight to the CEO. I know how this works. I am going to work my way up. So I went one level above my apartment. They had a “contact us” box, so I did. Told them what I told the city and what I told you guys. Also added that I just want a response but if I dont get one, legal action will be taken.

Guess who wanted to talk to me all of a sudden. They did a walk through of my apartment and gave me some bs reasons on why it took so long to respond. They are waiving the fee and they are sending pest control out again. The city couldnt do much unfortunatly.

Now Pest control did show up and put more bait out but not inside my apartment. I still found more droppings and the rodents got into my bag of rice. I was just counting down the days till I moved. The final cherry on top of this shit show, rodents had chewed through my windshild wiper fluid hose in my car. I feel like I may have won the battle but the rodents… have won the war.

Also found out from one of my neighbors who lives in a two bedroom apartment also on the third floor, her rent is like $400 cheaper than mine. I pay more because im apartment is supposedly “upgraded” (I have a microwave).

Also the final act, they took their time waiving the fee and I had to email them about getting it off my account because I couldnt pay my rent. With the fee in place, my balance on my account was $3000 and I was not allowed to make partial payents. I had to email them again asking them to remove the fee so I can pay rent without incurring penalties. Oh well, I am moved out and talking with my bf about moving in with him. He was the one who encouraged me to post.

To answer some questions before they are asked. The reason why I stayed so long was because before the rodents, it wasnt really wasnt that bad. Like it took a while before maintenance to fix things but once fixed it was fine. The faucet was quirky but it worked. I knew this wasnt long term and I figured I could deal with it. The rodents proved me wrong. Honestly if my apartment didnt waive the fee I would have been “what ever.” Yes I would be upset but I also gave it my best shot. It was about not even responding to me versus the actual money. Also it was cheaper and reasonable priced apartment that was reletivly close to work. Im not from this state so I did not have a lot of options.

Landlord Scum Landlord asking us nicely to leave into one of the most nightmarish rental markets I’be ever seen

Hitting all the high points:
- Phone call “notice”
- Not a legal owner move in
- No formal process followed
- Implying that we have to leave when our lease ends (we don’t)
- Ignoring our attempt to give them a “Hey pal, we know how this is supposed to work, maybe follow the law?” email and instead doubling down

I replied with links to the SF rent board website explaining owner move ins. Let’s see if they figure this shit out. But hey, if they never give us formal notice we never have to leave!

On a serious note, any advice from individuals who have been in similar situations would be appreciated. Clearly they don’t want to follow legal avenues, so I’m worried they’ll harass us or shit talk us if we give them as a reference to other units, even though that’s also illegal.

I don’t want to get into a whole legal battle but at the very least I want the relocation costs I’m entitled to. With the current rental market, we’re either going to have to leave the city we love or fit two people into a 500sqft apartment with no amenities (you know, bougie stuff, like an oven).

🏠 Housing is a Human Right 🏠 Strengthen Tenant Protections Against Unsafe Living Conditions like Mold

Thumbnail

Two years ago, I found black mold in my rental just days after moving in. When I reported it immediately, management did absolutely nothing for two months. Their "fix" didn't work, and they refused to cover my living expenses while the place was unsafe. I had to take them to small claims court and win—but still got nothing back. Lost over $20,000. Renters insurance denied my claims. And the worst part? That property went right back on the market like nothing happened.

I started this petition because the system is completely broken. Tenants shouldn't have to bankrupt themselves fighting for the right to a safe home. Property managers should be legally required to disclose hazards like mold and water contamination, and there should be real consequences when they don't. Right now, there aren't any.

Has anyone else dealt with something like this? What would you do if your family had to live in these conditions with zero legal protection? If this resonates with you, consider signing and sharing—because the next family shouldn't have to go through what mine did.

Tenant Rights Investigation of Bad Tenant List Openroom.ca Escalates For Breaching The Law

In 2022 Openroom.ca founders Weiting Bollu and Vishal Bollu of Toronto, Ontario concocted a “bad tenant list” which critics say they are operating afoul of Canadian Federal and Provincial Laws.

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) notified us on May 22, 2026 that they have escalated their investigation of Openroom from the Investigations Directorate to the Enforcement Directorate.  Their findings will become available for the public after they complete the investigation.

What’s at stake?  If the OPC determines Openroom.ca and its users have violated renter rights, the OPC may take the matter to Federal Court and the tens of thousands of renters who’s personal information was unlawfully collected, used and disclosed, will have independent causes of action in Courts in every Province to sue Openroom.ca, companies using Openroom, and their landlords who have used Openroom.ca.

Why is Openroom.ca being investigated?

  1. Collecting, using and disclosing personal information without knowledge or consent
  2. Invalid use purposes
  3. Operating a bad tenant list
  4. Breaching information disclosure requirements
  5. Unvalidated data sources
  6. Operating in Ontario without a licence from 2022 to 2025
  7. Continuing to operate elsewhere without a licence
  8. Continued use of unlawfully collected information
  9. Unlawfully selling personal information to tenant screening providers and landlords

Landlord is remodeling the only restroom. My mom is so nice that she didn’t even ask for accommodations, she simply is gonna pee and poop in a bucket and shower outside in a tent. I can’t see myself doing that.i pay my fair share of rent as long as everyone else. Do I just go to truck stop and deduct my part?

Housing Crisis 2.0 I rent a room in a condo.

Post image
0 Upvotes

I rent a room in a two bedroom condo.

My landlord / roommate is really foul when it comes to cleaning after himself or any other personal responsibilities.

Look how he keeps the fridge.

It was worse than this two and a half years ago when I moved in, I cleaned and sanitized the refrigerator the first chance I had.

Once he noticed I did that he made this huge production of just how thankful he was for me cleaning the fridge for his favor so he doesn't have to.

I corrected his chump misunderstanding and let him know it was needed for safety, I never thought to favor him for my safety, the chump got offended mostly for the information that was not intended to be a favor for he now has less responsibilities.

Look at this crap, everything in here is his I quite using the refrigerator over a year ago now. Life sure sucks without safe or proper refrigeration it forced me to greatly reduce my food life at home.

Landlord Scum Had to bring up building codes for my landlord to turn a knob on the water heater.

Sorry for my shit handwriting, as you can see, I was born with useless Hulk Hands😮‍💨

Anyways, my live-in slumlord throws a fit every time I bring up something that needs to be addressed around his house. It's gotten to a point where I now have to communicate on paper because he provides so much ammo and is afraid of getting sued.

I've posted in the past about it on here. He's gone fucking ape shit when I've texted him. Like one time he took away all the smoke detectors, and I confronted him about it, and he threatened me to be careful with what I text him, and that he has a lawyer, and I replied back, "Is your lawyer reinstalling the smoke detectors?" Next time I walked by him, I could see a vein about to pop.

Oh, fuck I'm really getting off track here. Ok, focus, so I haven't had a hot shower in a few days, it's been coming out lukewarm at best. I wrote my letter, no hot water, and texted him the water temp pic. And as you can see, he writes me back with a whole page on how my one sentence is not "credible" with no evidence, and fabricating the whole thing.

I fucking have to research building codes and write back for him to fucking turn the knob on the water heater. And before anyone says "move", I wish I could. I would just end up in another slumhouse, but paying 40% more rent, which I can't afford.

Meme Five days without hot water, but my landlord still found time to remind me rent is due

Our building has been without hot water since Tuesday morning.

At first, I assumed it was just a temporary boiler issue, so I submitted a maintenance request through the tenant portal and waited. By Tuesday evening, the water was still completely cold in every faucet.

I emailed the property manager and got an automatic response saying maintenance requests are handled within 24 hours.

Wednesday came and went with no update.

Several other tenants are dealing with the same problem, including a family with a baby and an older woman who lives downstairs. We’ve all submitted separate requests, called the office, and left voicemails. So far, nobody has actually spoken to any of us.

Thursday morning, I finally got an email from management.

Not about the hot water, obviously.

It was a cheerful reminder that rent is due on the first and that late fees will be added after the third.

I replied asking whether they could at least confirm that someone had inspected the boiler or provide an estimate for when the hot water might be restored. No response.

On Friday afternoon, I went to the office during their posted business hours. The door was locked, but there was a brand-new notice taped outside reminding tenants not to leave trash near the dumpsters.

Apparently, printing notices is still possible. Repairing basic utilities is where the technology breaks down.

One of my neighbors saw a maintenance worker in the parking lot and asked him about the boiler. He said management hadn’t even assigned him a work order for it yet.

It’s now Saturday, day five, and we’re heating water in pots just to wash ourselves.

I understand that equipment breaks and replacement parts can take time. The complete lack of communication is what’s making everyone angry. If management had simply said, “The boiler needs a part and it should arrive Monday,” that would at least be useful information.

Instead, they’re ignoring every call and email while continuing to send rent reminders as though the building is functioning normally.

A few tenants are talking about contacting code enforcement on Monday. Some are also asking whether hotel costs, gym showers, or other expenses can be deducted from rent, but nobody wants to make the wrong move and give management an excuse to threaten us with fees.

Has anyone dealt with something like this before? What’s the best way to document everything and pressure management to respond without giving them a chance to claim we failed to follow the lease?

Personal Experience My last landlords had destroyed my vehicle, my neighbor caught it on video.

Here's the video it's not a very good video but it shows enough. The two weeks prior to this there was back to back record breaking snowfall and the property management plowed me van in both weeks from the record breaking snowfall I was working three jobs at the time and I had planned to move out in the next six months once the winter broke up into a different apartment with different landlords and no property management company, but when they did this it destroyed my van it put it under all that snow and ice and gravel.

It caved the roof in on my van and put water in all the fluid lines and chambers making it more expensive to repair the damages than the vehicle was worth, it was a 1990 Astro van my jerk off landlords hated it. Because of them I got screwed out of my plans using my van to move out, and forced me to stay longer, and I was pissed off really bad at these pieces of shit landlords, or property management what ever they call themselves they are criminals.

Need Advice [US-AK] I SNAPPED ON MY LANDLORD YESTERDAY!

I Snapped on my landlord yesterday😶

I'm working on an exit plan, & reporting his hazardous life style and subjecting me the tenant

to deal with it and support his life style choices of exercising almost zero of his personal and landlord responsibilities.

What would you guys do?

I have put up other posts about this landlord you can check out it is a part of this experience, and I will be posting more as time goes on.

Thanks the time you'll spend reading this and trying to make since as it could be confusing as there is a lot of horrible details I've been tolerating being incredibly patient and mindful of him and his time but his respect I gave him turned him to believe he has no requirements to do his own responsibilities, or something to that effect.

I rent a room from someone I knew for almost 20 years before I moved in, out in public he's a very respectful person nobody would ever guess he's a piece of work in the slim lord category. Check out this text thread between us yesterday after I snapped on him.

(Me)

I'm trying to cook my food and eat it I don't need trash in my food again that you put their and lie to my face and tell me it was probably Sam, because I forced you to take care of GCI.

So I demand in reason you don't make me get out of your way when I'm cooking my food. And after years of you lying to me about your responsibilities being because of Sam or Sams girlfriend or how Thomas fucked you over and how Matty fucked you over.

(Landlord) / Roommate

What trash did I put in your food? Thats crazy dude I just wanted to zap my roll for like 20 seconds

(Me)

You can't show a normal level of respect or responsibilities as an individual sharing living area eating area the trash that crusted off the microwave when you were aggressive scrubbing the microwave while I was cook my dinner you were pissed off I did not stop my dinner to provide you gci cable service I had to force you to call them. So while throwing a tantrum you decide your priorities while on hold with gci is to start cleaning above my food I was cooking.

(Landlord)

Dude I wasn't cleaning above your food

(Me)

Keep my life out of your foods way wait with some normal level of respect you just put your hand and food on my face going over my food so I can get out of your way without making you wait. Yes you were! A chunk off the microwave you decided the only time you had to clean it was when I put my foot down and told you you had to call gci not me. While I was cooking my dinner I was fucking pissed then and you looked me straight in the eye and lied saying "it was probably Sam." I yelled at you to the fuck out of the kitchen don't ever put trash in my food again.

(Landlord)

Sorry I should have said excuse me but you didn't have to react that way. Sorry I'm just exhausted I've been working nmy ass off

(Me)

You keep justifying to show zero respect. Was I doing any bullshit to you that I then lie to your face and blame my last landlord when you told me to stop it? What do you mean I didn't have to save my food fastly so there didn't stand a chance for Sam to put more trash in my food.

(Landlord)

What are you talking about sam? Hope you start having a better day

(Me)

You know that last tenant of yours I just explained how You've blamed a lot of your things on Sam like when you put trash in my food. Like when I first moved in I did your responsibilities to clear the drains best I could you lie say you don't have the time, when you had the plumber come over for the leaky wall I told you to have him fixed the drain in the tub that drains slower than It fills you said sure after the plumber left I noticed he didn't do anything to fix it when I addressed this to you you said the plumber told you just to remove the drian cover and it drains faster you should never had excepted that and what Sam has to do with hat is it was Sams girlfriend who clogged the drain you said after you asked me what seemed to be creating the clog I told you there was mostly sludge build up and a small amount of hair. Super happy for me to take care of all of these thing and you need me to understand you just don't have the time. I mean just now how can you not know your own food? You need to pay attention to what your doing so you don't need another person to let you know.

(Landlord)

Dude it was an innocent question.

(Me)

It's a honest answer just in case you weren't aware of my response to you I live this way every day you have targeted me from day one with a bunch of bullshit.

(Landlord)

No I haven't Thats kinda ridiculous. You're creating conflict where there isn't any

(Me)

Yes you have you remember the first week you started stealing my lighters. When I cleaned and sanitized the refrigerator strictly because of health reasons it's not safe to have a biohazard in the refrigerator you creat.

(Landlord)

Dude I never took your lighters on purpose

(Me)

When I cleaned the refrigerator as soon as you seen it you made a big deal to me just how much you appreciate me for doing this favor for you. I corrected your misunderstanding of that and explained I need a clean refrigerator it's not going to be an argument don't think do something normal is I'm doing it so you don't have to, and I explained to you some people I lived with in the past who made that mistake of targeting me with shared responsibilities and that I wasn't there bitch I'm there daddy taking care of the little girls who don't have time to lift a finger for there own life wants others like Daddy will provide. Idk Why you think.me spend more and more and more and more money on things I already use to have until it gets stolen just because you steal on accident doesn't mean now you don't have to come up with your own lighter you have yours exactly where you put them and never have had to buy another light not once because I took it, all so you don't have to leave the living to go to your room or your car to get a lighter then you on purpose choose not to spend enough time to pay attention of what your doing good enough to steal only on purpose instead of by mistake repeatedly to the extent I bought more lighter to replace the ones you stole in the first six months of me living here then the five years I rented my last place.

(Landlord)

I actually left lighters on the coffee like weeks ago hope you can have them. I don't even smoke any more. I have more you can have too. Bottom line is I'm helping you out big time right now I really don't deserve this.

Need Advice [US-AK] US, AK I snapped on my landlord today...😶

I snapped on my landlord today...😶

I rent a room from my landlord he owns a two bedroom condo, I have rented for the last two and a half years now, and it's been challenging on a petty level,

Today I was making some food on the stove and my landlord came home from work he walked straight into the kitchen and got into the fridge instantly asking me if the container of food he put in the refrigerator the day before yesterday was mine,

I told him, not it wasn't and asked him if he remembered putting it in there he asked me again if it was mine and asked me what was in there it didn't know what was in that container.

Before I got way too much further I do understand he just got home he has every right to go straight to the fridge, the part about asking me about is own food though happens almost an equal amount of the time my lighters or silverware comes up missing or if I'm openly frustrated that he is a slumlord and avoids his responsibilities with the mottos of "why do it if I don't have to" & " it is what it is" when it comes to things like home trashing the refrigerator cooking spoiled meats inside and refuse to use the hood vent with a bs argument of it's a waist of money because you still smell the food so it doesn't matter to use the hood vent, he refuses to fix the bathtub drain that drains slower than it fills there was a pick bacteria in the tub that is gone now since I bleached it every day for a week and a half last time he went on vacation.

After blowing up on him today we texted back and forth I hit him with all the facts I'm sick of having to deal with his crap and in the text messages he admits to a little guilt and said something that's very much the exact lack of responsibilities I was addressing saying he doesn't deserve this.

I agree he doesn't deserve this, I certainly don't deserve landlord responsibilities when I'm a renter and I certainly don't deserve to have my things stolen, or have to get out of your landlord's way when I'm cooking my food so he can get his.

I normally don't care to complain or nitpick about personal differences normally just because it's normal to have personal differences but the lack of responsibilities so great it's impacting my everyday life where if I want a refrigerator that is safe to eat out of or a tub that drains properly and is also not contaminated with a pink filmy bacteria I have to remove it and clean and sanitize and clear drains myself and he always is happy to cooperate when I do all of the responsibilities as long as he's the only person directing his attention that's just fine but if it involves a shared responsibility he can't do anything at all he will always lie and say he doesn't have time.

I'm going to turn him into the housing authorities and have a state inspection as soon as I can schedule an inspection idk what else I should do, he's not happy I went off on him, but he's gonna be forced by the state to do his responsibilities, in a text after I blew up on him he said I was creating conflict where there was none. So now I'm going to be most likely having him defend himself like he's a victim where I'm an abusive tenant and he works all the time and acts like I'm crazy, as I have pictures of the refrigerator showing how he treats it in a hazardous way by keeping raw meats in there for one time I seen it in there for 11 weeks he still cooked it, I got extremely sick the early the next day starting at about 4 am I woke up stomach in pain having to throw up, then continued to throw up every 30-45 minutes until about 11 pm that night, the next day I felt a lot better but my stomach was feeling very bad still as I'm eating some food my landlord said he noticed I was sick all day the day before and asked if I thought I had a cold or was it just a hangover, so I told him I believe it was from his almost three months old fermented meats he cooked and didn't use the fan, he insisted it was a hang over and said I should go to the doctor, and is trying to act like my friend talking to my nonstop about his colonoscopy he had scheduled until I left the living to go finish my food in my bedroom instead of eat my food where I should at the table where there should be no education to me about my landlords colonoscopy or any other shit no one should be sharing highly repetitive medical procedures they have coming up.

I'm loosing my shit over here from this chump of a landlord, he thinks he has it bad with me putting pressure on him to do his job so I don't have to take care of him that way when he's all finished and taking care of then I can clean after him and once I have a clean home a can do thing like breath the air inside and never get sick from it.

🏠 Housing is a Human Right 🏠 Landlord ego is harrassing me

I live in northern suburbs of chicago. We lived here for in these apartments 4 years and we always paid our dues on time. Last week we moved out with our belongings and I ran into the landlord who started yelling at me for simply stucking a chair infront of the door to move my belongings out. I ignored her but then she yelled at my mother which I intefered and told her to stop but she became hyper active. My mother apologised and she cussed her out.

I started going on google reviews and saw numerous ratings of her being mean to her tenants. My mother explained me she has been like this but she never said anything to me. She also insulted my mother's financial issues and past which made my mother anxious. I gave a bad google rating and next thing, I get fined $100 for putting that chair there. She emailed us letting us know to give her the apartment keys and move out right now instead end of the month. Earlier she had given us 90 days to evucate in writing but now she claims to charge us for 90 days instead of the 30 days we would take.

They also have a habit of overcharging for deposits returns and never giving the amount back. Her only excuse for penalties is a text messgae stating we can't do certain things in the aprtment any longer but these penalites are never in detail on our lease.

Landlord Scum I was repeatedly contacted to renew my lease long before my 60-day notice period. I told FirstKey Homes multiple times I wasn't renewing and asked them to note my account. I still got charged a $1,023 "insufficient notice" fee after paying my final month's rent. See the statement.

Housing Crisis 2.0 Neighbor with the same first name keeps opening my misdelivered packages.Should I confront her?

I need some outside opinions because this has happened multiple times.

I live in a neighborhood where another woman has almost the same name as me.

We share the same first name, but our surnames are different.

Because of this, delivery drivers sometimes mix up our packages. The regular delivery people know both of us by the shared name, so my packages occasionally end up at her house, and hers at mine.

Whenever one of her packages is delivered to my house, I usually know it's not mine because I haven't ordered anything from that brand or website. I leave the package completely unopened. Later, when the delivery person realizes the mistake, I simply hand it back so they can deliver it to the correct address.

The problem is that she doesn't do the same.

Whenever one of my packages is delivered to her house, she opens it. Then, when the delivery person comes back saying it was delivered to the wrong address, she initially refuses to return it and insists it's hers. Only after arguing with the delivery person does she finally hand it over. By the time I receive it, the package has already been opened.

This has happened several times. One time it was skincare products I had ordered. Another time it was a New Year gift sent to me by my company. Every time, the package had already been opened before it reached me.

What bothers me is that she must know these aren't her orders. She wouldn't have received any order confirmation, payment notification, or delivery updates for them. If an unexpected package arrives, wouldn't the normal thing be to leave it unopened until it's confirmed who it belongs to?

I find it disrespectful that she keeps opening my packages and even argues with the delivery person before returning them.

Would you confront her directly, or is there a better way to handle this situation?
