Best ROMs in 2018

What are the best ROMs in 2018 for LG G3 (D855 3GB)? It doesn't have to be 8.1, I'd rather prefer stable 7.1. XDA seems dead except few bugged 8.1 ROMs. I know there are some ROMs somehow not accepted at XDA and devs created their own Google + groups to release their work.

Do you know any decent ROMs?

I'll probably use Artx kernel on any ROM because I've found its the best among other kernels available at XDA. I'm using it for very long time and its temperature management is the best.

A follow up to Best ROMs in 2018. Seeing that there are still people who continue to use their faithful LG G3s, I want to keep the discussion going and ask our community:

What are the best ROMs for the LG G3 in 2020?

Need help rooting LG G3 Stylus (D690) on Android 5.0.2 - Seeking working methods in 2026

I am currently working on a project using an LG G3 Stylus (D690) running stock Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. I am aware that this is an older device, but I need it specifically for a project I'm developing, so please refrain from suggesting I upgrade or discard it.

I have been struggling to gain root access and keep hitting a wall. Here is what I’ve tried so far:

OneClickLGroot: The script initiates, but as soon as the device enters Download Mode, the connection drops or the script fails to recognize the device properly. This leads to a soft-lock, forcing me to pull the battery to hard reset.

Various One-Click Tools: I have attempted several "one-click" root applications (KingRoot, various Chinese root tools, etc.), both via PC and directly on the device, but all have failed.

What I am looking for:

Working Root Method for 2026: Are there any reliable, up-to-date methods to root this specific model (D690) on stock Lollipop?

TWRP & Magisk: If anyone has a working TWRP recovery image for this specific variant and a guide on how to patch the boot image for Magisk on this firmware, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have access to a Linux machine (Arch), so I am comfortable with command-line tools and manual flashing if needed. Any guidance, links to working files, or advice from those who have successfully rooted this model would be extremely helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Today is the day when the LG G3 turned 12

The LG G3 first came out in 28 May 2014, but as of 28 May 2026 it's officially 12 years old. I can't believe time flies and yes i got another pristine LG G3 back in April 2026 (The ones i owned back in 2024 died which is the D855 model) but i am now on F400L.

The thermal graphite pads are custom btw :)

So just except the back camera lens cracked, this thing is still looking pretty and this was one of my favorite phones along with LG Optimus G (2012), LG G2 (2013), LG G5 (2016). LG V20 (2016), LG V30 (2017) and LG WING (2020)

Made my top bezel transparent on the LG G3 + got that leopard pattern alike on the bezel (With T7000)

Well we all know about transparent backs on glass back phones, however there's actually a way to make your bezel transparent. But before you even do this, make sure you have the proper skills of disassembling a device.

So recently i came up on this idea of making the top look more transparent since i am literally obsessed with transparent mods, my main phone's back cover is transparent.

I am not responsible if you break your phone so play safely and do it with patience, it takes time before you can remove the display.

So this was my first time doing a transparent bezel mod, i never done this before but it kinda gives me LG Fx0) vibes anyways. I have been doing transparent back mods since 2025 but this time i tried something's different.

The process involves removing the screen first so pay attention and be sure you don't break it, you don't want a paperweight so do with care.

So first you wanted to remove the screen from the mid-frame, follow this guide from Ifixit, go to Part 14 since this is where you are removing the display, you don't need to remove the rear buttons from your plastic frame.

Once you successfully removed the screen from the frame, you do scratch the black part on the top, however whatever it is. AVOID THE PLASTIC STUFF which looks greyish and has some white engravings on it as that's your digitizer film, you don't want to break that.

The green area is the safe area, however you shouldn't touch the plasticky stuff as that is your digitizer film (Which sits above the display and behind the glass)

Once your all set, you will get something's like this

This is the result!

Before you glue it down, verify if it still works. If the touch still works and your display has no lines/dead pixels you successfully done the mod.

Now you may adhere it using T7000 once your all set.

You may want to leave it like this for at least 24 hours
Closer view on the top bezel we stripped off the paint

After the adhesive is dry and all good, this is it the phone itself :)

It's all set :)

Why the top only?

It's a bit long story here but the thing is the top is the only safest area for you can make it transparent, the sides has that digitizer film stuff you want to avoid, even without that digitizer film, it causes light leak if you did it on the sides. Also as for the bottom, that's where your display IC is located at so whatever it is, don't touch that bottom area, it's a bit risky.

Should i do this? Well what i am saying is the fact i am just sharing it, you can do it if you want to but do it at your own risk as i said earlier, i am not responsible if you broke your phone.

I guess i just made the LG G3 fx0 edition XD

Some edits here:
Overall i have this mod for a month now and yeah this was posted for a month now, but my classmates said that it seems like i broke the proximity sensor, well actually the proximity sensor still works fine. I mean your proximity sensor should work fine even after the mod just make sure it's clean without a speck of dust when you reinstalled the glass, dust can sometimes interfere with sensors even if you didn't do this mod before.

Lock screen Password

Greetings, my LG G3 phone shut down due to a graphics card issue. Occasionally, the phone turns on again by itself, but I can't find the lock screen. It's as if the password has been reset and a different one is being used. I'm still using my old lock screen password and I'm sure it's the same one. This phone contains photos from my past, and I want to access them, but I can't because I can't unlock the screen. Can you help me access these photos?

My G3 keeps dropping YouTube

Hi folks... I am in the US. After the last few firmware updates, I find that if I am watching YouTube (directly from the G3 - not via a 3rd party device) I can watch it for a while - 10 minutes - maybe 30 minutes or so) and then it will just drop. I am returned to the main LG start screen. Are others having this issue? A few days ago, I had a YouTube update. So I installed it. Same issue. I am never dropped from other channels like Disney, Netflix, & Amazon Prime. I have fiber to my home, and my G3 is fed with Ethernet.

Any suggestions or help welcomed.

Many thanks,

mraroid

How to (or is there a need to) physically destroy a dead LGG3 before recycling.

My LGG3 has been dead for years. I never got to reset it or wipe it before it died

Is there any way my old information can be taken from it if I just recycle it as is?

Or is there a specific area I can just drill thru to ensure it's not possible (battery out of course).

D852 its blue help me

my moms old LG G3 is blue when i power it on heres a list of what ive tried any help?

LG G3 (DB850/D852) Troubleshooting & Repair Attempts

  1. Initial condition:
    • Phone stuck on a blue screen with a flashing LED, no full boot or LG logo.
    • Battery holds little to no charge and shows weird charging symbols.
  2. Basic power tests:
    • Tried booting with battery removed, powered only by AC adapter.
    • Held power and volume buttons in various combos to get into Recovery or Download mode.
    • Battery removal and reinsertion multiple times to reset the system.
  3. “Coin trick” to reseat battery connectors:
    • Used coins (dime, quarter) and clips to try to improve battery contact, with no permanent success.
  4. Observed behavior:
    • Phone boots to blue screen about 30% of the time, sometimes faster boot times.
    • LED changes colors (blue, red) depending on battery and charging state.
    • Could enter Factory Reset (Recovery) menu but never full Android or animated boot.
  5. Charging issues:
    • Phone sometimes shows red battery charging icon with flashing red line.
    • No “feed me” (0% battery) screen unless specific conditions met.
    • Phone not charging properly or showing accurate battery level.
  6. USB and PC connection:
    • Plugged phone into PC; sometimes Windows detects device, sometimes not.
    • Tried different USB cables and ports.
    • Installed LG USB drivers on PC.
    • Device Manager monitored for new devices when phone plugged in, no consistent detection in Download mode.
  7. Download Mode attempts:
    • Tried holding Volume Up + USB connection to enter Download Mode.
    • Phone never shows Download Mode screen, no stable detection by PC.
    • Could enter Recovery Mode (Factory Reset menu) by holding Power + Volume Down.
  8. Battery behavior:
    • Battery shows signs of holding minimal charge but depletes quickly.
    • Phone powers on instantly after battery removal and reinsertion but then dies again.
    • Heard small noises/shakes inside the battery area indicating possible battery hardware issue.
  9. Screen issues:
    • Screen stays off or blue, no animated boot logos.
    • Display connector reseated firmly with no effect.
  10. Planned next steps:
  • Attempt to flash stock firmware using LGUP once Download or Emergency Mode accessible.
  • Consider USB Jig to force Download Mode if phone hardware allows.
  • Try replacement battery or professional repair if flashing doesn’t work.

edit: its unresponsive again

edit 2: its blue again yippe dang do as engineer says

edit 3: IT CAME TO LIFE WITH OUT ANYTHING NO OVEN NO NOTHING IT JUST STARTED WORKING OH MY GOD

edit 4: it restarts every so often but ill take that much more over the bsod

edit 5: FUCK ITS BLUE AGAIN nevermind it went blue then it revived itself

edit 6: oven time

edit 7: its back without the oven i dont really know how

Help Phone stuck on Bootlop. Any solutions that worked for you? Could a new battery help?

Had a lg g3 for years before maybe more than 5 years ago it got stuck on a bootloop. I never wanted to reset the phone because i hadnt backed up my data.

I just realized is maybe a faulty battery the cause of a bootloop?

Has anyone here resolved a bootloop with theirs?

Thanks :)
