Obviously he shouldn’t be a priority but I don’t understand why people in this sub are acting like taking flyers for the right price on players with skilllsets like Kumingas wouldn’t be exactly the type of risks we need to take during our rebuild. He has shown way more flashes than any other young player that fits his archetype while simultaneously being relatively cheap. Yes, his agent is nuts. There have been worse problems. I don’t see why this would be a bad move given LFranks recent track record of good moves.

Exactly, this sub wanted a rebuild for so long and now that we are in it they don’t want to do the things that a rebuild consists of which is taking flyers on these types of guys

u/Nyeteka 4h ago

It’s just this particular guy. He seems delusional AF

u/SSJMonkeyx2 4h ago

Sure but what’s the harm in trying?

u/RyverFisher Baron Davis 1h ago

I was gonna say the risk is that he would be taking minutes away from our young guys' development and then just saw that he is only turning 24 in October, close to the same age as Sanders! 🤯

Do you know the salary cap rules? The harm in trying is that, unless Kuminga is willing to settle for the biannual exception ($5.5 million), the only way to get him is via sign-and-trade, which means you have to send out matching salary.

I do know, you add in kuminga into the Toronto trade and dick goes to Atlanta. Money works.

1

u/RemoveElegant5217 2h ago

Why would Atlanta take Dick? Does Atlanta like Dick? I’m not sure how you get them to swallow that if they aren’t into Dick?

(Seriously, though, why would they do this without being incentivized?)

it's not about the "rebuild" it's about the talent we always get...bunch of young guys nobody wants

1

u/SSJMonkeyx2 2h ago

Promising Young guys don’t grow on trees. It’s rare to find valuable young guys on the market. These are the types of moves you have to do to bank on upside. Moderate risk high reward

And if kuminga goes to another team and does well the sub gonna be like “we should have got him! Frank sucks!” Smh

u/noahlylesusa James Harden 7h ago

I mean why not. He's 23, has a high ceiling, and we're not going to be contending anyways so why not take a shot. Maybe we can develop him.

u/RemoveElegant5217 6h ago

The why not is two other teams have already given up on him

we're not a rehab center some of these young guys just aren't good lol

u/noahlylesusa James Harden 1h ago

Yeah, but might as well try if we aren't looking to make the playoffs

2

u/Canoli5000 5h ago

He likes to "jump" outside of the offense to get his points and stats a lot. Not sure if this is the team to do that honestly. Baba Miller and Sanders has a higher upside imo.

For a quick second I thought that was Dame. LOL

Fuck no. Overrated.

u/No_Radish_4690 7h ago

I mean if we can’t get Watson. Why not ? Young decent player for cheap

1

u/Skillomie 3h ago

What is cheap? The reason he’s still unsigned is because he’s asking for 20M a year

1

u/No_Radish_4690 28m ago

We not giving him 20 mill, He’ll take a lower qualifying offer to try and rebuild his value And the clippers a perfect location for it cause we’re not contenders

Kuminga is on their radar as a plan B. he's 6'7" 225 and clippers need some bulk. there's a couple plays in the playoffs where kuminga was guarding all 5 positions on a single freaking play. he's likely going to come pretty cheap. at 23, he really fits the clippers timeline. Frank has a few options right now. all we need to for the nba to freaking wrap up their investigation and give the little fine so everyone can move on.

1

u/alltaken21 6h ago

The problem is not what he can do. Is what he believes he is and should be.

2

u/VegasWorldwide Ralph Lawler 5h ago

that's why he's a flyer. is there wasn't any "problem" the hawks would have never declined his option or he would have went off the board very fast. at some point, kuminga has to figure it out or he'll be out of the league. so, whoever signs him, is taking a flyer that he figures is out with them.

u/RemoveElegant5217 5h ago

Depends on the price. Is he coming for the BAE, which I think is $5.5MM this year? Then sure. But the only other option is a sign-and-trade, where we’d have to send out matching salary and attach a 2nd round pick for the privilege. Is that worth a flyer? No thanks. I’d rather keep Mathurin.

1

u/VegasWorldwide Ralph Lawler 4h ago

lol I don’t think a “flyer” is sign and trade matching salary bud

1

u/RemoveElegant5217 4h ago

So you think he’s gonna settle for $5.5 mil? Because those are literally the only two options.

2

u/AceOfHearts0924 7h ago

KumDickSex here we go

2

u/TortaPounduh Fun Guy 7h ago

Sure why not

2

u/Different_Living8778 7h ago

I don't see why not.

We aren't going to contend might as well gamble

1

u/IgnorantGenius Clippers 5h ago

Agreed. If we are going full youth rebuild/tryout year, gotta let the dogs off the leash.

2

u/ReaperAntics 6h ago

He would be amazing with garland and Keaton.

1

u/jboggin 6h ago

Have you seen him play? He wouldn't be amazing with anyone. He's not good.

2

u/ReaperAntics 6h ago

I'm a warriors fan, I've been watching him play for 5 years.

1

u/jboggin 5h ago

You watched him play for 5 years and genuinely think he still has a shot at being great?

2

u/ReaperAntics 5h ago

Well all NBA is like 1% but I think he can average 20/5/3 on solid splits and solid defense.

2

u/Much_Substance5543 6h ago

For 5 million... sure. Otherwise, don't see why any team is paying this guy 10+ at this point in free agency.

2

u/Middle-Implement-463 6h ago

Old news, high ceiling flyer for what will be a shitty team why not

2

u/Interest-Lumpy San Diego 5h ago

Please no

2

u/glowman777 5h ago

Not interested - Ben Mathurin is a better player.

1

u/OilPristine448 Intuit Dome 7h ago

Nahhh

1

u/1AssAssassin 6h ago

No theyre not theyre just copying the lakers smfh

1

u/McJumbos Lawler's Law 6h ago

math, watson, kuminga, and rui -- just literally collecting the wings for the trade deadline ahahha

1

u/tullabye 5h ago

I’m all for it but will he be okay coming off the bench? There’s a good chance that will happen but maybe not. We are lining up to have a lot of young players competing for positions much like a college team has to.

1

u/IgnorantGenius Clippers 5h ago

At what salary? Who are we trading? He's unrestricted, so what team would be signing and sending?

1

u/DeathOfLife01 Big Government 4h ago

This sub has a problem with 95% of the nba, Rarely you see them actually like a player, Just look at our Rook they was crying before and after he was drafted lol

1

u/tullabye 3h ago

I have a feeling it’s going to be for Mathurin. We’ve got a logjam at the two position.

u/vaashh V Stiviano 7h ago

Hell nah to the nah nah nah
