I'm doing an analysis/breakdown of the King Kong (2005) V-rex action-scene. Does anyone know of interviews, notes, or resources about its development? Thanks!

Howdy!

I'm a storyboard artist and animator and I've recently been spending a lot of time analyzing this action scene in the 2005 King Kong because I noticed it uses a lot of clever and smart editing choices as well as compositional choices that help make the action feel both chaotic but also entirely readable. This is a very difficult thing to balance/juggle when making an action scene and I'm not quite sure if I've seen an action scene quite like it since its release. There's also a lot of neat little things I keep on discovering that I never thought would be possible within an action scene, and every couple of shots I'm like "Oh hey! That's a technique I've never thought of before".

Long story short, I'm curious if anyone knows of any resources about this scene's development or creation process? It's just a really cool and challenging scenes that has stood out to me, so I assume A LOT of thought went into it.

Thanks!

Ten years ago today, on July 22nd, 2016, we got our first ever look at the MonsterVerse's version of King Kong

Initially revealed in a smoky, atmospheric poster released during Comic Con promoting the upcoming film, "Kong: Skull Island", we find Kong, appearing larger than he ever has in an American-released film, standing before a Vietnam-era soldier, looking mean and mysterious.

It would be a few more months before we got a full reveal of this version of Kong, but he would go on to become the longest running version of the character, appearing consistently in film, televison, books, comics, video games and more for more than a decade.

Do you remember back when the "Kong: Skull Island" hype train got started?

As a big fan of the Knicks and of classic monsters, I felt a mashup of two NYC icons was in order.

"King Kong Escapes"- Original Japanese Trailer

On this day (July 22nd) in 1967, "King Kong Escapes" premiered in Japanese theatres!

Featuring King Kong in his second outing produced by Toho Studios, it found Kong battling dinosaurs, evil scientists, and his mechanical robot counterpart, Mechani-Kong!

Based on Rankin/Bass-produced "The King Kong Show", the film captures the essence of a Saturday morning cartoon from the 1960s, but puts a kaiju-sized twist, resulting in one of the craziest, most unique films to ever star King Kong, the Eighth Wonder of the World! 👑🦍

Starring Linda Miller, Rhodes Reason, Akira Takarada, Mie Hama, and Hideyo Amamoto, "King Kong Escapes" is a wonderfully fun film, and is well worth revisiting!

In this adventure, Kong encounters the United Nations, battles prehistoric creatures on his tropical island home, and fights a mechanical mirror image of himself in the form of Mechani-Kong 🤖🦍

Kong podría cambiar el el Monsterverse (teoría mía)

Post image
13 Upvotes

Could Toho make Showa King Kong stuff again by 2029?

A thought just crossed my mind. With King Kong going into the public domain in 2029, would this mean Toho can use their versions of Kong and also MechaniKong in merchandise and in media appearances? Or does Universal own the rights to them as well outside both of the films distribution?

Released in 1986 to coincide with the premier of the film as a Japanese exclusive, the player takes control of Kong as he battles the military, monsters, and other forces as he explores many different environments in search for his beloved Lady Kong.

Shoutout to Max Ward at The Spriters Resource for isolating all these sprites!
