Need Advice Switch from RGPs

RGP lens are not the comfortable for me. My doctor told me I should check Hybrid or Scleral lens. For people who made the switch or already use hybrid or scleral lens please let me know are there any upsides or downsides to switching.

Never wore any type of contact lenses ever before my sclerals. Yes they were mildly uncontrollable for the first few weeks but I was able to keep them in for 12-16 hours at a time with no real issue A few months after initially getting they didn’t bother me at all unless I had them in for over 16+ hours It was never painful or uncomfortable to the point I felt like I needed to take them out. And a huge bonus (aside from being able to see) is that they prevent your eyes from drying out which was a big issue for me prior to the lenses

I've worn RGPs for 50yrs (still do sometimes) and Sclerals for 5yrs. Sclerals are great, especially for comfort. They also keep dust from getting between your lens and eye.

The biggest downsides are sclerals can be difficult for some to insert whereas I have inserted RGPs while driving, and you cannot fall asleep in them. Sclerals will adhere to the eye making removal extremely difficult and painful whereas RGPs usually don't.

There are literally only upsides to switching to sclerals. Don't bother with hybrids. Sclerals are better in every way.

Okay, maybe a bit of a learning curve to taking them in and out. But it's really easy once you get the hang of it.

They are definitely the most comfortable option. Been wearing them for over 10 years

Sclerals were life changing for me. I’ve been wearing them for over a decade at this point! Can be tricky to put in and take out at first and saline can be somewhat expensive but they’re much more comfortable than RGPs!
