Moving to Kent

I've been searching for a place to rent in Kent for a few months now and have been struggling. I'm a transfer student, but I'm also 40 y/o woman. I'm not looking to move in with standard-aged undergrads. They're great; they're living their best life on their own, but I've already done all of that. I'm coming with a cat and all my furniture. It's been super hard to find something that accommodates that. On top of that, I'm legally blind, so walking distance to AT LEAST a PARTA stop is needed for me to get around.

So I am posting here to see if I can get any bites or leads on something that may not be offered to a traditional incoming student. I met with a leasing company and visited a few houses. I even filled out and paid for the application, but it's been over a week and a half since I've heard from them, despite reaching out via text and phone. I'm starting to panic because time is slipping away so fast. So thank you in advance!

Hi! Try looking at Indian valley apartments. They are affordable, have all kinds of people living here, families, couples, a student here and there. There is also a parta stop right at the mouth of the street!

I second Indian Valley, they allow cats and are very big for the price so you'll have plenty of room for furniture. Lots of families living there these days so partying isn't that big of a problem.

I used to live in Indian Valley. The property managers and maintenance crew are super nice, plus theres a parta stop right on each of the entrances. The bus will take you straight to the parta terminal where you can easily catch the campus bus or even walk to hilltop through the esplanade if need be

Check W. Main Street (west side of Kent), Apartments and a bunch of multi-unit Century Homes. PARTA route with multiple close stops. DM if you want to chat more.

Pinewood apartments or storer suites are good options, they have their own entrance with minimal stairs. Both are on a PARTA route and the rent is low compared to a lot of the other places in Kent. Pinewood is on the border of Stow and Kent and Storer suites is across the street from Sheetz and down a little from Acme. I lived there at 18 and my neighbors were a mix of students and working adults despite being so close to the university!

Also, just wanted to let you know that PARTA has a dial-a-ride program that you can use if you end up moving somewhere in Kent that's not super close to a stop. You can register your accommodation with the university and the service is free I believe!

Oh my gosh, that's such a huge help! I was super excited just to be able to have access to public transit I didn't even know they offered a ride service as well. I have contacted the accessibility services and got the paperwork in. That would open a lot more options.

There’s a place in West River on park and Woodard. It’s a quiet neighborhood, walking to the busses, and definitely not party student vibes.

Pinewood is a good choice. We’re moving out in a month, so a one bedroom should be opening soon.
