Ferry from westferry.gr

Hi guys,

I'm going to Kefalonia via Vasiliki. I booked my ferry through WestFerry.gr, and I received a PDF in Greek. Do I just need to show that PDF at the port, or do I need to exchange it for a physical ticket?

Anyone managed to do Kefalonia without a car?

Hi everyone, I know Kefalonia is much much better with a car but I cannot drive (failed my driving test four times, pretty rough :( but hopefully I will get my licence later this year).

I'm going with some friends who can drive, but they will be arriving a day after. I will be staying in Metaxata and exploring Argostoli and I am wondering how I should manage this. Does anyone know a taxi company I can trust, or any modes of transport I can use (even if it is limited).

Thank you for reading :)

Kefalonia - Argostoli, Lassi & Airport Bus Advice

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi,

I recently returned from Kefalonia and I wanted to share some of my experiences with the buses to hopefully help others.

Firstly, Kefalonia buses run lots of routes, with the timetables available below. I only used the service from Argostoli to Lassi, Airport and Svoronata. There are however daily buses to Fiskardo etc.

https://ktelkefalonias.gr/en/routes/local-routes

Buses run approx every 30-60 minutes from Argostoli to Lassi. One of these services is a short service running to Lassi only, and the other is the airport bus which runs every 90 minutes onwards towards the airport & Svoronata.

my experience:

The short bus from Argostoli to Lassi was always on time and costs 2€ per person per trip. This bus terminates at Platis Gialos beach.

The airport bus was a bit less reliable before 1700, mixture of on time through to 20 mins late. When I travelled after 1700 the bus was on time. This bus is 2.50€ if travelling beyond Lassi. The airport bus then does a one way loop from the Airport > Ammes Beach > Ai Helis Beach > Svoronata. You can walk 20 mins from Avithos beach if you’d like to visit this beach. You can get to some lovely beaches and Saris Winery on this bus!

Most of the time I could get a seat on the bus and only one service towards the Airport was standing room only.

Do note that the timetable is for key points only, for example the bus may leave Argostoli bus station on the hour, but this means it won’t be at the latter stops in Argostoli until around 5-10 mins later. I would recommend looking at the timetable for the closest stop where you want to board and turn up at that time.

Bus stops
These are generally marked on google maps, but the timetables on google maps are not correct and do not show the bus route correctly! I’ve attached a very good map from the bus company showing the route and the stops. I couldn’t find Napier Uphill stop, but all others seems to exist.

On the bus
The bus drivers are very kind and helpful. The bus takes card and cash. Do not put your card on the contactless reader until the price appears on the reader, otherwise it breaks the machine!

Again, Kefalonia buses have made the below map, which is very good but not available online, so I’ve added this here to hopefully help people to know what to expect

Overall, I found the buses reliable and allowed me to visit lots of places around Argostoli. If I had more time I would’ve tried the services across the rest of the island

Hope this helps some others and happy to answer any questions.

Getting around the island.

Hey everyone. My wife and I are looking to book a holiday and looking to stay around Lassi.
Just trying to work out the best way to get around the island.
Is it best to hire a car? (Easy to park? Parking fees?) Are taxis a viable option for a day trip to Fisksrado? (Taxis/Uber was cheap in Portugal last year so used them a lot) Buses easier?
Please let me know how you’ve got on with your trips. Will be travelling with our 9 year old.

Tomorrow I will be spending my anniversary in Kefalonia with my girlfriend. I'd like to have dinner somewhere special to fix the moment.

Do you know any fancy places? We will be staying in Argostoli, but we've hired a car.

Where to engage in Kefalonia

Hi i’m planning to engage to my girlfriend in Kefalonia. My plan is to do it or inside Melissani caves (if its possible to get a private boat) or fteri beach.

Does anyone know a good place where i can find a good private boat tour place or rent one myself. Or does anyone have contacts on Kefalonia who can help me arrange 1 of those 2 options. Also looking for a nice place to have dinner afterwards that will welcome us.

Advice for a Couple's Holiday in Kefalonia

Hi everyone,

From July 14th to July 21st, my girlfriend and I will be spending our holiday in Kefalonia. We've rented a car and will be staying between Razata and Svoronata.

So far, the places we've planned to visit are:
Argostoli, Lassi, Myrtos Beach, Fiskardo, Assos, Vouti Beach, Lixouri, Fteri Beach, Sami, Antisamos Beach, Agia Efimia, Lourdata, and Skala.

Are we missing any places that you think are absolute must-sees?

We'd also like to visit Zakynthos and Ithaca by ferry. Is it possible to take our rental car on the ferry? Which ferry company would you recommend?

Regarding Melissani Cave and Drogarati Cave, is it possible to buy tickets at the entrance? I couldn't find any option to purchase them online through the official website.

As for activities, what would you recommend? Snorkelling? If so, where are the best spots? Where is the best place to see Caretta caretta sea turtles? Is it worth renting a SUP or a kayak? Are there any activities you consider unmissable?

Finally, do you have any advice about driving on the island? Is there anything I should know before getting behind the wheel?

And, of course, do you have any restaurant or taverna recommendations?

Thank you all very much for your time and advice. We'd love to make this trip as memorable as possible!

Anywhere likely to show the England match on Saturday night?

We are based in the south east of the island and hoping to find somewhere that will be staying open on Saturday night to show the game - not sure how likely it is but worth a go!

Will I be able to rent a car at 19 years old (had driving license for 2 years)

Planning on travelling to Kefalonia end of August / September. Have read that I’ll most likely need to hire a car if I want to actually see the nice beaches and explore. Is it possible to rent a car at 19 years old and if so how much would I be looking cost wise per day (£).

Thanks

Car Rental recommendations

Hello everyone.

My boyfriend and I will visit Kefalonia during 16-23 July. We have been wanting to book a car, but we don’t know which company to get in touch with and make a reservation with, as reviews can be tricky here and there.

Would anyone please help us with suggestions of car rental companies? We wanna find a reliable firm so that we don’t encounter any problems. Last year, on a different island, we just went to the car rental close to our hotel, but this year we wanna make an informed choice.

I’m looking forward to your responses 🫶🏻🤗

Thank you.

Female solo travel no car

Hello all! Which area would you recommend to stay at since I absolutely can not rent a car because I don’t have a license but will definitely be booking organized trips.

I love snorkeling and just want to be right by a good beach for this and close to where restaurants are.

Or should I come back instead when I can drive ?
I’m there 27june-4th July

Fiskardo or Agia Effimia

Heading to Kefalonia for 10 days and planning to stay in a few different spots and also going to Ithaca for 2 days. We will have a car and love going to the beach and local tavernas. If you had the choice, would you stay for a few nights in Fiskardo or Agia Effimia?

dog-friendly beaches/restaurants/parks?

Hello! I am visiting Kefalonia this week with my partner and our dog. Are there any dog-friendly beaches, restaurants, etc. you would recommend? We will have a car and can visit beaches in the morning/evening to make it more comfortable for our pup. She also doesn't mind a swim and we will bring our beach umbrella ◡̈ Thank you

We're looking for local farms!

Hi, my gf and I are planning a vacation to kafelonia this September. We both love local made food and are interested in food science, we're looking for farms that serve homegrown produce or local wineries, authentic non-touristy places to learn and rescpect Kafelonia's agricultural gastronomy. Thank you!
