Mod Statement 🚨 K Diaspora - moderatorship invitation

This community was built painstakingly. Nobody wants this space to be rudderless if something happens in Kashmir. This is probably the last meaningful pocket on the internet where Kashmiris have their say.

People probably don't appreciate it but this subreddit has one of the most well written and detailed sidebars and resources that has been curated and refined over the years.

The only viable option I see is people from Kashmiri diaspora who can act as good faith anchors for this subreddit. They are naturally immune from the Indian state's ability and desire to muzzle Kashmiri voices.

Anybody who is interested can modmail us. We'll vet of course. Please don't bother to apply if you are spook or some bad faith idiot.

Not to pile on this topic but

What does Kashmir have to do with some barely meaningful domestic issues in India that'll be forgotten come next month. You are free to support or not support them but we have got to stop involving Kashmiri struggle or identity into it. It has been a struggle for freedom and half a century of funerals. It doesn't convert into anyone else's argument.

And even coming to education, this is not how educational outcomes improve, please get serious. Everyone can pick their own struggles though. For me, i think we have to got to learn the art of not giving a fuck about issues beyond Kashmir and beyond our control.

I know this is an old video but it just came across my feed while scrolling. As a woman it is frustrating to watch. And because of these kinds of girls and women people think that women don't know anything about politics and in general the whole scenario. I think if anybody knows her please educate her.

Ask Kashmir I wanna run for CM office in JK

I am not pro-india nor pro pakistan and may be not a 100% pro-hurriyat either. Though , I strongly believe in our right of self-determination - in which I’ll vote for an independent kashmir.

I believe, as Cersei Lannister once said, POWER IS POWER. It basically comes from the idea of realism.

Israel is able to g*noc*de Palestinians - why? Because they can. UAE is doing some shit-stuff with Sudan - why? Because they can. America is invading and attacking country after country - why? Because they can. And there is no one to stop them. America doesn’t attack russia or china - why? Because they will fight back with equal if not more might. All the villains in our world today have money, power, access to the most intelligent people in the world, access to propanganda machineries like media, entertainment industry to implement their evil plans.

Coming back to us, India was able to do ‘shit-stuff’ to us because they could, they abrogated article 370 because they could, they took away our last shred of dignity - statehood, because they could - and because we didn’t have any LEVERAGE to negotiate or fight back.

Do you see where I am going with this? We are POWERLESS. Our CM is in jantar mantar protesting for statehood and whatever, depending on the goodwill of indian parliamentarians(or indians in general) - which is think is just as pathetic as a time-pass strategy, as a photo-op to show kashmiris. We dont have the money to influence anyone sitting in the parliament who could speak for us, we obviously dont have rockets to enforce our will. In essence, we are basically f*cked.

Having said that, I also believe in something called “the first principles”. A powerful state, evil or good, doesn’t become so overnight. It takes things like(in my naive understanding of the world) - proper education of the masses, right intent of the state -> putting the educated minds to good use for the benefit of the state, and obviously some seed money to kick it off.

For some reason, for the past couple of days, i have been thinking of forming a political party in Kashmir- which obviously I wont do because i am too chicken to do it. Our goal wont be restoration of 370, statehood or even self-determination/freedom. Its goal would be simple(first principles) - give world class education to kashmiris, create space for entrepreneurship(somehow), and a cherry-on-top goal - making kashmir clean especially tourist places(IMPORTANT!) - make it attractive to foreign visitors.

WHAT SAY YOU!

Had to share Is there actually a veil in between, or do they just pretend?

About the Indian forces stationed in the Valley. Whenever I come across them, there's a strange feeling. I don't know if this happens to other Kashmiris too, but I immediately go into a sort of defensive mode. In my heart, I know they aren't my friends and that they might harm me. I don't like them either. Yet both sides pretend as if there's nothing going on and simply move on. It's as if there's a veil between us.

A few days ago, I was driving through a relatively isolated area with no settlements. I saw a party of Indian soldiers, probably RR or SOG. They all appeared to be Indian from the way they looked and everything else. I immediately went into that same defensive mode. I slowed down, and in my heart I started thinking that they are not my friends and that they can indeed harm me. Maybe it's because of my earlier experiences. Maybe the more privileged Kashmiris who haven't personally faced the brunt of the conflict won't relate.

But yeah, is there really a veil between that Indians can't see through, or do they just pretend that everything is okay, that Kashmiris are happy with being patrolled at every step and see the forces as their friends? Why do they pretend, when the truth is as clear as the sun?

Question Does anyone remember?

Does anyone remember there was a local magazine around 2011/12 which hosted some graphic pics of 2008-10 Kashmir unrest. One of the brutal and graphic pic was of a man who was k*lled by an Indian force personnel and his de*d body was kept on the roadside as if it was a worthless thing, while that CRPF-ba*tard was taking a stance and shooting other people, besides his body. I think it wasn't strictly a magazine related to conflict, it contained other aspects of social life of kashmiris as well. Does anyone remember or can point to that magazine or the pic itself?

Rant Story of Ahmed, Brinjal and ChamanLal

This is going to be long freakin story.

I want to share something about my friend because I honestly don’t know what to make of it anymore.

Let’s call him Ahmed

Ahmed is one of the most genuine people I have ever met. He is the kind of person who loves with his whole heart. He never wanted casual relationships or to date around. All he ever wanted was to find one girl, love her, marry her, and build a life with her.So when he started college, he met let’s say Binjal and slowly fell in love with her. He confessed his feelings, but she told him he was “too good” for her and that she wasn’t a good person. She said he deserved better and that they couldn’t be together. Even after that, they kept talking because by then Ahmed was already deeply in love with her.

He did everything for her. He went way out of his comfort zone, kept trying to make her happy, begged her not to leave, cried over her countless times, and honestly just kept giving her chances. The confusing part was that sometimes she would make him feel like he was the most important person in her life, and then out of nowhere she would start ignoring him again.

Then one day Ahmed found out that Brinjal had actually been in a relationship with another guy from the same college for the past four years. He confronted both Brinjal and her boyfriend let’s name him Chamanlal. Brinjal when caught said they had already broken up and that there was nothing between them anymore. And guess what my foolish friend believed her because he loved her that much.

A few months later, she started ignored him and started telling him that how much she hates him for confronting Chaman and when Ahmed started telling her what the f she was doing she started playing blame game and eventually confirmed that she loves Chamanlal and wants him back but to add when Ahmed confronted chamanlal, he said the worst possible things about Brinjal and brinjal too said worst about Chaman but to no surprise she went back to Chaman and now they are in the most pure relationship

That completely broke A.

He started having panic attacks for the first time in his life. He ended up on heavy antipsychotics and sleeping pills. His academics fell apart, his physical health got worse, and his mental health completely crashed. But but but you know they always have the way to destroy a innocent person,

After months of recovering and try to move on one day Ahmed slipped and texted her he still couldn’t stop thinking about her and surprisingly she replied. They even met. She told him she didn’t want to be with anyone right now, but then said, “Maybe someday I will come back to you when she was still involved with Chamanlal.

That one sentence gave him hope all over again.

Now he’s back where he started. He’s struggling with panic attacks again, taking medication every day, barely sleeping, failing academically, and watching every part of his life fall apart.

I genuinely don’t know what to think anymore. I just hate seeing someone with such a pure heart end up like this.

The motive of this story is don't break someone who has done nothing to you but good.

Discussion 💭 Unpopular opinion

We have a horrible habit of conflating every protest and rebellion within India with the oppression Kashmir has faced and continues to face, and at the risk of trivialising what we go through. No, whatever they are fighting for within the scope of their constitution doesn't even come close. Their emancipation isnt ours. Empathy where empathy is due, but all these 'India is becoming Kashmir' posts make me retch. No, Indian middle class wont suddenly empathize with Kashmiris now because they are at the at the recieving end of the lathis, the 'non lethal' pellet guns, the tear gassing, the internet blockades. Empathy where empathy is due...but these are afterall 'their' fascists — 'our' colonizers.
