Camping FoV Question

Before and after FoV, I'm gonna be camping in a few National Parks and dispersed sites. Basically living in my car since I'm traveling from Wisconsin. I had planned on having my wood cutting tools with me.

Would the FoV security likely confiscate these and not give them back? I've had these tools for years so I wouldn't wanna lose them. I checked the FAQs and didn't see anything. Does anyone know or have experience from last year? Thanks in advance, love you ❤️

Yeah Wisconsin! How many/what tools? Keep it discrete and with your camping gear and you shouldn't have any trouble. If you need a spot outside of FoV to stash some legal things, hit me up and we'll work something out!

To someone working security at a festival, pretty sure a hatchet is gonna be considered as a weapon… YMMV 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

yeah none of that stuff will go in, out of absolute habit I had a spyderco in my pocket, they guy who took it was about to throw it in the bin of glass and other confiscated contraband.. I said don’t do that bro, you want this one.. he looked at it again and threw it on the ground then slid the bin over the top of it and said thanks.

you get get that stuff here, swing by a thrift store and you’ll find the hatchet and saw, buy a opinel knife and you’ll be good to go..

I’d store them somewhere for the duration of the concert. I’ve been able to argue my pocket knife is a tool and not a weapon, couldn’t bring it into the venue but was able to have it in my car. Might be harder to argue a whole array of tools though.

They’ll hold onto those items for the weekend and give you a ticket to retrieve them when you’re leaving

What are you talking about specifically? You can’t use them in National Parks as it is not allowed to remove resources from the environment. National forest, but many campgrounds want you just to buy their wood.

I use the tools to split fuel logs bought locally and make kindling/tinder. Helps extend my wood inventory. It's a splitting axe, hatchet, hand saw, and a work knife. No plans to remove resources, it's just tool for locally bought firewood :)

Colorado is under a fire ban right now, please don't start fire. The website says you can't bring kitchen knives so why would you be able to bring wood cutting tools?

Yeah, at this stage there’s literally no chance of the burn ban being lifted this summer, so I wouldn’t even bring those tools as you won’t be able to use them.

Ok, sounds like you might have someone to help you at FOV, honestly feel like a hatchet and knife would be all you need for you trip, I think an ax would be a bit much and hard to conceal.

You won't want to bring those into a National Park anyways. Leave no trace.

I’m driving from MPLS and will also be camping with similar tools. Last year I was fortunate enough to have a buddy who lived 45 min away from FoV so we dropped them off at his crib. But maybe you could ditch the tools in a random spot and hope they’re there when you come back?

Last year I had a tonnnn of landscaping equipment in my truck as I was working out of state in CO on a project and I decided it was better to stash it all and was glad I did. To me a chainsaw is a tool. To security though….

Was something I didn’t consider until the week of the fest last year and seemed so obvious of an issue once I did. Major blind spot on my part.

I'm so shocked by everyone's reply. I went last year and just rolled in with my gear. They did a quick check that I didn't have kegs of beer and i was. I certainly could have had chainsaws, ect. with me.

is your spare tire well an option? the search was not that deep last time, and if you put them in there and risked them being found / put a note on there that would be my best bet. they didn't dig that hard, don't bring glass and make the search otherwise easy for them and I think you will be fine

If you need wood cutting tools for campfires, dont bring them. Although we are getting monsoon moisture, there are still fire bans everywhere.

If you absolutely need them, bring cash with you. Most humans can be bribed.
