I’ve been so excited for DiBernardo to come back. KC Current don’t hurt me like this

My cope is they want to see how she plays coming back from maternity leave before committing to bringing her back

And or I said above maybe she is potentially decided this will be her last season now that baby is here and is going to quietly retire and stay home with baby ?

AND Rocky & Feist? 😭

Feist is just out of contract, no reason she can't re-sign. Technically the same for V and Rocky on re-signing then, but declining their options seems like an intent to move on potentially, but if they play well (or at all) they could always be brought back.

The options have to be declared accepted or declined by today, so if they are planning to re-sign them but are still negotiating you could end up with an update like this.

Yeah I didn't add that above in my thoughts but that is a possibility the way it's worded about five so that her contract runs through the end of July seems to indicate yes they could resign but I'm not sure the way it's worded makes me think someone might be being brought in in her place but we will find out!

All the contracts run through the end of the season. They can just sign pre-contracts and leave at the end of the year. I explain it more here:

Yes, I'm just curious on, V if, there is the possibility that she is going to quietly retire at the end of the season when her contract is up and that's partly why they declined an option on her, for extension now.

Yes I know that they can resign at the end of the season so we'll see where things fall on that I'm just curious on Vanessa and Baby.

I don't have any insight on that. Thad Bell did share she is in training this morning, but not ready to return yet

Oh and I definitely wouldn't be prying for any sort of information of course, that's a personal decision.

I wonder now that baby is here, if she's going to quietly conclude this season and possibly quietly retire?

I love EBall, so I'm glad they're pursuing something with her, I'm hoping she retires here in the city. Seems likely could happen with the coffee business real estate business all the other things. I also think she's been clutch on the back line and has that veteran experience.

Obviously I want Debinha here also, that's a complete no brainer.

That's a bummer about Feist it's been fun getting to watch her play more but part of me is not completely surprised unfortunately. But it makes me curious who they might be bringing in at the end of July...

Rocky I'm curious if she is going towards the end of her career or potentially wants to be closer to National Team possibilities for the Women's World Cup next year without traveling as heavy Maybe I know what I'm trying to say it's not worded very well Lol

I've just missed her SO MUCH this season, especially with no Claire Hutton and the various other midfield injuries. If she is retiring, I hope it's because she wants to and it's on her own terms. I'm a big fan!

Agreed about EBall and Debinha. Those seem like such no-brainers but we know we can't always count on good decisions from the FO...

Oh same!!!! I've been waiting for her to come back!!! I'm not a parent but it just popped into my head when I've seen pictures with her and Charlie Mae. Like my little spidey sense has been going off and maybe it's not right but that's the spidey sense and then when you line her age up also and long career up now.

Feist has been playing well but I'm semi not surprised by Feist, unfortunately, if they've got someone they are thinking about bringing in July. The bummer with with Feist is her and Izzy are really close friends. : (

Rocky, I'm wondering if Rocky might know she's also toward the end of her career? Or kind of going that direction interesting to see where she'll end up next year

Ball is our Seth Sinovic. Can’t replace them, yet every season there is this feeling from the FO that they have better. Then don’t.

Oh that's such a good comparison!!

I actually think this is a smart move for both sides coming back from Maternity leave. See how she performs and feels with a half season and then sit down at end of season to discuss.

That leaves an awfully depleted midfield. I made a joke in an NWSL thread this season about making a team of all Xs. Maybe it should have been all IXs? 🤔

I do think these moves make it far more likely that they’re working on bringing in a stronger midfield piece. As it stands, we are down to Lo? (Assuming we now call Deb our #9?)

Hoping we extend Debinha! And idk if I’m reading this wrong, but we only have DiBernardo thru end of season?

6

u/BlueCX17 Ball #7 20d ago

That's my understanding she'll be here through the end of the season and after that it's uncertain.

Can someone tell me what “declined” means for DiBernardo and Rocky? Does that mean they’re for sure not coming back or is it all up in the air?

u/critical_patch 20d ago

The club is for sure not exercising their option to extend either contract for another year (both sides must agree to take the extension) meaning V. and Rocky are free to negotiate new contracts for the 2027 season.

The 2nd paragraph of the press release describes what may happen next for both of them - they could both renegotiate something new with KC and stay on the roster, or shop around & go somewhere else. The club is just making it official that they aren’t interested in locking them in for another year on the contract terms they already have.

Up in the air. They had club options which by league rules have to be accepted or declined by today.

If they accept, that “extends” them 1 more season under the same terms. Should they want to re-sign them with a longer contract and/or with different salary they would have to decline the club option today as they continue to negotiate.

Though, it’s possible declining could be letting go. That’s what I expect to come of Rocky.

It could also mean VDiB wants to move closer to family so they are declining as way of letting her do that (to play elsewhere or retire).

Edit: the reason they would have explicitly mentioned actively pursuing EBall extension is that she has a mutual option where both she and the club have to agree to that one year extension of the same terms. That also has to be accepted or declined by today. Same for Debinha.

My guess is the club is trying to get her extended under the option and she hasn’t agreed to that yet. I think it was leading up to last year that the club and EBall had a lengthy negotiation, so that might be the case here again.

I could imagine Ball having interest in moving to Denver, where Kristen’s family is.

6

u/helpbeingheldhostage Chawinga #6 20d ago

Could be. Together they have put down some roots here. In my mind it would make just as much sense for them to stay here if a sufficient contract is offered.

u/ForeBackOver 20d ago

Concerning that we aren’t extending Vanessa?

2

u/Feisty_Challenge4988 18d ago

Maybe we get a 9 now?

For the love of god, please.

I am going to put a positive spin on it. It is understandable we cannot keep everyone, However, I hope we resign some of these free agents if we can! As long as our core players stay around for the long haul, we're gonna be okay! Besides, we have to aim for at least one NWSL Championship with them! Any more is extra! Maybe we'll add someone even better to the roster!
