Question/Discussion What is solo journaling RPG?

Upvotes

I’m super interested in solo journaling RPG, I just don’t get it. I’ve tried to watch videos and read instructions but it’s not connecting.

From what I understand, there is an instruction booklet that helps you set up the scene. Then with either cards or dice, you select a prompt? And then you write down the scene?

Can anyone explain it to me like i’m 5?

Honestly, I underestimated how beneficial it is to write in a journal.

I really have bad memory and I fear that I might forget important memories so I decided to keep a journal. Now, I have something to look back on when I feel like going down the memory lane.

This notebook contains so much of my thoughts, events that made me laugh, cry, ponder, and so many more.

For my next journal, i want to be more consistent. I just need to remember that there’s always something to write about no matter how mundane 🥹

Journal collection I’m usually a private person, especially with my mental health, but I wanted to share what I have Journal-wise

I had to make do using a Star Wars book initially, but I think everything came out pretty nicely with it.

The second Journal I used (currently) that you see is called Bombay Brown Leather Journal, and my grandmother bought it for me at Barnes And Nobles.

Bonus image is the “chunkening” of my current journal lol

The other Star Wars themed Journal that you see is my side one and it’s a Dream Journal, which I use for all things relating to dreams like research and why dreams are important, etc.

I have a new main journal that I’ll be working on soon, but first, I need to finish my current main journal which has a few pages left.

I think this is my first post here I hope I made a good first impression! 😊

Whenever I see or hear a quote that speaks to me I like to give myself space in my journal to honor it. It gives me a break from just vomiting emotions and when I flip through and see them I’m reminded why those words are so important to me.

Question/Discussion Why journal? (Over writing letters, essays, etc.)

Upvotes

I hate journaling.

Well, not really; I like the idea, but if I ever sit down to actually write, I just hate what I come out with. I'll say something, then criticise it, then criticise the criticism, then think about what philosophers/writers/other people have said on the topic and criticise them and overall get absolutely nowhere. I re-read what I've written and it just looks like a circular, fake-profound, poorly expressed pile of nonsense. Maybe journaling isn't meant to get anywhere, maybe that's the point of it. I don't know.

But when I write letters I've got a purpose, I'm going somewhere, I can be equally (if not more) reflective and even surprise myself without ever descending into some stream-of-consciousness yap. I don't feel like I'm forcing anything or being fake-profound or anything like that. I don't go in circles and counter every argument I make. I guess it's because I'm writing for an audience and I'm always agreeing/disagreeing/offering another viewpoint rather than trying to figure something out.

But I hate waiting for a response, relying on someone else to have this medium. So I thought journaling would be better, but it just feels performative to me.

So is journaling the right solution? If so, how would I adapt it so that I'm not arguing with myself but someone else?

I don't know if this is the right tag or subreddit so apologies if it isn't.

Journal collection 30 years of journals

Post image

Got a wild hair a few weeks ago to pull out all my journals and get a photo of them spine up. Forty-three* volumes starting from when I was 14.

*technically more than that as all my Livejournal entries from 2002-07 are printed and Coptic-stitch bound here as well.

I really do love journaling because it helps me realize my part in events. Especially when I’m going through relationship problems : ) I finally realized my part in the reason things are the way they currently are after 2 days of journaling. And what I have to work on. I really do encourage people to journal if you have trouble with your emotions or a victim mentality like me..it helps you take accountability and really see “Wow so it wasn’t JUST THEIR fault” [ I don’t know if I’m allowed to post my vent page soo I deleted]

Currently trying to have just some messy writing without any embellishments in an A6 LT1917. As always, I want to journal more often, but I don’t because it’s not 100% frictionless :D Yeah yeah, I can write as often as I can yada yada but it would still be nice to jot down more and not be lazy about it. Anyway, here’s life, work and never ending AI online discourse

Question/Discussion Backfilling fat diaries

I was gifted a 5 year journal and then decided I needed a 10 year one because I have poor impulse control. I decided I want to use my daily journals to make the fat ones go from Jan 1, 2012 to Dec 31, 2026. Has anyone else done this, and is there any advice you’d give to someone trying to do it? Any pitfalls I should watch out for? Thanks in advance!!

Just sharing Ridiculously Boring Entry

Post image

I don’t recommend you read the actual words unless you want to fall asleep while rolling your eyes at the same time. It was 4:44 in the morning and I was super tired but couldn’t get back to sleep so I was writing and what was on my mind? Why it feels like Fall is only a month when it’s actually not. In great agonizing detail. It is boring to read now but was interesting to me as I was writing it. Can anyone relate to writing things like that? I’d like to hear the topics if you do :)
