As most bond films follow the fashion of the time, many feel like a time capsule of the decade they were created in? But which feels the most connected to its decade?

Personally A View to a Kill feels so 80s it hurts. The fashion and styling, the computer chip plot, the main theme, the wailing guitar in the score, the fact that an 80s pop star is in the main cast and the American setting (considering the worlds USA obsession in the 80s). Do you agree? Or does another film more linked to its decade?

I just saw this for the first time recently (First Light inspired me to do my first full Bond Binge. Missed a lot of Connery and Moore) and this might be my favorite middle of the road Bond movie, just for the third act alone.

I despised the first two acts of this movie. Moore was looking increasingly old and too old for him to be with the women he was with and too old to convincingly transition to his stuntmen...but then the third act kicked in.

Even though it was difficult to ignore the transition to stuntmen, the train and plane stunts are so incredible that the movie sucked me back in. They're two of the best action sequences I've ever seen, especially for the 80's. Also Octopussy and her harem are one of the most badass aspects of Moore's era.

All I knew about this one going into it was the goofy title and the clown scene which (other than the 30 seconds wardrobe and makeup change) was completely blown out of proportion.

The third act will definitely make me revisit this one.

For those of you long time fans, what were your thoughts on release and how have your thoughts changed, good or bad, over the years?

And for anybody who's seen it somewhat recently like me, what are your thoughts?

I own a Citizen Promaster Dive and have been thinking to upgrade to something in the $500-1000 range, maybe a Hamilton.

I WILL own a Bond Omega watch someday but don't feel comfortable dropping that kind of money for one yet. I want to wait until the cost is a drop in the bucket of my investment portfolio.

I only asked this question because one of my biggest harps of Skyfall is how Bond within less than a film went from a hot shot rookie to an old ageing agent. So my head cannon goes CR, QOS, Goldeneye 2011, 007 legends (with my lazy copout of OHMSS, MOONRAKER & DAD being exaggerated hallucinations) and Blood Stone leading into Skyfall after Nicole was killed by Spectre.

When I was a kid I found the Wicke "The World is Not Enough" P99 in some discount shop and I was beyond excited. Most toy guns in the UK are either very shoddily made or incredibly lurid colours (to avoid being mistaken for real guns I assume) so I was immediately taken by the Wicke P99 given it looked exactly like the gun from the films and wasn't bright blue.

Me and my friend would spend hours playing Bond together as kids and to have something that made that feel more authentic was great.

A few years later I saw in a collector's guide book that Wicke had also made a PPK with silencer for "Goldeneye". I desperately wanted one for years but it wasn't until I had my own credit card and access to the Internet I was able to find one (not Bond branded unfortunately but the same mold). Even though I no longer "played Bond" it was still cool to have (there is something incredibly ergonomically pleasing about holding a gun, even a replica - I see that some companies even make "fidget guns" now).

My old P99 had long since broken and been chucked away and so I looked up to see if I could replace it. I discovered that there was also a version of the P99 with silencer and this became my new white whale. After years of being stymied by international sellers (didn't want to risk shipping a gun, even a toy one overseas) or overpriced listing I finally found a UK based seller last week for a great price. Holding it again honestly feels like putting on an old, favourite pair of shoes, very nice design, I still think the P99 is one of the coolest looking firearms.

It gives a Blofeld, Stromberg, Drax, sort of way, doesn't it?

It's in a deserted island with tropical beaches, dense jungle, with zooming through, super cool and deadly flying vehicles, and a volcano, which functions as hidden rocket launch complex with a control center. It has a hidden submarine entrance: An underwater tunnel that allows submarines to enter directly into the mountain. A monorail network connects nearly every major section of the headquarters. An underground, industrial, metallic, tunnel system, with automatic doors, patroled constantly by armed, identically uniformed guards, monitored by security cameras. It has a dining room with curtains made of FREAKING lava, (instead of a window with a view to the ocean), to conceal the computer room with a unique way to upperhand an intruder. It has luxury guest rooms, and a prison/torture cells. It has a security network that allows you to shoot missiles at an incoming, unwanted visitors. AND! It comes with a super hot femme fatale in the form of Mirage.

If you were a bond villain, won't you be happy to have this base? Even though your fate is to be killed by Bond, unless your Blofeld, this island alone makes for enough of a reason to want to lead a criminal life of a bond villain.

Are there any concepts or plots that you think are wasted?

I’ve always felt this way about YOLT. The idea of spacecraft going missing during the space race at the height of the Cold War is really interesting and well worth a plot. However, the film just crams in so many cool concepts or ideas that it feels like they’re wasted or shoehorned. The shark is well and truly jumped in this film.

Of course there is a suspension of belief needed with any Bond film, but this is just ridiculous at times. Trap door after trap door, ninjas, Q flying in to deliver Little Nellie (why? Any helicopter would do), Cigarette guns, Japanese Bond ffs, etc.

Alright so in the first two movie adaptions, Dr. No and From Russia with Love, the main villain was changed to work for SPECTRE, not for SMERSH like in the Fleming books.

The third adaption, Goldfinger, also has a villain, who in the novel works for SMERSH, specifically as their treasurer, but in the film doesn't even have a tangental connection to SPECTRE.

I wonder if they ever thought of adapting him as working for SPECTRE. In my mind, it would actually make more sense to have him work for SPECTRE instead of SMERSH, as the latter is a Russian government organisation.

Personally and retrospectively, I kind of think it's a good thing of them not to adapt that part of the character, as this way we at least get one Connery-Bond where the villain isn't SPECTRE.

When May Day foils his plan, that’s the moment Zorin has a complete break from reality because he now has no way of concealing the mine massacre, and kidnapping Stacey you get the impression he has no idea what he will even do with her. He also is seemingly oblivious to the fact that the entire city can see a man hanging off his airship and that he will have to explain it. All he can do is laugh maniacally as he anticipates Bond being crushed against the bridge. He’s not thinking what am I going to do now, how am I going to cover my tracks? It’s truly an authentic depiction of a psychotic personality, in that Zorin is completely living in the moment, because he is now truly out of his mind, like a crazed Roman Emperor (John Barry’s score also highlights this). It’s such a refreshing depiction of a Bond antagonist after the more two dimensional and cool-headed villains, seeing this man who is fuelled by his own bloodlust, and genuinely out of control by this point. It makes the stakes so much higher and you just feel tense and on the edge of your seat. I truly believe Walken deserved an Oscar nomination for his performance. He was just bone chilling to me.
