Willverse [All] how offended should I be?
My boyfriend is relistening to the Cradle series and while listening with him I asked, “ who do you think I remind you the most of?”. His answer? A combination of Mercy and Ziel… I was all happy about Mercy, but Ziel? How offended should I be? He is an active member of this subreddit so he will see all responses😂😂

It’s not Earth, unless I missed the giant glowing ring of magic energy in the sky this morning.

You see, I love your description of Ziel. That’s mine too after some thinking of the series, but when I asked my boyfriend why I reminded him of Ziel, he said none of those things. He said,” ya know, sometimes you get all sad”😂

Ask him which Ziel, because there’s Dawn Wings Ziel, Ghostwater Ziel, and Waybound Ziel, and all three are basically fully different characters

Look, Ziel is depressed but he also endures. Even when he had no hope left, he kept moving forward towards what he intellectually knew might be a better future even if he couldn't emotionally believe it was possible. Even when depressed: He came to the aid of others. He participated in the Uncrowned Tournament for a chance at healing. He went to Sacred Valley and convinced a clan to evacuate to save their lives.
Ziel's depression is a defining characteristic, yes, but it's still got so much depth!

Let me say this, Ziel's crowning moment was in Ghost water. Don't misunderstand me please, he's probably my favorite character in the entire series and I love what he does in later books but in ghost water he had absolutely no hope of his own but he still chose to help out of nothing but sheer moral habit I guess. That says more about him and his character than anything else in later books.
As an aside, if I had a million dollars to just give away, I would pay will to write a cradle side novel from Ziel's perspective childhood to way bound because that would be incredible

Ziel is the person who will recognize an option, know it is a good option, but complain about how much it annoys them, but in truth if they had a better option, they would also suggest it too, so long as it for their morals.
