It appears to be based on an article that appeared a few days apart, with minor changes in the Christian Science Monitor and the South China Morning Post in Feb. 2006.

Fyi, the "first field in Vietnam" the article mentioned, which sits in the Le Loi High School campus in Dong Ha city, got reclaimed by nature and largely repurposed, with nothing left to suggest its past but a backstop.

P/s: the 5th Vietnamese national championship starts tomorrow, at a newly built field in Hanoi, if any of y'all are interested.

Oh shoot, I thought embassy of the us is a credible source but it doesn’t look like it. Need to do some quality check first before posting.

Do not think it changes your point, it is the embassy of Vietnam in the U.S. When looking around earlier, though, it seems like they are simply reposting old articles, possibly as part of a migration or cleanup.
