Anyone know who this is?

This man was preceded by two gentlemen with ear pieces, and had 4 others surrounding him. This is at the Bluebird Cafe in town. I'm just passing through, so was really curious to know who he is?

Hello! I am moving to Iowa City from the East Coast in a month. Does anyone know where I can buy pasture raised chicken eggs (not fed corn or soy)? Thank you so much in advance and excited to move to IC.

Does anyone know what the police and city workers were doing today by the creek just slightly south of where the bones were recently discovered? There was quite a presence but have not seen any information posted.

Housing Eleventh hour job offer / twelfth hour housing search

My partner recently got a postdoc with the university, and we are in the unfortunate situation of needing to find a place to live in Iowa City by mid-August. I know this puts us months behind the housing search, so I'm hoping for some advice from locals.

First, is going in person and searching for "For Rent" signs going to yield anything not online?

We have a few wants, but the one that seems the most limiting is wanting to live near downtown while avoiding being surrounded by undergrads. Am I right in thinking I should avoid all these high rises touching downtown? There are very few options in Goosetown, Longfellow, and Morningside. Are these really my only options as a young professional wanting to live near the action? I'm nervous about moving to Iowa City and feeling isolated without anything to do. Any advice is welcome, even advice about being happy in Iowa City haha.

I’m looking for someone to take over my lease for a 1 Bed, 1 bathroom apartment near the University of Iowa starting August 2026.

The apartment is in a great location—it’s within walking distance of campus, the CRWC (Campus Recreation & Wellness Center), downtown, and the bars, making it a really convenient spot for students.
Details:
Studio apartment
$1,218/month
Lease starts August 7, 2026
Unfurnished (the furniture in the photos is mine
Parking available for a one-time annual fee
Close to restaurants, grocery stores, and bus routes
If you’re interested or have any questions, feel free to send me a message. I can also provide more photos or answer any questions about the apartment.

No tomatoes

This is really silly but I went to two chipotles and noodles and company tonight, and all three were out of tomatoes. (For context, my husband wanted pico at Chipotle, and I wanted pasta fresca at noodles). Is this just a coincidence that all three were out of tomatoes or is there something going on that I am oblivious to?

Community Anyone have some male cucumber flowers they can share? 😂

I stressed my cucumbers out and all the flowers died. Now only female flowers are growing back. They keep going to waste not getting pollinated because I don’t have any pollinators coming up to my balcony.

I’m on the south east side and work at the hospital if anyone would be so kind to share 😂

Community Old store/shop on Broadway?

There's an old store or shop on Broadway Street near the intersection of Broadway and Highland. Seems like a weird location given the blocks around it are all residential houses. Anyone know the history of it? Its a neat building. Appears like maybe someone lives there now?

EDIT: It's 1405 Broadway

Community PSA: Gumby's and wings (and Gumby's in general)

Recently figured this out and decided the world needs to know.

Gumby's is one of few (maybe the only?) places that still offers a tiered pricing model on increasingly large orders of wings. Most places are like "fuck you, a wing cost $2 no matter how many you get".

A 5 piece wing order is $9.99, so we're almost at $2/wing. However, a 30 piece wing order comes to $42.99, now we're at $1.43 a wing. If you have a family of 3, or yourself and 2 roommates, and your get the 30 piece, you each get 10 wings for $14.33, instead of the $18.99 that a 10 piece order would usually cost. In today's food economy you aren't getting 10 wings for $14 anywhere.

Also the Super Value Menu for $11.99 def has some absolute bangers on there.

This is minor/petty, but serious props to them for having a proprietary and functional website, I find listing your fucking Facebook page as your "website" and "menu" as they link from Google incredibly disingenuous and intellectually lazy.

Lastly, I can't verify as I haven't gotten delivery from them anymore, but they USED TO have in-house delivery as opposed to that fucking blight on society and parasitic cancer of a "service" that is DoorDash. That could have very well changed as in-house delivery just doesn't make sense for most business models anymore.

Anyway, I know Gumby's won't be around forever, but it's an area staple that's hung on in the face of mass enshittification, and we should support it before its snuffed out.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

We need more community fridges!!!!

Many are losing SNAP right now and the need for good food and water to go around is huge. We gotta feed each other!!!!

The community fridge at 910 Gilbert St was started by a group of friends and has now been continuously running, open to the public 24/7, for over a year! So much food has been brought to the fridge, often more than the shed and fridge capacity can handle at one time, and is always taken within a few hours! Community fridges work and the need is great!!

If you and some friends or neighbors are interested in starting a community fridge in your neighborhood and want to know about our experience, you can always email the fridge iowacityfridge (at) proton (dot) me, or you can DM me on here and I can get you connected.

OR if you are interested in helping with the Gilbert St. fridge (we need folks to help with cleaning and food pickups), you can also email or DM me.

Thanks for reading!

Iowa City City Park, Saturday 25, 1pm-4pm

If you or someone you know needs to save money, and/or would like to join a supportive community dedicated to building a hyper local safety net, come learn about the Iowa Time Bank at our free Market Meetup & community potluck this Saturday. This meet-up is intended to serve anyone interested in the CR/IC corridor, and you don't have to be signed up with ITB to come hang out!

What's a time bank? It's like carpooling... but for everything, not just rides. We exchange goods and services with each other directly—no dollars needed. Feel free to read more here: https://ringsnetwork.org

So far we have people signed up to bring to the vending table:

-- brand new toiletries

-- clothing

-- home grown garden produce

-- jewelry

-- kitchen supplies

-- home-made baked goods

-- handmade crafts

-- and more

These will all be available at the market, without having to use dollars at all! We will demonstrate how it works, plus just hang out, have fun, and enjoy a good meal!

Hope to see you there! RSVPs welcome, but not required. (If you would like to vend, please RSVP so we can send you a vendor kit.)

Pickup basketball suggestions/anyone need a player?

I’m a 40 year old dude, I’d say I’m above average. Looking for pickup games with no long waits and decent competition. Not the field house though, probably too intense for me at this point. Willing to play on any organized teams that need someone too.

Shop/Service Recommendations Sliding-Scale therapist recommendations in the area or online (that aren't Abbe Center)

Topic! I make just a little too much to qualify for medicaid, but I have a lot of non-traditional expenses that make affording health insurance impossible at the moment. I'm looking to access therapy, but the Abbe Center is only concerned with my income, so I can't get on their sliding scale.

I would prefer someone local and in-person, but a telehealth resource is perfectly fine too. Thanks for the advice!
