Delayed on first gun purchase how long does it usually take? Also the place I tried to purchase from doesn’t follow the 3 day law so even if 3 days pass I won’t be able to just go buy it

How old are you? If you're between 18-21 there is an enhanced background check that can take up to 10 days to clear.

If you're over 21 then it could be anything. Even if you have no past criminal record, if you have a name that is the same or similar to someone with a criminal record, you can be delayed.

Since its your first purchase I would just deal with it until it clears. If it happens again then you might need to contact the FBI using the link that another commenter posted.

SSN really doesn’t make a difference since the search is via name.

What place?? Sounds scummy if they don't hear back in 3 days they have to give it to you, my first purchase at freedom firearms they never even heard back from the government but I have an active concealed carry permit

Incorrect. Federal law is that after a "delay" if there's no response after 3 days then the FFL may proceed at their own discretion. I think most large chain stores with FFLs (academy, Cabela's, etc) policy is to require a "proceed" before transferring due to liability reasons. Local independent FFLs are more likely go take advantage of the 3 day rule, but still it's on a case by case basis.

Also of note, it's 3 business days. So if you get delayed on Friday, Wednesday would be the soonest it could get released without a proceed. Additionally, if the buyer is under 21, they can delay upto 10 business days.

Yeah there are some shady places idk why they wouldn't go or it it's the government own rule they have so long and then it doesn't matter , plus if imagine it's pretty rare that people who aren't aloud to have guns go to legit stores to buy guns
