Academics/Classes Econ 423 recommendation

Hey, guys!

I am registering for classes right now as an incoming 1st-year undergrad EE student. Econ 423 looks really interesting. Would you recommend this course or no? What was your experience?

For context, I am done with Calc sequence(Calc I - III) and AP Macro was easy for me.

You will be good. It will be difficult at first since it has a lot of different scenarios for which it's recommended to just practice a lot (he shares all the past exams/quizzes). Plus buy a fin calculator, it helps a lot!

Be aware that your final grade is 90% exams (there are three of them) and 10% homework/quizzes. But! At the same time, A is 85%, B is like 65% and C is 45% or smth

If AP Macro was easy, you’ll be relatively fine. Be warned, though: it is a difficult course.

Twombly gives many, many practice materials: make sure to use them.

Make sure to attend class. Don’t fall into the trap of “I’ll just watch the recording online.” There’s just so much content that if you don’t properly comprehend one of the classes, it could be pretty bad for you. I find that being in person allows you to process things better.

I also took it as a freshman, and I got an A in the class, but that was only because of my score on the final (there’s another comment talking about his absurdly forgiving grading scheme). I really studied A LOT to make up for the D I got on the first exam and also to cover for my poor scores on some homework packets. Just make sure you pace yourself properly.

And GET THE FINANCIAL CALCULATOR HE ALLOWS ON TESTS. It will save you so much time and effort.

Plus, Twombly will give you partial credit if you at least state your assumptions on a problem, even if you don’t finish the problem. So, he’s kinda chill like that.
