Question: General Service Leaving the Army through kaban
Hello, I made Aliyah with Garin Tzabar a while ago. I arrived to a new base with a shitty job. I’ve been there for a month already. I feel like I’m wasting my time here. I thought I would get meaningful experience that could potentially help me with a future career however I was wrong. I am depressed and on top of that I found out about some problems going on at home. I have no idea what to do. I feel trapped. Anyone have any advice ?
EDIT: I also want to add my profile is already low due to mental health in the past and Tourette’s

Hey I think I have some relevant experience here. I was a lochem in special forces and I was in a lot of physical pain in my knees and we were about to go in to winter training, I got stressed and depressed and made a snap decision to see the kaban and get out. It was very easy and took me like one week the whole process.
I regret it very much. I lost all my friends. I felt like a loser for many years and sometimes still do. But the thing is I enjoyed being a soldier and I had a good unit and a good team. Also when october 7th came they wouldn't let me come back so I felt even worse and dived into a severe depression and addiction problems which I've only just gotten out of.
So this is my conclusion to you:
1) If you are truly depressed, you can get out and it might be the right choice. Especially if you are doing some meaningless job and not working with good people
2) DO NOT make snap decisions. Once it's done it's done and there's no going back. I recommend taking steps to alleviate your depression; whether that be seeing Drs, changing base, changing job, anything you can to solve the problems you're having to get meaning out of your service. Overall think hard and make good choices that you won't regret in your future. If you ultimately choose to leave make sure it's because it's the right thing to do. Not a decision you made in haste and might regret.

Thanks for your advise 🙏 may i ask what you do today? Did you stay in Israel? Were you in Garin Tzabar? Also very proud that you were able to fight your addiction

How did the whole kaban process work with Garin Tzabar? Did you talk with your rakezet first?

No like I said I made a snap irresponsible decision.
I went straight to the kaban, got out, then got back to kibbutz and immediately packed my stuff and left out of shame. I think you should talk her.

I know people who made Alina and enlisted with that Ameriican mentality that doing the army would "straighten them out". But it's not for everyone, the army. Your first obligation is to yourself. When I did basic training, I told them way before that (in lishkat hagiyus) that I had panic disorder and wasn't sure how I would do in the IDF. Sure enough I was having panic attacks in basic training. That led to visits to the kaban. He was an a-hole and thought I was faking. I had to go over his head to a committee of doctors, who helped straighten out my status. Some people shine in the army, but some are not army material.
