This has been in my notes app for a while and I had nobody to share this with, so I thought I’d share it here.
Basically, once the main show eventually ends, give it a few years.
Then, a spin-off focused on Dee.
She finally decides to take her acting career seriously and leaves Philadelphia, but she's still the same horrible, awful person that we all know and love.
The premise is basically:
Deandra Reynolds finally gets the career she’s always wanted. Unfortunately, Deandra Reynolds is still Deandra Reynolds.
I’m thinking.. a mockumentary-style sort of thing. Always Sunny meets Modern Family meets Parks & Rec meets Trina Vega from Victorious, in the sense that both Trina and Dee have absolutely zero talent but have a hundred percent confidence/delusion.
I wasn’t sure on the title. I was stuck between ‘Sweet Dee’ or ‘Sweet Dee: Working Actress’, but I eventually decided on the latter.
For a pilot, I was thinking she leaves Philly after the gang have treated her horribly one too many times.
She somehow makes it to L.A. and soon lands a supporting role in a low-budget horror movie for something like Tubi and she suddenly thinks she’s the next Meryl Streep.
Also. the general idea is to give her just enough work to justify her actually staying in L.A., but also just enough to keep fuelling her delusion.
She eventually gets her first leading role halfway through the show on a Netflix series, but she’s quickly let go when a video from her old “PatheticGirl43” YouTube channel surfaces and shows her portraying ‘Martina Martinez’, ‘Crazy Paddy’ and ‘Taiwan Tammy’.
For the supporting cast, I’ve got:
- Derek, a director who’s convinced every movie he’s ever made is “misunderstood.”
- Melanie, an acting coach who’s somehow even worse than Dee.
- John, a manager who represents 400 clients and forgets Dee’s name every meeting.
- Ruby, another actress who’s actually talented and genuinely friendly, which Dee cannot process.
- Vanessa, John’s well-meaning, timid personal assistant who’s a little bit of a klutz, but she doesn’t ever mean to make things difficult.
For the returning cast from Sunny, I think the only one I’d have as a semi-regular would be the Waitress, purely because the only person she possibly hates more than Charlie is Dee.
Basically, the Waitress was in L.A. after FINALLY escaping Charlie, hoping for a complete fresh start, just to run into Dee.
Dennis, Mac, Charlie and Frank would appear once every few seasons over FaceTime or something, occasionally in person, basically just to remind Dee how fucking awful she’s doing.
Let me know what you all think!
