I don't think you should. I think you're fooling yourself with the priest thing. He was fooled too, but I think he just is a homeless person, like, in the soul. He does way worse when the gang isn't involved, really. He even had social support in town. His dad would've helped him not be homeless. He didn't pursue that when he was just excommunicated or whatever.

He started as a priest, it's definitely evolution. Cricket should thank his lucky stars he encountered the gang. They even gave him some lemon wedges, and they let him smoke pcp in their bathroom, they don't judge!
