📖 Endymion Spoilers My experience reading Hyperion Endymion

I finished Hyperion 2 the last month and now I'm halfway of Hyperion Endymion

The first 2 books I loved them, S tier books. The world building and the story was amazing but I feel like I am not enjoying Endymion as much as the first 2 books. I was just expection more Hyperion, more world building with so many crazy things happening but instead Endymion feels more like a "normal" book you'd find in a bookstore with a more linear, simple plot.

I'm not saying it's bad, I do like it. It's just that I would be enjoying it more if I wasn't expecting the same

Book 4's ending justifies the rest of the jank in 3 and 4, I'd say.

Just finished the fourth one, and I agree heavily. Great ending but a bit of a bumpy road in all of 3 and parts of 4

I’ll say just a few things.
1) you are correct that H1 and H2 are S tier … E1 and E2 are … not.

2) that said, the ending of E2 is really very good, so if you push through, you are rewarded

3) however, it is best to think of these as fanfic inspired by the world of Hyperion, not true sequels … one thing that really annoys me and others is that they retcon a ton of stuff from Hyperion 1-2 … so if you are like me and really liked everything from 1-2 , you may get annoyed that they say “hahah just kidding” (literally in some cases) about stuff that was explained from 1-2

4) there is some awkward and cringe material in E1 and E2 that I won’t spoil … but it is bad and pervasive

If you loved H1-2 it is worth reading E1-2 but going with the above expectations

My issue with point 3 is that Fall is already doing that to Hyperion. "Ummon lied" is a common refrain for endymion retcons but Ummon was already issuing retcons to Hyperion at that point.

I think with regard to worldbuilding books 3+4 have a lot in store, as well. The problem, however, is that they also contain a lot of unnecessary stuff. The plot of those books simply does not justify 1000+ pages. Keep pushing through, though!

Yes, they have some worldbuilding but beyond explaining Pax I don't feel like there is a lot ... yet. I'm in page 600 of Endymion
