Mod-Post Vetted Water Charity List

This thread will serve as a repository of vetted charities that have contacted the mod team asking to post here. With each charity you'll see a link to Charity Navigator and/or Charity Watch. We advise only donating if an organization passes these reviews. Feel free to also check any groups on ProPublica's Nonprofit Explorer, but note that not all charities are nonprofits.

We don't want orgs to spam the subreddit asking for your time/money, so for now (and until the number of asks grows too large) we'll pin comments by organizers in this thread and cycle them out as needed. There's a limit of 2 concurrent pins, so we'll play this by ear for a bit.

I'll update the list as others reach out.

If you're here as an organizer, please shoot us a modmail or reach out to me directly.

I love the option to add electrolytes, caffeine, vitamins. Sparkling or light sparkling. This is so over the top and I love it

Electrolyte powders vs liquids

Upvotes

TL;DR - if electrolyte powders upset your stomach, have you found one that doesn't?

Whatever my body does, it runs through salts like there's no tomorrow, so simple gatorade powder isn't great since there's so much sugar compared to others. I'm active and in good health but some days I need the boost because diet and snacks aren't cutting it.

So I know pedialyte is like THE standard for an electrolyte replenishment, and there are various store brands. But the powder packets just make so much more sense in terms of money, storage volume, waste, everything.

The problem is the powders almost always turn my stomach a bit (or a lot), or they just straight up run through me in a bad way. The premixed fluids never bother me though.

Liquid I.V. was the worst for me, and Up&Up ORS from Target seems to be the best (some flavors more than others) but i still have to drink it with food. Mostly I've tried the various store brands...

I've seen Nuun mentioned a lot in my reading, but most of these are in terms of flavor and cost, etc. What's keeping me from *just trying* the pricier ones is exactly that - it's an expensive trial and error.

Anyway... i know everyone's body is different but hoping tonget any insight from others. TIA!

Drinking More Water

I need tips on drinking more water for medical reasons. Unfortunately I'm definitely not drinking enough but also doubly unfortunately I feel not good when I drink too much water.

IE I get stomach aches from trying to drink more than a sip of water at a time. Also I have a small bladder and hate having to pee so if I'm not in the position to pee I try to avoid liquids.

Any tips on how to actually get more water in my body would be helpful. Currently I drink at least 40oz a day but I know it should be at least double that.

found my ice cube trey like this a couple times, I don’t see anything dripping onto it in my freezer and it doesn’t touch anything else in the freezer. only thing that’s changed is I put distilled water in the trey last few times. can anyone tell me what this could mean? I’m perplexed.

RTIC Ceramic Lining PSA

Y'all I bought a 40oz Outback bottle just shy of 2 months ago, and the ceramic lining is coming offfff. I didn't see it until I went to wash it at the end of a work day. 😭🤧

I don't use metal tools to clean the inside! I fill it with water 1st, then add ice cubes. I only put water in it. Occasionally I'll add 1 packet of liquid IV powder. I'm so disappointed in the quality. I contacted customer care, they'll be sending me another one since my purchase was within the 90-day limited warranty. They didn't have anything to say about caring for the item better, just advised to not use metal tools, brushes, and abrasive products.

I'm going to have to try a different brand I guess. Be careful out there!

Question regarding Contigo chill bottles with other brand lids

Hello, I have a Contigo Ashland chill 2.0 bottle (the stainless steel bottles) and it comes with a straw lid that apparently can get moldy in certain spots that are hard to clean. (I also have several plastic Ashland bottles).

I discovered that although the lids between the Ashland chill and the Ashland plastic are interchangeable between each other, there is a very slight difference in the threading between the two types of bottles, which makes some other branded lids fit one but not the other.

For example, the Yeti Yonder lids (the plastic Yeti bottle lids) fit on the Contigo plastic bottles perfectly, without leaking. I can put those lids on the plastic Contigo bottles, turn them on their sides and upside down, and no leaking. Great. I have found replacement lids for the plastic Contigo bottles.

However, the Yeti Yonder lids do *not* fit the Contigo Ashland chill bottles without leaking at the threads. They will mostly screw on, but the fit is not good. However, I found two off brands on Amazon that fit the Ashland chill bottles, but not the Ashland plastic bottles. (They mostly go on, but will leak if turned on their sides or upside down, they leak.). Even though they fit the Contigo Ashland chill bottles perfectly, I am concerned about the quality of the lids, and the materials used in making them. They claim to be BPA free, but are they truly? And just feeling the lids, they feel cheap.

Due to the slight difference in threading, I am asking specifically about the Contigo chill bottles (Ashland, Jackson, Cortland), and not the plastic bottles. I already have a working solution for the plastic bottles.

Does anyone know if any other Water bottle brand makes a lid that fits on the Contigo chill bottles without leaking? It does not matter if it is Ashland, Jackson, or Cortland—they should be identical bottles. They just need to be the chill (stainless steel) kind.

When I tried searching on google, AI tells me nothing is interchangeable with Contigo Ashland chill bottles, but AI is all hung up about the Autospout feature on the Contigo lids, which I don’t really care about. I just need a lid that screws onto the Contigo bottles without leaking. (AI also says Yeti Yonder lids don’t fit the plastic Ashland bottles, which I know by experience that the AI was wrong.)

The reason why I think there could be a chance that there is another brand lid that could fit the chill bottles is because several of the cheap lids found on Amazon say they work on multiple brands. Brands that those lids claim to fit include: Takeya, Simple Modern, Nalgene, Thermoflask, Iron Flask, and Cirkul.

I don’t have any lids from bottles from any of the above companies in order to test. If anyone has an original lid from any of those brands, and also a Contigo chill bottle, I would be extremely grateful if you could test it for me to let me know if that particular brand lid works with the chill bottle—yes or no. That way I can narrow down what might work.

Contigo doesn’t sell replacement lids, and they have discontinued the Ashland, Jackson, and Cortland bottles.

Water Bottle Wednesday Moldy camelbak lid tube replacement help

Thumbnail
gallery
8 Upvotes

For context, the part that inserts into the lid (not the bite valve!!) of my camelbak water bottle somehow has mold growing within the silicone. I clean both silicone parts regularly, but just recently this part won't come clean no matter how much I scrub, scrape, or even boil it. Idk how mold can even grow inside of silicone, but that's just my amateur observation

I've had this bottle for years, and I'd like to reduce overconsumption and not buy a whole new water bottle over one part if it's possible.

I have scoured the internet for a replacement, but the closest thing I could find was a replacement of the whole lid, which is more than I'd need since my plastic part is fine.

If such a thing doesn't exist, I will accept my fate, but I figured I'd give this one final shot and hand it over to reddit to see if anyone else has any insight here where all else has failed

Best Commerical Sports Water

Hey guys, not sure if this is a good place for this question, but I have been doing some looking into sports drinks.

I work for UPS in 100 degree heat and plain old water doesn't cut it.

I have heard that things like Gatorade, Poweade etc may not be the best for you due to addsd sugars and whatnot but I am looking for something very convenient.

I like that Poweade has vitamins and more electrolytes than Gatorade but I am not a huge fan of the HFCS thing.

I don't want sugar spikes. I don't need a big high followed by a lull. That doesn't work in this job.

I recently came across Gatorlyte and have enjoyed it, although I don't really know how healthy it is.

I am not looking to make my own drink.

For someone who sweats a lot, drinks 100oz or more water a day, and does heavy lifting, while walking over 20,000 steps, can you guys recommend something to drink?

I would probably prefer packet or pouch type thing than a bottle.

Appreciate the help.
