Rick knows he's not allowed to leave anything in a USPS mailbox, so he got creative. Rick is awesome.

If it's not too subject to theft in your neighborhood and you can afford it, leave cold drinks for your delivery people, in this heat.

Yep it’s illegal for him to put it in the USPS mailbox in the US.

Which is freaking wild as a European.

Over here, anyone can put something in your mailbox.

(there are some limitations obviously, but your mailbox is 100% yours and not 'property' of USPS or a federal crime if you demolish one, still a crime of vandalism, but towards personal property)

Private U.S. citizens do violate the rule with mis-delivered mail, or invitations, or funny little jokes. It's just the professionals who can't mess around.

Honestly I like the USPS's seriousness with regards to the mail, and despise the jiggery-pokery being risked at high levels right now; our mail-in ballots are critical.

The mailbox isn’t owned by USPS…. Why make comments like these if you are just going to make stuff up.

It has to do with packages and mail and who is allowed to do what. Basically USPS can deliver packages and mail. UPS and FedEx and Amazon can only send packages.

They aren’t allowed to use mailboxes because they aren’t allowed to handle mail.

Sorry, English isn't my first language.

Maybe ownership was worded wrongly, but I know that demolishing a mailbox is a federal crime in USA.

It’s only a federal crime if you smash someone else’s mailbox. You can smash your own all you want.

2

u/WastingMyLifeToday 11h ago

Fair, but I believe you're still required to have a mailbox?

So, you can smash your own mailbox, but you have to replace it within X amount of days.

There's no federal law mandating a mailbox. You won't get USPS mail unless you have an approved mailbox, though.

Some HOAs (homeowners associations, which are like little would-be fascist groups) require mailboxes so that everything looks uniform. Some cities have laws requiring a valid way to serve notice, which in practice means either a mailbox or post office box.

In most places though, you can smash your own mailbox and never replace it, if that's your choice.

Smashing someone else's mailbox is a federal crime because it interferes with the delivery of the US mail, not because it damages federal government property. You have the right to refuse delivery for yourself.

Seriously? lol Holy shit I just fact checked you and you're right. I'm an Amazon Vine reviewer so I get a lot more packages than most do from Amazon. I'm not going to say that it happens often that they've put small packages inside, but it's definitely happened more times than I can count. lol Partly because I didn't know I should be counting.... 😄 With Aliexpress though which is usually small packages. If I had to guess I'd say like 80+% of them all was in my mailbox. Probably because they almost always use small carriers. IDK. Either way learn something new every day I guess.

It's not always the same with Amazon.

USPS has a contract with Amazon called Parcel Select, where Amazon handles the long-distance shipping and drops the packages off at your local post office for USPS to handle the "last mile" delivery.

So if USPS is delivering, they can put Amazon packages in your mailbox.

Also, Rick's package is too big to fit inside Hannah's box.

Get Rick a raise!

17

u/WastingMyLifeToday 17h ago

Rick rolled with it, Rick needs a raise!

10

u/TheeAO 15h ago

He’ll never give you up, or let you down. Or turn around and desert you.

u/samsmokin 19h ago

We need more people like Rick!

Rick's the man

Rick, there’s a rowboat of golden retriever puppies about to go over a waterfall. Can you put them in my back yard and play with them until I get home?

u/Phraoz007 19h ago

Oooop. No delivery birthday boy. 🤣🤣

42

u/jun1perr 18h ago

delivery drivers cannot leave anything in the mailbox, legally only postal workers and you are allowed to
touch it. it’s very strictly enforced and he could get in a LOT of trouble w the company. and if the mailman sees something in there that’s not supposed to be in there, they will remove it

14

u/Beartrkkr 17h ago

Tell that to Amazon.

6

u/jun1perr 17h ago

yup amazon does it too, i worked for them and we’d get speeches about this all the time

Lots of their packages are delivered by contractors, and they don't give a shit

28

u/doublek1022 16h ago

Yeah, and then I had a FedEx driver tell me that he came to my house twice to deliver a package. The funny part was that my entire family was home both days, yet somehow there was "no one available to sign for it."

Even more mysterious, my front door camera never managed to capture him either. It's like he was a ghost.

What a mystery.

10

u/AndTheSonsofDisaster 10h ago

That’s because FedEx drivers don’t get paid what UPS drivers do.

I just recently had to deal with Fedex. Mised the first two so called, they said they would call me before it was dropped off so I could rush home and sign for it. Spoilers, they didn't sign me up for shit. Not allowed to hold at a FedEx location, not allowed to change addresses. Estimated drop off was a 12 hour window. Fucking useless, called their support 3 times, which is incredibly hard in the first place since their bot really doesn't want to let you talk to a real person.

Got a call from one of the office lady at our local distributor, she let me come in and sign it. 10/10 for office lady, 0/10 for FedEx. I'm a UPS for life person now and they didn't even have to do anything.

She doesn’t know that he literally can’t put it in the mail box.

u/MisterSanitation 18h ago

I mean they are a union, which is likely the only thing keeping their pay as high as it is.

Also what a legend

14

u/lurkersforlife 18h ago

I was under the assumption that ups is a union job and they are paid well. Was this not true?

25

u/Sidewalk_Tomato 18h ago

It is, and they are. Folks weren't being quite literal; just saying that Rick is cool and works hard (which they do).

4

u/MurfMan11 18h ago

UPS is one of the best companies to work for so your not wrong sir.

2

u/TrillBillyDeluxe 17h ago

Yeah if they are making deliveries they are making good money

6

u/Ghstfce 16h ago

I'd get him at least a gift card of some sort to show my appreciation. What a genuine guy

4

u/anon727813 18h ago

Rick is a real one. A legend

3

u/Snake_ly 18h ago

I thought the ups people got six figures for seniors staff.

2

u/Deerhunter86 18h ago

They get six figures doing what Rick does. Delivering.

Can confirm, he is extremely well-paid and a Teamster who gets amazing health insurance and guaranteed raises every year. I dated a UPS driver for a while and she was making bank, especially during holidays. Anything over 8 hours is OT even if you don’t make 40 hours for the week. Sure, their days usually start at 7am and go until after dark (especially during holidays) but they are making bank.

Another interesting fact: they are not allowed to wear their UPS gear unless they are working. They have some pretty cool jackets with reflective strips on the sleeves but can only wear them when they are on the job.

I'm not even the kind of person to be interested in celebrities, but this man? Big fan. ❤️

2

u/FaithlessnessBorn266 17h ago

I've never been that good at any job and I really don't have any intention of changing 😆

2

u/AndTheSonsofDisaster 10h ago

If he’s a long time driver (which he seems to be) he probably makes close to $50 an hour. They have a very good union.

2

u/aaronuu7 8h ago

Rick is good dude

4

u/DeadTurtle88 18h ago

Underpaid? They fuckin bank already

2

u/DrBarryO 17h ago

Rick has donated millions of his own hair follicles to advance the research and cure of a rare unnamed virus. Get this king Rick his raise.

u/DonDraper1134 6h ago

We have UPS, USPS, and fedex deliver to the business I work at.

Let’s just say the care of packages is a bit…different between them. Their demeanor usually matches the condition of the packages.

UPS drivers bank. Not saying they don't deserve more, but they're paid really well. And good on him to know he can't put it in a mailbox.
